  1. Press release. Robin Flies to Rockets Rescue Robin Aspegren has been named as the final part of a re-jigged 2015 line-up for Rye House following the rejection of Tyson Nelsons working visa application. Rockets promoter Len Silver moved rapidly to capture the Swedes signature following the news on Nelson, a move which hands Aspegren a return to these shores after a seasons absence. The 25 year old was last here as a two year Berwick Bandit, and has also seen action with Newport and Elite League Swindon. Subject to BSPA sanction of the re-declaration, he will come in on an average of 6.39, which is actually higher than Nelsons 6.16 but still brings the team in below the 42.50 limit. but only just, at 42.49. It is the latest off-track blow, meanwhile, for Tyson, who has previously sat out the 2012 and 2014 British seasons with visa issues and very recently impressed with an excellent 7th place finish in the Australian National Championship series. Still an exciting prospect at just 21, it now remains to be seen whether he will have the opportunity to display his no-fear riding style again in this country. Promoter Silver, in turn, is relieved to put the last few days behind him, having worked franticly from his Silver Ski winter base in the French Alps to fill the sudden unexpected void in his team. I am very excited by the inclusion of Robin Aspegren in our side, but of course highly disappointed that we will not enjoy the spectacle provided by Tyson Nelson. Both Ty and myself were completely devastated when we got the news of another refused visa. As soon as I had got over the shock of the news, work started on finding a replacement and when I discovered that Robin was available and only racing in Sweden on Tuesdays, I did not hesitate to contact him. I am happy to report that I reached agreement with the rider within two phone calls - each one at the end of a fast downhill ski run in the company of Luke Bowen and Jason Garrity here in the French Alps. So it was a very satisfactory morning all round! The re-declared line-up has been submitted to the BSPA for approval and is the closest the Rockets have ever been to the 42.50 points limit, the whole seven adding up to 42.49. Im hoping that could be a positive omen for the season. Revised 2015 Rye House team: Edward Kennett (8.38), Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen (assessed 7.00), Jason Garrity (6.75), Robin Aspegren (6.39), Steve Boxall (5.36), Kasper Lykke (4.65), Luke Bowen (3.96). Overall team total: 42.49.
  2. A lovely man. He sold the Speedway Star at Hackney for a few years. Always enjoyed a chat with him, he loved talking about the good old days of speedway. No doubt at the speedway anniversary get together at Paradice Park in Febuary Eddie will be talked about when I talk about the good old days of speedway! RIP Eddie.
  3. The visa situation is indeed worrying. With all the changes that seem to be about to happen it's gone very quite on the press release front. Kinda think this will be Lens swansong in 2015. I wonder if anyone promoter has had some kind of meeting in there honour while they've been alive? If anyone deserves one such meeting it has to be Len Silver.
  4. Can only really see a Sheffield win here. Reason for a partial success last season I think was Simons Lamberts best meeting for Rye and a track that suits his style, but of course he's at Workington now. The last time I saw a team meeting at Sheffield was probably in 2007. Had a couple of visits to the PLRC and the Ben meeting but league action for me tomorrow. Bunyan should go well at Sheffield I would have thought, Garrity of course picked up a season ending injury at Sheffield last season, I'd think he's more than capable of picking up a few points, as is Kennett, Boxall and Tres. Bowen will pick a few up and depending on if Stefan Nielsen rides or a NL guest Rye may be in with a shout of picking up a point, Prides always at stake and although Rye Houses season is already over, I'm sure the team will try their best and hopefully will be rewarded of at least a point, but it has been known for me to be completely wrong.
  5. I thought the Rebels rode excellently and deserved their win. I also thought there would have been more people to be honest, but not a regular visitor. One question is regards the air fence, if it’s been asked before excuse me, but what happened to the air fence they used to have at Somerset?
  6. We're half way through the 1968 season and I have to say I am really enjoying reliving that season meeting by meeting, week by week. Not going to speedway in 68 [started in 69 at Romford] it's been great just reliving the meetings as if they where actually happening! As a matter of interest next Friday Superama takes place and what a line up Ivan Mauger, AndersMichanek, Eric Boocock, Reider Eide, Sverre Harrfelt, Ray Wilson, Nigel Boocock,Terry Betts, Ken McKinlay, Mike Broadbanks, Geoff Mudge, Ronnie Genz, Roy Trigg, Soren Sjosten, Terry Betts and Cyril Maidment.
  7. Indeed I have but it's not exactly really controversial is it? The Speedway Star aren't going to be in a claims court for printing that!
  8. Rye press release confirms this Rye House vs Redcar (KOC): Postponed With very poor weather forecast for later in the day, the early decision has been taken to postpone tonight's scheduled Knock-Out Cup Semi-Final against Redcar. The meeting is set to be restated as part of a double header on Bank Holiday Monday, August 26th.
