  1. No point in signing him if he does nor turn up. None the less a good result for Kent in spite of no Dugard.
  2. hawks1975, I could not agree more. I thought that the match against Redcar was a terrific entertainment and at one point I thought that the Kings just might get a result. While that turned out to be too optimistic, there were still a lot of plusses. Old Bob at Herne Bay should actually stop criticising from afar and failing to support his local team. Take the trouble to get out of your armchair, turn off the telly and enjoy what Hawks, myself and hundreds of others are enjoying at Central Park.
  3. You obviously have not been watching Paul Starke lately. A magnificent show from him on Tuesday and I believe Kent have obtained his full contract recently. The purchase price has not been made public, but for sure , his contract wasn't free
  4. In the match programme v Redcar, Len had a column and said that there was some hope of signing a rider. So clearly it is what the club are trying to do. All of us know that European riders need work permits and we also know that they are not issued easily. Brexit has done Speedway no good at all. Still enjoyed the racing though....Top Quality.
  5. I go along with that. The racing was always cut and thrust and it always looked possible that Kent might just scrape a win., But the more balanced Bears side took it in the end. Paul Starke was outstanding and harshly dealt with by the referee which turned a winning heat for the Kings into a winning heat for the Bears and this made the score much bigger than it should have been. Heeps not at the races and it is pretty clear that he has come back from his injury far too soon.
  6. I agree with Richard Weston. Mulford should be given every opportunity. I was told that at Scunthorpe he went in one race from last to first only to make a big error in the last bend and they all came back by him. I did not see it personally, can anyone confirm that ?
  7. From my Arena Essex days I have been a great fan of Paul and I am very surprised at his poor form. He is a much better rider than we have seen so far this yea.r
  8. Great really that all Speedway fans are dreamers. The idea of every stadium being in a dome like the Eden Project is very appealing. Maybe Richard Branson will give up his Space Chase and invest in Speedway instead ? His fun would last a lot longer !
  9. For once In agree with Sings. Track covers is a good idea and I would think it's easy enough to have 6/8 staff members standing by to install them and remove as necessary, removing them when it stops raining etc, just like Wimbledon tennis. As a serious comment, Kent look likely to have real fixture problems if the wet Summer continues.
  10. I agree. They have decided to have rain, day in. day out for the last 3 or 4 weeks. You'd think they could do better than that
  11. Actually I arrived in the stadium at about 5.15 and from the grandstand the track looked fine to me. I was more than surprised to hear that the referee had stopped it.
  12. Ledwith pulled out of the Kings before the season started. He obviously has issues outside of the sport as he has now dropped out altogether. Shame, I liked watching him ride, usually above his level. It has always been clear to any observer that Kent are in a learning curve, and that has in fact been quoted by the management more than once. The club have two of Britains outstanding prospects and as a Kings fan I will get a lot of pleasure from watching their progress. I think the vast majority of Kent fans will give their support win or lose. They have a truly great rider leading the side and others who have still to get to their best, such as Cameron Heeps. He is IMO a much better rider than we have seen so far, largely caused by his early injury. So it's not all doom and gloom.
  13. An. amazing score for a rider with such limited experience. Those of us at Kent who have been watching him all realise what a fresh talent he is and there is no doubt that he will feature as part of the Kings side in the future. As a big fan, the sooner the better.
  14. Poole have traditionally spent far more money than any other club. Clearly their income ( at least in the past) has allowed them to do it. Kent, on the other hand, with a stupid 8.30 curfew to contend with have never been a rich club, but has, it seems , sound finances. They recently purchased the contract of Paul Starke, so they are prepared to spend money if it is needed.
  15. I agree with sharpen rake. Unless fans pay to watch the sport dies. I am certainly watching this match on my computer if it all works and I have been happy to pay for the service. Technik is one of an army of people who allege that they support Speedway, but want it all for nothing. The Updates thing is something I have never agreed with.
  16. What great memory. Although I only started going to Hackney after West Ham closed ( sad sad day), I certainly remember Len often made that sort of remark on the microphone.. All these years later and the Hammers closed again and here I am at Len's club again. But he does not talk on the microphone these days.
  17. Now Kirkylane MUST be an older fan. It was at Hackney that Len Silver had the Magnificent Seven as his march out tune and that was nearly 40 years ago !! Great Days.
  18. Ditto to that. I always enjoyed watching Rob as he was all action and quite unpredictable. Could beat the best in the league sometimes and a vastly underrated rider. Now Spooner has to stand up and be counted. A good opportunity for him to shine.
  19. What do you know that the rest of us don't ?
  20. No reason given for that, but he is injured at present, so may have been a factor. Also, after his long stay at Scunny, they would not have dropped him without very good reason.
  21. But it was the interference of TV football that caused Kent to cancel 2 meetings. I was at all 3 meetings staged and crowds looked pretty healthy as far as I could tell. Certainly not at danger level IMO. But no bars or food outlets open and a private burger van was the only food outlet, so I should think quite a bit of lost income there. No track shop either, so even more income lost.
  22. I doubt that the needs reminding. But where do you think he should look to find any riders of Championship ability ?
  23. Good idea to bring in another heat leader and I expect Len is on the phone to several as we speak. All Brits of course and living South of Watford Gap.
  24. Don't know how you keep track of all that information. Who checks anyway ? With the vast majority of adults now having had injections, I do not see why we cannot get back to more or less normal life. So many businesses, including Speedway, are suffering needlessly IMO.
