  1. In the run up to an election if a politician's lips are moving you are probably hearing lies.
  2. Living very close to Wimbledon it was the track I visited twice a week for many years (speedway and stock cars) with my parents and Ronnie Moore was my hero. Hackney was however visited half a dozen times a year with early memories including 'pirate' Provincial League meetings. At that time we used the Central line to Leyton and caught the special bus to the track. The buses were some of the oldest I ever travelled in. Moving forward to the mid 70s and I took my new girlfriend to her first speedway meeting, a young England verses young Poland event. The Poles had an absolutely dreadful evening and when one fell off early in the meeting and my father casually mentioned that the bikes did not have brakes my girlfriends face went sheet white and she could barely watch the rest of the meeting. Moving forward to the late 80s and Race Video asked me to do the commentary at both Hackney and Arena Essex for their Speedway videos. A lasting memory from that time was interviewing Steve Schofield with him stand two steps up the stand steps so our heads were at the same height for the camera. I just wish Wimbledon, Hackney and Arena Essex were still running as I miss my weekly fixes of two and four wheel racing.
  3. Deleted as posted in wrong topic.
  4. What is the weather doing? What was the forecast? Are we in danger of Buster running a home meeting and how is he going to justify actually promoting a meeting?
  5. Dave, I got told the same about commentating and one day a Superstox driver insisted I took his car out in a mechanics race. Having spun one car out after he dived up the inside, I then got another joker who didn't know what the front bumper was for. As we went round the third and fourth bends with me on the outside line at Wisbech my plan was to follow him down the straight and then give him a large helping push towards the fence on turn one. Sadly I tried to get behind him too quickly with the result that my front inside wheel went over his rear outside wheel and I landed up three quarters of the way through the fence, upsidedown! Gave everyone something to talk about and I found that getting out of a Superstox is easier when they are upsidedown. Great thing was nobody could tell me that I didn't know what a crash felt like. I still keep thinking that I really ought to have a go on a speedway bike at somewhere like Isle of Wight, just to be able to say I have done it but I definitely don't want to get introduced to the fence as that would be a lot more painful on a bike compared to a Superstox.
  6. About eight years ago I received a very explicit porn video on my Facebook account. I forwarded it with a complaint to Facebook who promptly banned me for a month for forwarding it to them! When I pointed out that the instructions for making a complaint said you should forward the message with the complaint they replied that users were not allowed to forward obscene messages! When I asked how I could make a complaint in accordance with their rules if I was not allowed to forward the message they replied that as I was not willing to follow the rules I was permanently banned and no further communication would be acceptable. My reaction was to tell them in explicit language what they could do with their service. I have never gone back as they seem to support obscene messages.
  7. I have just looked at the BSPL website fixture list and 8 minutes after the meeting was due to start it is still advertising the meeting! This is totally unprofessional from what is supposed to be a professional organisation.
  8. I am not privy to the exact financial details but he does not run the company who promote the car racing.
  9. Buster does not run the stock car meetings, they are run by Trackstar who hire the stadium.
  10. I am obviously not up to date as I thought Poland were only allowed Thursday for rerunning meetings that had been rained off.
  11. I doubt that IoW and NORA would want him anywhere near their organisations.
  12. BSPL website still not been updated! Now there's a surprise.
  13. Mildenhall, Isle of Wight, Iwade and Buxton would make for a good start to a proper NORA League and Iwade could be used by both Kent Kings and Crayford making five teams. Maybe all four tracks could run two teams. I think BSPL would perhaps start to take notice, pull their socks up and start to actually promote lower division racing.
  14. The latest announcement on the BSPL website mentions a stock car meeting but it was only smaller Banger classes plus 2L and 1300 Saloons not the big F1 cars which do rip up a track. Unless the track was very wet before the racing started it should not have suffered anything that could not be put right in 24 hours.
  15. As I have said elsewhere, not a good night to be the home team!
  16. As I said elsewhere, not a night to be the home team!
  17. The stock car promotions, as well as many kart and Motocross tracks post the results on Speedhive but to date speedway has not done so.
  18. How speedway can fail with transponders when many of the tracks run stock cars who have been using transponders for many years with very few problems. System works for 20 plus cars but can't manage 4 bikes. It must be a totally rubbish system or the transponders are fixed too high on the bikes. On the cars they have strict rules about where they are fixed including how high above the track.
  19. Just checked BSPL and Speedway Updates. Speedway Updates say the meeting is OFF but BSPL website still showing the meeting as going ahead after Ipswich announced the meeting was off on Facebook over half an hour ago. Not very impressive.
  20. How does losing your number one to injury before the season starts make you a badly run club. If it were true then some of the most successful clubs in the sport would according to you be badly run. I think the situation proves that there should be rules about what happens when a team finds themselves in the position that Plymouth are currently in. Those rules should take into account the effect on whichever club has been unlucky enough to be facing the problem Plymouth are in and also consider how such a rule affects the sport as a whole. Any new rule will also have to consider what happens if the injured rider then decides not to take their place in the team while riding in other countries or due to retirement. ALL the promotions need to think very carefully before agreeing to any such rule(s) as the last thing the sport needs is another badly written rule that is open to interpretation depending on who is asking.
  21. The thing about the team needing seven riders has to be for the meeting that is cancelled. According to the BSPL website they have seven declared riders but one of them is injured. I can't remember a team being thrown out of the league because a rider has suffered an injury in 65 years of following the sport.
  22. Totally agree with that but can you imagine the howls of indignation at how the field was not the standard that had been put together for the first try at running? Another case of whatever a speedway promotion does, it is wrong in some people's view.
