  1. Not a happy evening for the Warriors but we still saw some entertaining action. Given the weather all the riders put on a great show. I met a number of Mildenhall fans who enjoyed seeing their side claim four points but you could tell they would have been happier if Warriors had been at full strength. Thank you to Barry Bishop for encouraging me to get myself to the meeting, with his enthusiasm the Warriors deserve all the success possible and I am looking forward to seeing the Belle Vue Colts in twelve days time against a hopefully fitter Warriors side. Best wishes to Georgie, Danno and Scott, I hope they all recover soon from their injuries.
  2. I think everyone knows how hard you and team at Smallbrook work to provide a great evening. Very sorry that Danno and Georgie are injured but you are not to blame for that. I wish them both all the best and am still looking forward to seeing you and the racing tonight and for the Belle Vue meeting.
  3. I already have my electric railway ticket and as a volunteer guard on the Mid Hants Railway I get very cheap travel on the Steam Railway.
  4. That one fan is currently on the ferry as I am spending the day on the Steam Railway before enjoying the racing this evening. The Wightlink ferry has TV's all around it and I have just seen a very good advert for the Speedway, although I hope we don't have a crash like the one shown!
  5. No need to apologise, I can see exactly how you misunderstood the OP.
  6. The original post is talking about the MSDL match that was to take place after the main meeting. The track was still flooded after heat 15 and so the MDSL match did not start.
  7. I will try to find the air horn that the Rye House promotion gave out at the last televised meeting at Hoddesdon.
  8. Sadly there used to be many stadiums that had seating and good terraces but Wimbledon, West Ham, Coventry, New Cross, Hackney, Leicester, Walthamstow and Crayford have all been built on by developers. The tragic part about it is that the public expect good standard stadia, quite rightly but in many cases they are the very stadia that get knocked down.
  9. Since I was not at the meeting I did not feel I could have an opinion but a number of people have mentioned that the Eastbourne management should have told the Glasgow riders how the presentations are done at Arlington. I have been watching Speedway since 1957 and at every track I have been to where the riders and their bikes are on track it has been standard practice for the Away team to be introduced, then the Home team is introduced and then the two captains come forward to toss for gate positions. I fail to understand how any rider would not know that none of the bikes leave the area where the introductions are being made until after ALL the riders have been introduced. I personally suspect that both sides were trying to wind each other up and got annoyed about what the opposition were doing. The SCB needs to send out a clear message that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated by slapping some heavy fines on the riders involved and also on the management of both sides for failing to control their riders and staff.
  10. He has asked me to introduce myself so we can have a chat. His enthusiasm is infectious.
  11. The next meeting at Smallbrook Stadium this Thursday at 7pm sees the Fen Tigers from Mildenhall looking to improve on their nine point loss in the Trophy early in the season. Warriors will be fresh from their Silver Ski Four Team tournament win on Monday at Kent but will probably be without Danno Verge after his heat 14 crash with Adam Extance which saw both riders in need of attention and the meeting result called after 13 of the 16 heats had run. My best wishes to both Danno and Adam on a speedy recovery. It looks as though this Thursday should be a close encounter with both sides needing to add to their league points tally. For me personally, it will be my first meeting since Rye House closed and I wish to thank Barry Bishop for his encouragement which has raised my enthusiasm for the sport back to where it has been for over 60 years. The bad news for Barry is that this will be my first meeting as an over 65!
  12. A sad end to what appeared to be a good meeting. Best wishes to Adam Extance and Danno Verge following their crash at the start of heat 14. Well done to IOW Warriors on their victory this evening and over the three rounds.
  13. I see the BSPA website is out of date as usual. It still redirects you to www.glasgowtigers.co instead of www.glasgowtigers.com! You would have thought that when all the teams changed to .com they would have updated the links for ALL the teams not just some of them.
  14. Something to do with how it is cooked!
  15. Never forget that Parker would make Chapman appear to be an angel. Any good that Parker ever did in either Speedway or Stock Cars was only done due to it being in his interests. The nastiest piece of work I ever met.
  16. I hope Philip Rising doesn't see this thread, it could be bad for his health!
  17. Can I ask where you got this information from as neither the SCB or BSPA websites say anything? You have to wonder when the report will be published given how long we have been waiting for reports of investigations that were started last season.
  18. I thought Debbs was JCF's girlfriend and she said she was topless on Poole beach so looks like he is two timing her or can't remember what he/she typed earlier!
  19. Sadly I have not seen a single meeting this season. Last season I went every meeting at Rye House except for the last one. I know it is possible for me to get to Poole, Peterborough, Isle of Wight and Belle Vue by train but all would cost a lot of money even with an advance rail ticket which given the British weather and fixture changes don't really seem a good idea. I am 65 and have been watching speedway since the age of 3. I don't expect Grand Prix stars for £5. Over the past couple of years I have been to two Junior Championship meetings at Rye House and very enjoyable they were. So I am a stay away fan who still follows the sport and would love to have a local track but after a lifetime with tracks all around London I now find I have no local Speedway or Stock Car tracks within a sensible distance which I find very sad and as a parting shot I pray that Galliard Homes find a massive sink hole and fall into it, having knocked down my second home, Wimbledon Stadium.
  20. Thankfully it appears the four aliases haven't worked out which one is going to start it.
  21. The track you were on must have had no dirt otherwise you would have been in front all the time!
  22. Yes, and if you sat on the front row you still had to lean forward a bit which didn't go down well with those behind you. Only went once, paid to go in the stand but after one race went out and spent the evening on the terraces watching each race from a different point around the track. There was enough dirt to allow a leg trailer on a Rudge to go well!
  23. Any chance someone could fix that nasty repeat on the 'm' key for bjcol. Other option would be to remove the whole keyboard!
  24. Yes, and 95% of them did all the work on their own bike and had a second job. They didn't have to pay an engine tuner or a mechanic, they did their own tuning and a friend or relative was their mechanic who was happy with free admission, a drink and a fish and chip supper. Very different times. Back in the late 50's and early 60's there were also a number of Stock Car drivers whose full time job was racing, something that would be totally impossible nowadays. Again showing how times change.
  25. I am a great believer that all tracks should have good medical cover for the safety of both riders and spectators. What I have never understood is why the track paramedic has to go with the NHS ambulance to hand their patient over to the hospital. Surely they could hand the patient over to the paramedic in the ambulance who could then hand them over to the hospital staff while the track paramedic was then able to stay at the track and be available for any further incidents. EDIT I understand that if the track ambulance is used to carry the patient to the hospital then the track paramedic would have to accompany them. But over the years have been at meetings where an NHS ambulance has arrived and the track paramedic has gone with it to the hospital which is the bit I don't understand.