  9. How ironic with the going’s on at Ipswich last night, that 45 years ago to the day a similar fracas took place between Hackney’s Jackie Biggs and Sheffield’s Bengt Larssson. But this was on the track by the pits gate at Owlerton and was pictured by Wright Wood. This great picture of the ‘punch’ between these two riders can be seen at http://hackneyspeedw...Welcome-to-1968 I feel that the speedway authorities have a difficult job in this day and age and with the strict PC brigade watching their every move, this doesn’t help them. But in years gone by for those of us who have been around the speedway scene for a few years, confrontation was part of our sport. Brian Foote [Romford] and Tony Childs [Crayford] didn’t exactly see eye-to-eye either on or off the track, but the fans loved it. I always remember when at Romford Speedway Dave Lanning walked on to the Brooklands centre green the fans would boo him. He would of course play to the crowd, we just don’t see that type of showmanship anymore. Promoters would be allowed-especially Len Silver-to say publically over the PA system how they felt at a decision made by referees. Today if this happens the person who controls the meeting in a lot of cases wants to be the star of the show and not the riders and its fines, fines, fines. The Speedway Star & News has also to be so PC. Again in years gone by it could be controversial. It had Ivan Mauger in his weekly column telling the then BSPA how the sport should be run. Its editors wouldn’t be afraid of speaking out at various speedway authorities. But in 2013 we can’t say anything anywhere whether on Twitter, Facebook, or in the press in case that individual or magazine is sued. Just imagine a speedway publication speaking out at say the FIM, BSPA or SCB, they’d ban the publication from being sold at the tracks the length and breadth of the country and that publication wouldn’t be able to survive. Hackney Speedway’s Hawkeye has written a very interesting piece on his views of the recent Speedway World Cup. Why Denmark are the real champions. He’s also writes about Nigel Pearson and his sidekick-my words not his-Kelvin Tatum and also an interesting piece on what the USA team would be without the great Greg Hancock. He also talks about darts in relation to speedway and of course mentions the ‘all party parliamentary group for speedway’ I wish someone could explain that one to me! The whole Hawkeye article, plus others Hawkeye has written this year, are available to read at www.hackneyspeedway.com
  10. You know I thought the same, but no one else around me agreed! Well said Mr Shadders
  11. If Somerset had a nominated number 8 they and the paying public would have not seen so many three rider races and that away point would have been achieved before heat 15. This not having a number 8 rule has to be changed, there were riders their tonight who .could have taken that .mantle. I wish Lewis Rose well, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Luckily it seems Tom Perry will be rather sore this morning, probably his pride hurting more than anything else.
  12. Probably the worst meeting I've seen this year, and the track, well blue grove after one race says it all.
  13. Indeed my monies also on a early call off and with heavy showers forecast for the rest of the day to. But they will start getting a fixture back log, no .income for a couple of weeks, really do fear for the future of rye house. Not sure if clubs still insure against rain offs, but with the summers changing, premiums will go up, most clubs will have no choice but to pass that cost to guess who?
  14. Yes can only see a home defeat here. Like so many others only been to rye a .few times this year. It's very easy to get out of the habit as well. I've got to have the annual bath on Saturday when Newcastle come to take league points so I may do that Saturday evening or shall I go to rye? Like I say really have got out of the habit,
  15. Looks like a fractured forearm for Ollie Allen which isn't good news.
  16. So its Raiders at Sittingbourne Central Park in 2013, 6.30pm start on Monday nights! Interesting to see how that one goes!
  17. Sean Mason yellow, guy wearing black kevlars, Jamie Moolam and the other rider Ryan, not sure of surname. All these guys are from New Zealand, info from Ian Bush and via Bob 'from Stevenage'!
  18. How come he is allowed to ride meetings in Germany? At what age can they ride over there? Think we missing a trick here!
  19. In 2005 Hackney Speedway held its first speedway reunion. For those present it was an unbelievable evening. That unique atmosphere at Waterden Road was once again created on a summers evening in July at former Hawk Pete Sampson’s Paradise Wildlife Park. Riders, promoters and fans came from far and wide to be part of Hackney Speedway once again. I’m delighted to announce in 2012, we will try to rekindle that atmosphere once again when on Friday 8th June, [at eight of course] Hackney Speedway’s ‘Olympic’ reunion will once again take place at Paradise Wildlife Park, now home to the speedway museum. Ticket prices will be announced shortly. Please note that all tickets must be purchased in advance, details on prices etc will be announced at www.hackneyspeedway.com within the next couple of weeks. It promises to be another evening of pure Hackney Speedway nostalgia. Tickets will include on the day Free entry to Paradise Wildlife Park and the Speedway Museum. The park and museum will be kept open to 7:45pm especially for the Hackney Speedway reunion patrons. Visit the idyllic memorial garden where former members of the speedway family are remembered. The licensed bar will open from 7pm till late. Then at 8pm, Hackney Speedway’s ‘Olympic’ reunion will begin with the Hackney’s Speedway’s theme tune, ‘the Magnificent Seven’, and of course the tossing of the coin! It will then be time for a ‘speedway’ barbecue plus desert! More time to get a drink from the bar plus several attractions to be announced. Paradise Wildlife Park in conjunction with the local 4 star Marriott Hotel at Cheshunt have teamed up and have special pricing arrangement for PWP guests wishing to stay over. A minibus service will operate between the hotel and Broxbourne station for those wishing to either stay over or attend by public transport both before and after the event. It promises once again to be a great evening and details will be released in the coming months, watch the speedway publications and hackneyspeedway.com for the latest news....
  20. Rye House press release prices in 2012 Rye House can confirm its admission charges for the new campaign, and it’s positive news in that regard. First off, Rockets’ normal fixtures will see no pricing change from 2011, with Adults remaining at £16, Seniors at £14, Children (12-16) at £5 and Children U-12 FREE. The match programme will be £2. The Raiders’ standard National League fixtures, meanwhile, will see a REDUCTION from 2011 Hackney prices for all Adults at £10, Children (12-16) remaining at £5 and Children U-12 again FREE. The race card will be £1. The final piece of good news is that double header (Premier League/National League) events will be priced as per Premier League level matches, ie there will be no additional admission charge for the Raiders element, with only an increase in the match programme to £3 being implemented to help offset the additional costs of staging these meetings.
