  1. Pretty decent meeting and as Gunner says not a bad turnout for a NL meeting. Having watched today's proceedings, a few things are pretty obvious: a. Neither of these two teams is good enough to win a championship b. Ben Woodhull is showing quite a lot of promise and a good dollop of character. c. Kean Dicken was not quite as slow as I thought he would be but he can only get better......hopefully. d. Jack Smith and Kyle Bickley showed quite a lot of class today e. When you see Jon Armstrong you are never sure if he has just sneaked out the back of the pits for another crafty fag or whether the smoke is coming from yet another of his blown up motors. f. Belle Vue certainly make an effort to put on a decent event for the punters and they should be applauded for their efforts. Apart from that, nothing to report really.
  2. Apparently, the press and practice day has been postponed and the Pride of the Potteries has also bitten the dust. Not a hugely encouraging start by the Gloomy Roadsters. Still look on the bright side.........things can only get better.
  3. I had tipped the office wallahs off that you were coming up the cobbled motorway from the Mudlands and suggested that since you were a known trouble-maker that you should be put in isolation in the south stand. We'll give you a cheery wave from the heated seats in the luxurious main stand, Have a great meeting!
  4. So where do I find the schedule of what's on where? Thanks
  5. You need to change your handle to Islander22 then matey.
  6. Forget this question! I have sorted and now watching all kinds of Polish cods wallop. Excellent!
  7. Am I able to watch this on my laptop if I buy one of those voucher things off Fleabay? Would I need to download additional software? Thanks
  8. Woz, will you be bringing any other Coventry supporters or are you Johnny No Mates? I hope a few make it up from the Midlands. It's always nice to see the visiting riders getting a bit of support particularly when they are getting a sound thrashing. Weather forecast for tomorrow for Gorton is dry with a simply tropical 8 degrees of warmth. Bring your scarf.
  9. Well, 15 obviously.
  10. Well, looking at Coventry's lacklustre performance against Birmingham last night. I think your chances of coming away with a win are slim to nil. However, your reserves may be a tad better than ours.........haha The weather forecast is now looking pretty good for Friday and a bit of a shower will pose no problem for the country's best track.
  11. Islander15, you are wise beyond your years. Just to back up your hunch, I did notice the Buxton Hitmen Vorsprung durch Technik staff motor in the guests' car park at Belle Vue on Saturday night. I have a suspicion that one of the Men in Black might have been approached for a sheepskin race suit fitting.
  12. So where does George Hunter live? Is he handy for the Peak District?
  13. Not sure that will be too helpful for our chum from Cov, since the meeting starts at 1300 hours. Dry for Thursday and Saturday doesn't help us poor souls pitching up on Friday!
  14. Don't be so tight. Get a ticket bought. You wouldn't want to miss out on the best seats, would you? If it's rained off you can always get a refund but I have a hunch the weather will be ok.
  15. Good question, Sid. Are you free on Sunday afternoons? A lightly soiled sheepskin race suit in 2XL is available if you are up for it.
  16. Yes, I stood on the west terracing for that one and as you say, it was a stunner. Weather looking slightly iffy at the mo but the forecast could have changed completely by tomorrow.
  17. Wow! Sings is perhaps suggesting that the Gloomy Roadsters are about to become the progressive movers and shakers in the National League. I'm not holding my breath on that one.
  18. David Speight wasn't/isn't that bad a rider particularly on the grass. I think the trouble is that when the phone rings, a rider is inclined to leap in to the vacant spot without having done the necessary preparation and 3 meetings later, he gets booted out because another bargain basement rider becomes available. Having seen both David Speight and Kean Dicken in action, there is no doubt that Speight would put a good half lap into Dicken.
  19. One of the few things about having been a Buxton fan was that the meetings were in the daytime and I can remember at least twice sitting in the warm sunshine enjoying my speedway racing. The other 99 times, it was bloody freezing. The other reason that I prefer going to the NSS in daylight hours is because I don't have to ride to my motorbike back through Longsight in the pitch black!
  20. Hardly a Good Friday thriller but I do like going to meetings at the NSS in the daylight! I hate to say this but I think that Coventry are the slightly better side and I think that the Colts have more weak/untested riders. I know that the the NL is all about young upcoming riders but I do like watching Jon Armstrong giving it large. I think that Coventry will win this by 6 to 8 points
  21. No idea what his problems have been but wish the lad well. No mention yet on the Potter's site but I'm sure that they will have a cunning plan.
  22. Having watched young Dicken last night, I must agree with your analysis of his technique. He trails the throttle down the straight and then whacks it open going into the bend in order to initiate the slide. Whilst this technique might get you round 4 laps, sadly the other riders have all buggered off into the distance. There is a real danger here that an inability to modulate the throttle will increase the likelihood of a sizeable accident. Fingers crossed.
  23. That is a very valid point, guitar_art. There are not sufficient resources in this country for three leagues and perhaps the time has come for the National League to go it's own way and stop being a punch bag for the upper leagues who suck up all the money and assets.
