well, that was a corker of a meeting, passing in almost every race, track immaculate considering the amount of water that has fallen over the last couple of days.pie, chips and peas excellent as always as was the missisus curry sauce.my first speedway meeting of the season, glad in a way sheff was off.fine evening all round.well done scunthorpe. -

what the heck.is this true.where did this info come from? -
but i thought all of the food proceeds were the stadiums anyway so surely the corporate entertainment that you mention plus all of us regular people eating ,profit wise goes to mr allen
-
but trying to entice with fancy food etcisnt the answer.if you want a nice meal you go out to a restaurantpurely for that purpose.speedway is all about the basics and the atmosphere so i f you come to watch the speedway you come for that purpose alone.

i remember my first visit to the old scunthorpe track at ashby ville.no posh carvery,no bar so no posh drinks, no terracing.just grass to stand on, they did invest a little later with,if i can recall, and somebody correct me if i am wrongs sawn in half double decker bus as a stand.the pits were just corrugated sheet metal on a frame and the ref was put in some sort of a shed, no turnstiles just someone taking money at a table(re buxton)but the racing there always seemed good too.if you are a true speedway supporter then basically that is all you need.think there might have been refreshments van as well.happy days
-
totally agree, people don't particularly want posh restaurants, executive boxes and banqueting suites unless you've got plenty of cash.look at sunny.small bar and food facilities.open terracing.no sheffield but one hell of a terrific racetrack.i for one don't want to be in a goldfish bowl watching the racing, i want to be outside for the noise, smell etc.you may as well be watching it on the t.v if not.and i also agree with charlieboy,s comments that in a sport that is dying on its arse, the gap in fixtures is ridiculous.try explaining to a young kid that they cannot go for another 2 to 3 weeks because of the lack of fixtures.unfortunately times have changed and if the kids aren't doing other activities then they are stuck behind a screen of some description.the sport will almost definitely be running in another 5 years but not in this country.

once again our once great sport in the doldrums.the b.s.p.a totally ruining the sport.rules over the years all over the place.a promotion doing their utmost to promote during close season to try and attract new supporters.our beloved isa turn terracing ripped apart for the benefit of mr allen.a team not performing as expected.track not up to scratch, on the whole poor racing and now the club up for sale.hope and prey now that someone takes us elite so that we get our rightful race night back and enjoy top flight speedway as this is the only racing that the b.s.p.a seem interested in.sheffield have too much of a heritage to be allowed to fold but maybe this is the signal for the end of league racing as we know it.hope not.only time will tell

sad times.i haven't attended this season purely because of the change in race days after having attended for more years than i care to remember, obviously, even putting the start time back hasn't,t made any difference either.all i can say is thank you to the bates family for rescuing the club in the first place and hope that everything else that you do works out for you.i,like many others, hope that a buyer is found before our beloved club ends up as another casualty and really hope that we can get our traditional race night back.

sad state of affairs, like you said, what about supporters from sheffield who have arranged time off and accommodation around this.rain off or any other reason is acceptable but this.no wonder supporters are getting fed up.what is happening to our once great sport?weeks between fixtures due to lack of fixtures, indeed, sheffield were going to put on a meeting of some description yesterday but due to the poorly attended top gun meeting, decided against it.like has been mentioned, long way to come at great expense for just a single meeting.pretty much gone are the days of the southern and northern tours, like everything else ,speedway is becoming expensive to follow, especially away.what with this and a lack of riders and doubling up, there can only be one outcome and not a good one at that. -

well done to tigers for coming from 8 point down but on speedway updates it was mentioned that the crowd was woeful and more atmosphere at a tiddlywinks contest.i do think that changing to a sunday raceday certainly hasn't helped the situation as was mentioned on the updates about some sheffield supporters now going to watch scunthorpe because of this change.this, coupled with the obvious lack of entertainment racing wise at sheffield is a recipe for disaster.a lot of people have also had their regular viewing spot removed with the building alterations.plus, unless you sit in the panorama room or restaurant to view the racing, there is nowhere to sit outside either when many other tracks do at least have a stand.this ,coupled with the lowering of the points limit meaning most 1,3,and 5,s arn,t even true heat leaders is not a good sign.plus ,and i know that this has always been the case in speedway, can you possibly travel ,in some cases, miles to a meeting only for it to be called off last minute or a few hours before, especially when going with children.take sheffields match at glasgow as a fine example, pounds in petrol and food costs wasted and possibly stay overs because the meeting is called off.speedway at championship level at a lot of tracks is definitely on the decline.i haven't been once this season after many many years of watching speedway and if i,m brutally honest, havn,t really missed it and have saved myself some money into the bargain.the change of raceday killed it for me.i shall attend the pairs and cardiff because this was pre booked but unless i visit scunthorpe the odd occasion for better racing then sadly speedway will be no more. -
good post from someone with some sense.i have followed sheffield ,give or take a few years, for 43 years except now, if we keep to sunday afternoon, then I am afraid my spectating days at sheffield will be numbered.having not been this season i will admit that i don't know what the attendances have been like but it appears that things have gone downhill with track preparation especially since grahame trollop stopped doing it.this together with the dust issue plus the poor start to the season does not bode well.i don't think the team is as strong as last season and look what happened.as much as i like danny king he is not an out and out number one like josh g was.losing charles wright was a big loss after only one season and the same goes for josh bates and todd kurtz.i like ty as a rider but fear he is way past his best form and the same with kyle.kemp has time on his side as does zaine.broc nicol is too inconsistant and not sure about kasper.it has been mentioned that danny doesn't team ride which is important in speedway but he's not the only one.not a lot of fixtures left now we are out of the shield comp.the ko cup looks iffy too on paper.just glad i didn't renew my season ticket.
-
not according to the updates site where they say that there was only one decent race and that was the final.that makes it 4 decent races in two meetings then.not exactly thrill a minute stuff.no change at the programme stall, turnstiles or cafe and the bar was closed.makes me wonder that its a good thing i won't be going this season after all.

don't really know why a lot of people wouldn't think that this would be fairly close.scunny have garrity, auty and allen who can all ride owlerton and in fact was a good job garrity and auty didn't weigh in with a few more or it could have been a whole lot different. -

sundays are a pig for me to attend anyway but would probably have made this one.in all honesty though I cant risk my hard earned money on admission for 2 on the premiss that the track might be o.k and that the racing might be exciting.if it is them its my loss but cant take the chance.the time to have got it right was last week especially when new supporters are being sought. -

in all fairness why don't we have th teams just wearing the racing bibs over there own leathers.riders are distinctive enough for people to know who they are.wether they are pink and black as in josh bates or blue as are chris harris,s set or black and green for charles wright it doesn't matter.i know as a youngster that doug dyer stood out in his white hassled leathers.its the same, to some degree, like ty proctors distinct orange goggles and peak.very distinctive.
