The best match race i have ever seen was between alan and joe owen at the park rd track at barrow , they put on a hell of a show riding side by side knocking lumps out of eachother, a memory i wont forget .

Sad news read the book when it came out a good read , a storey about the bikes but what came across was the love of his wife for alan after his accident, i wonder if he and alan cowland will make up if they meet upstairs lol

Is that his family we keep seeing they have been at every round ?

First away meeting berwick 1972 that track makes this one look smooth, but watching the templeton boys fly round happy days .

Never seen that before but why didnt the flag man just pick it up, surely he caused rhe race to be stopped hes excluded .

If u watch closely u will see although nicki is trying to push them out he hits some shale which lifts him across the other guys path and knocks his front wheel .

For once nicki gets a taste of his own! All down to the track though.

Top storey on the bbc motorsport section of sport nice to be remembered

Went to have a look down northside on sun no bikes but alot of cars some sort of show , however lots of motor x bikes with the riders just having fun riding the bikes no mention of wanting paid for it, i wondered if it could ever catch on for our sport !?

The burgers at derwent park were allways good value, u could still taste them 3 days later !

On a visit to "cadburys world" in the big red bus was told they were "99s" because when the flakes were first boxed there was 99 flakes in the box and the name stuck .

Does anyone know why they are called "99"s answer later.

I used to drive mark to barrow before he could drive, at one time mark his brother sean, des wilson geoff powell steve lawson myself and poss jacko irving all rode cycle speedway in workington all thanks to good old ian thomas !

Mark and sean courtney lived in workington and am sure first saw speedway their but never rode for the comets .if ever u see sean ask him how his fingers are

Watched chris in his final year at workington, overweight he was knackered after 4 laps with a red face and sweat pouring off him ron bagley thought if fit he could still have been a number 1 for the comets just lasted a few weeks!

Still got that race on video stancl hardly moves when the tapes go up and was one of the first to get to penhall after the race

I remember he would come to workington sometimes on the train saw him pushing his bike from the station about 100 yrds to the track, seem to recall taffy owen coming off on the back straight and geoff catching his bike am sure geoff was on a brand new jawa that night !
