If it rains in F1 the drivers slow down from the top speeds of around 200mph to more like 160mph (depending on the track). Sure they would all like to go at full racing speed, but it's not safe to do so. Visibility in the rain during an F1 race is virtualy zero, as 80 hi-tech tyres throw thousands of gallons of water into the air quite apart from the rain falling. The speeds are frightening with almost no vision. If the track (speedway) is not safe to ride at 70-80mph because of rain, then the riders have to adapt to that like riders have done in the past. Turn the throttle the other way and ride at 60-70mph. Simple as really, but they seem increasing less prepared to even try. The meeting could have gone ahead with those prepared to give it a go, and the others could just bu££er off.

Re Crump - I'll repeat what I said on the other thread. When he didn't know he was on camera, walking across the centre green, he was clearly refusing to ride. When he knew the camera was on him, in the riders/ref 'meeting', he was up for it clapping his hands, come on, lets go, blah blah. There were two of him on show tonight, as there were two Scott Nicholls on show the other night at Swindon.

For his actions that night, yes. I've already said the same thing to one person on the other thread Kev. They were very close, Hans picked up a little extra drive, made slight contact with David, David fell. Thankfully he wasn't hurt but it was nothing more than a racing incident that could have happened on any track, in any conditions, to any rider. As for the risks in my job. I can't even begin to tell you the number of paper cuts I've had over the years. I've got to go back and risk more of the same on Wednesday though.

The official stats given by the MetO show what I have said to be true. They use a 30 year average, 1971-2000. In that time June is a fraction wetter than April. April is prone to heavy showers at the sun becomes stronger, and begins to warm the land after the winter months. Feel free to check the MetO stat fopr yourself. As ever I'm no expert, I just take notice of weather forecasts and stats etc... Back OT

I was referring to a particular post stating that April was the wettest month of the year when in fact it is the second driest. Dec and Jan have close to double the rainfall on average. Sky/JG were the ones who seemed happy for a delay to the match in order that it would go ahead in the end. He also said quite clearly that they were staying out of it.

Two big show case events for the neutral to turn on to in a week, and speedway does nothing whatsoever to encourage them to switch on again or to get up and go to a local track. I maintain my point that most of todays riders won't ride if they can't go full throttle. If it's not safe to go full throttle then make use of the fact that it will twist two ways.

Well that's something. Who's going to pay for people's fuel? It's a long journey for most people outside the immediate area. Will they offer free food and drink? No of course not, so they'll cash in there. How many of the original line-up will be there? Stop trying to cause an argument where there isn't one. Hans just picked up slightly, tried to keep the bike away from David but made slight contact. He was rightly excluded. Nothing more to it than that.

With all due respect you say you're not watching so how can you argue with my opinion? Let's see how many of us come on here and say we've seen speedway go ahead in much worse conditions. As RR said the riders weren't getting into any trouble. They were at racing speed. Mark had gone from last to 2nd. There was no surface water lying on the track. I could go on. That was when he knew he was on camera. When he didn't know the camers was on him, when he was walking across the centre green, he was clearly refusing to ride.

As stated earlier - 6 heats run so no refund for the fans. Big shock. Bet the riders will pick up their pay cheques, say thank you very much and move on to the next one. It all comes down to one thing. The vast majority of todays riders simply refuse to adapt to conditions. If the track is not perfect, and they can't go full throttle, they just say the track is dangerous and as today they refuse to ride.
