It's still a big gamble for someone to finance a new track somewhere and gamble that the crowd would support it. I think speedway in general is dying off for all sorts of reasons. I watched the Bellevue match last night and was expecting a bigger crowd in the main stand. Not sure how many was there. Maybe that's their normal crowd or maybe being live on tv affected it. There did seem to be alot of kids there though which i suppose is a good sign

Allegedly and may be. I'm very close to one of the riders and there were no issues of not being paid. You Melon. -

Yeah good craic. Kick a club when they're down. It's great isn't it that another club has bit the dust you absolute melon. -
You tell him John. I'd prefer Gold. Ha ha.

Is it not Gold for winning???

Because of the uncertainty and he was proved right

They wouldn't have came cheap probably at a guess 70-80 pound a point plus a signing on fee but you get what you pay for and they would guarantee you probably around 30 points between them a meeting home and away but would our crowds sustain that? It's a catch 22.

Ive followed Newcastle for about 45 years. I would go regardless of the quality of our team but unfortunately there were too many who would stop going when we were poor and i totally respect their decision.

I feel sorry for the new sponsors to be honest as they must have put a lot of trust in Grant regarding team building and i assume they perhaps didn't know too much about Speedway as i wouldn't have been happy with the team that was put together. It was obvious from day one that anyone with half an idea knew that team wouldn't be competitive.

I seen him talking to Newcastle riders in the pits during meetings thinking to myself What is he actually saying to them.
-
I take it this lot was offered to Workington?
-
Not even having the bottle to tell the riders himself about the closure sums him up to be honest.

Some excellent points. Firstly regarding the air fence i was led to believe they only have a certain life span and then have to be replaced. I'm sure someone will correct me on this. Secondly it's a great idea about being supporter funded and there will be plenty of interest initially but when it comes to the crunch of people handing hard earned cash over no matter how big or small it becomes a different matter. Definitely worth giving it a go though. I know THJ looked into how Edinburgh ran theres but not sure he has any interest now. Although he did say in a recent threat how gutted he was now that we are no more longer again. It needs someone like a THJ to try and get us going again even if it's with advice.

Absolute coward he is.

Didn't even have the bottle to let his riders know he was closing down. They found out via a text message from Steve Pate.

Ha ha. Not at the last few meetings. Was no chips either. Must have made the most profit on the burgers. Not surprised at a fiver a shot. And still this thread talks about burgers. Ha ha ha ha ha

Exactly mate and plenty of it

Can't believe this thread has come down to the quality of burgers. Give ya heeds a shake people

To be honest if Newcastle Speedway does survive it's got to be at a new venue as i think Brough Park has run its cause. Speedway isn't really welcome there the track doesn't suit the modern bikes and if we are honest we don't see alot of good racing. Although a new set up won't come cheap and it won't be easy to find the right place and get permission due to noise regulations etc.. I know certain places have been looked into. Fingers crossed there is someone else still willing to take it on and create a good race track like Redcar or Workington's new track. Here's hoping.

Reuben brothers? They own Brough Park

Was always a great day out at Peterborough. Although my team were never very competitive and never made the final i always enjoyed some great racing.
-
Just out of interest. Does anyone know why the Championship Fours is not running this season?
-
If it comes to a track walk i think this one would definitely be the last

Rumours that Newcastle tried to sign Summers a bit ago. Can only put it down to he wasn't happy with what we were offering because he goes well around Newcastle and much less travelling to home meetings as i assume he still lives in Wooler.
