Belle Vue vs Ipswich play off semi 1st leg
Chris116 replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
It depends on which day of the week it is and who is asking! -
BSPL appear to be sweeping this under the carpet along with many other things that encourage and help young riders, like doing their best to ruin the NDL which resulted in IOW leaving and racing under NORA.

Did you not see the carpet with a lump in it? The broom was left outside. -
Panthers vs Lions - Thursday 7th September

You should have a drugs test because whatever you are on is a lot stronger than anything any of the riders who have failed tests may have had in their systems. -
I hope the local fire service is very close as I can foresee a series of unexplained fires in the future!

So a showcase meeting was rightly abandoned in June due to rain and no date for a rerun has been announced! If a meeting is important enough to call a "British Championship" then it should be important enough to make a genuine effort to actually run the event. BSPL keep telling us how they want to support the younger riders and then fail them big time.

There have been a number of comments about racing on tarmac. When Wimbledon stadium was in its last months Spedeworth, the stock car promotion, had a number of speedway riders have a last ride around the track during a stock car meeting. Gordon Kennett showed everyone just how to slide around the bends on a tarmac track and looked as if he was on a slick track. The video is on YouTube https://youtu.be/72e5JMM3abI

Doubling up is a curse of British Speedway but the riders need to race for two teams because of the very limited number of fixtures each team races. The only way to solve the problem is to form one big league with teams running a home meeting every week meaning the rider races in the same number of meetings as at present but they are all for the same team. If we have to run with five man teams it will mean the riders get more races in each meeting which is a good thing from the riders point of view as they can make more from each meeting they race.

I hate to say this but postponing a meeting brings back memories of Rye House. I hope things turn out differently for the sake of the regulars at Kings Lynn.

Finale of UK Speedway ?

It would be very good news if could start racing again at Rye House for me as I was a regular there before closure. The two tracks I visited after Rye closing were Poole and IOW. Sadly in both cases it is no longer possible to get back to the Wimbledon area after their meetings due to changes in the train (and ferry in the case of IOW) timetables after Covid. -
If you or the 6 year old are interested in railways then I can recommend the Severn Valley Railway although it is not as cheap as it used to be.

Sadly I often see people saying they don't like any meeting that is not part of the league. I have heard both KO Cup and National Trophy referred to as Micky Mouse meetings! Pairs, Fours, Individual and other meetings don't seem interest many fans for some reason which I have never understood. Even back in the 1960s I can remember half the crowd leaving after the league match and not wanting to watch the second half which normally had racing that was as good as the 13 heats of the league match. I don't understand the reasoning or have an answer as to how promotions can get a crowd for something that is a bit different. Maybe I should ask @barrybishop since IOW seem to have found a formula that works.

Just goes to show how writing rules can be so difficult.

King’s Lynn v Sheffield 01/06/23

The Stock Cars have two dates in June, four in July and five in August! So Trackstar, who like the Speedway, rent the stadium are getting the crowds in far more than once a month. -
Can someone change their nappies and put them to bed PLEASE?

He will probably think both Monmore and Foxhall are training tracks for juniors on 150cc machines! Then take him to Mildenhall and watch his expression. -
Finale of UK Speedway ?

Three meetings in a day for my family was Rayleigh for speedway in the morning, then stay for the Stock Cars and Bangers in the afternoon followed by a dash back to Wimbledon for the evening Speedway meeting. I have done an Arena Essex Speedway meeting followed by a Mildenhall Stock Cars and Bangers meeting in the evening which resulted in me commentating at Mildenhall that evening due to their regular commentator being ill and the promotor being very unhappy behind the microphone. EDIT - I also had a wonderful day with my parents going to Cradley for a USA v England Speedway Test Match on a Saturday afternoon followed by the BriSCA F1 Stock Cars at Coventry in the evening. Sadly it was our only ever visit to Cradley but it was certainly one of our maddest trips as I drove a Reliant Robin in those days. -
Don't forget that Plymouth were forced out of the NORA league before it even started due to threats from either SCB or BSPL. Restraint of trade is illegal and the SCB could therefore face legal action from two of their own promotions and the stadium owners involved. If SCB fine every promotion that has no control over what other events take place at the stadium they use I can see BSPL ceasing to exist even sooner than many of us fear.

If the Sittingbourne promoter has been fined for using the same track as a NORA event then why has Rob Godfrey not been fined as well since he actually runs NORA events? How many other tracks that run BSPL events also run events under NORA? I hope Sittingbourne tell the BSPL to go to hell and help them on their way by suing them for restraint of trade.

On a similar theme, one well known Stock Car driver had the following on the back of his car:- "Second place is first loser"

You were there and my comment is based purely on what has been said. Where a person is watching from can make a huge difference to what they see and I say having been a steward in Stock Car racing. I once had a very close finish to a major championship where my view made me make one decision but thankfully I looked at two different video views which both showed things that I could not see from race control and I was able to make an informed decision. A speedway referee is not always in the best position to make a decision depending on where on the track an incident takes place. Speedway referees don't have the help of videos so they can only call what they think they have seen with no help. We all like close, competitive racing but brings with it the increased chance of incidents like the one between Worrall and Edwards. Depends on where we are watching from and possibly who we support on how we view any incident. The important thing is that the riders are not injured in any crash and we can continue to enjoy watching them entertain us while they try to earn a living.
