  1. But with the might of Monster Joe behind him he will get a wild card either way. It was good to see that the "racer" is alive in well inside Chris Holder and that is what we expected when he signed for KL Stars. Made a mockery of his own criticism of poor track conditions though, especially his first ride in the extreme wet conditions. Hmmm. I originally intended to post this here re this Weds match - It's the "Hey, I am THE Boss " Buster show. Like Nero fiddling while Rome burns. History will not treat him kindly for his era of control of the BSPA which seems to have brought nothing positive to the sport. Those with the D/H Rye House rain off ticket should get in free ( as is legally binding I am assured ) but my guess is it will be Buster's favourite generous offer of a fiver off.

  3. I suspect that the two or three teams coming up has already been decided and is nothing to do with what happens on the track. The re-structuring looks like being 12 in the top league with lots of shuffling around below that to make up the 2nd tier.
  4. Robert doesn't look like going down the "throw it all away" line but he is still young. Robert is well capable of going all the way to the GP's and even to a world title ( assuming he can gate more consistently than he does currently ). He has natural talent on a bike in much the same way as Michael Lee had. Perhaps Michael Lee's success came too easily and too early but they are very different personalities.
  5. It's not the ones who some call "moaners" you need to be concerned about for leaving the sport, it's all others who say nothing and just stop going after missing one to two meetings. Then realising that they didn't miss the experience very much - that is how so many have drifted away in the last few years. Why they left is what the BSPA needs to be interested in and concerned about. However they seem not to be not very concerned and still have this air about them of "this is what we are offering, take it or leave it".
  6. Gavin said " Come on Tai, what a great chance for us to see a three time British World Champion, something i never thought i would see in my lifetime" I too never believed that I would live long enough to see that - Woffy Woffy Woffy Go Go Go! Fingers crossed.
  7. There may not be life at the club regardless of wether Robert stays or goes. If he doe leave then I suspect that a few more fans will walk away from speedway and KL Stars. Buster would need to draft in a very exciting replacement No.1. Is that his announcement next Weds? If it is I hope that is that Robert Lambert is staying in 2018.
  8. My post was only to see if there was some certainty about current pay rates that could publicly be accepted so that we can discuss how it could be funded with mostly falling crowds. I didn't think that Doyle was really getting £500 a point as I was told that around £200 a point was common ( with some pluses as agreed individually. ) I can't see how tracks can pay much more than £200 a point in the Premiership ( perhaps less in the Championship ). At that rate a good rider scoring 400 points a season is receiving £80,000. Can any expect to earn more from the sport in the UK, as they also have sponsors?
  9. So we can assume that Doyle is being paid £500 per point at Swindon currently? Including the guarantee or is that a straight £4 - 5k guarantee ( match fee ) regardless of points scored? Other "lesser" riders are getting paid £200 a point in the premiership - do you think? Other than the tax man concerns, I cannot see why all riders and promotions are so very coy about outgoings on riders payments - while at that same time pleading poverty to fans. We are all in it together except that promoters lose more money ( and the remaining fans lose their favourite sport).
  10. It was the first time I had seen such a match live via You Tube. Excellent picture with no break up problems. So how is it funded? But of course it should not have been run in such conditions. The first 8 heats were Gate and Go because nothing else was possible. I understand that re-staging had many problems about it ( or was impossible ) but I have never seen a league match run in such conditions, so the track problem at the infamous KL V Poole "walkout" match were, as of nothing! Congratulations to Robert Lambert the most exciting rider on show and who may still get on the rostrum for a medal.
  11. As far as I know the top points money in the UK Premiership is £200 a point plus those guarantees that no-one does want to talk about but in the days of Sky TV money was said to be, for example for Iversen at KL was £1,500. Meaning that for a maximum he could take home £4,000 to £5,000.
  12. I suspect that it might be ( yet to be confirmed ) that the £8 might be the best you can expect from Buster. Or perhaps he has told Nigel Pearson that it is, all in free with a rain off ticket but Pearson is too busy to put it up on the website? Once Buster makes his mind up the decision is set in stone. Zilch or £8 who knows.
  13. These riders and others on the D/U list are getting at least £100 a point plus travel expenses. Some are on £200 a point. They are doing well out of the sport but cannot believe that it will go on and on with 1,000 ( if lucky ) average crowds watching them. Just do the sums. Only a handful of promoters can carry on with sponsors putting substantial amounts in. 50% of tracks are likely not running a viable business.
  14. Buster is far from skint. The stock car is the golden goose of the moment and his other careful property investments have worked out well. His passion for speedway, once legendary, has oozed away I suspect and as a business the speedway side of things must be hardly viable. Without a continued major sponsor I reckon that running speedway ( at any level ) at all in KL is as wobbly as at some other UK places.
  15. Free admission for anyone presenting their ticket from the original double header. What not? It IS a rain off ticket. They are entitled to use it. If Buster cared about the fans ( and the sport ) he would have promptly announced it. He has lost the plot on this issue, it seems. Buster doesn't care much, seemingly, who if anyone turns up for this meeting. Of course on Monday ( or perhaps Tuesday ) we will be told that 2018 depends on fans turning up to show " how much they really want speedway in King's Lynn". Not much from my point of view, IF it's the same old, same old promotional style from Buster.
  16. Riders DO have a major part to play in the "saving" or re-structuring of speedway. Accepting what is available to them as realistic points and "package" money will be essential to stabilise the sport. They ARE heroes at all levels for their on track efforts but the level of fan support, make a football style lifestyle ( even for the best ) in the UK, pie in the sky. It is a different level of sport compared to racing in Poland and in Sweden where the fan base is excellent ( Poland ) and good ( in Sweden seemingly ). The head in the sand pose of promoters about the average crowd level ( or their public acceptance of it ) and what that means for viability is not helpful. If what can be afforded as a pay level for riders is unacceptable to a lot of them, that will signal a further step along the way of the sport ceasing to exist.
  17. Oh Yes! Or the dis-organisational side of speedway. It can hardly claim to have been "organised" over the last two or three years. A good, close race in 1957 and in 2017 is just as satisfying!
  18. Sadly it will never happen until and unless speedway in it's present form does collapse completely and a single engined format is brought in to re-build the sport of speedway racing in the UK. They would still ( and why not ) be paid on a results basis. Yes, the most skilled riders would come out on top, as technique and the ability to master it is what really counts. I don't think that it will be the GTR only route that speedway eventually follows.
  19. I agree except for I genuinely believe that people outside of speedway do not laugh at it because they no longer see it. It vanished from public view around the turn of the century. I want to Shout it Out LOUD - please Robert, stay and ride for at least one more season for the Stars IF Buster is going to change things so that lost fans revive their interest. Robert Lambert is the best thing to happen to KLS for ten years.
  20. I agree fully. At what is the 55th minute of the final hour of speedway, as we know it - the SS editorial is most welcome. Please let it be heard and fully understood by all the UK promoters - including the long established "senior" ones. Listen to all ideas before rejecting them and make every effort as do the IOW do, to sell, what people want to buy.
  21. Yes all that Barry Bishop wrote about how they promote and run speedway on the IOW is great to hear, truly. But for those who post what is feedback ( not just negativity ) which BB values highly and which appears to be ignored by individual local promoters and the BSPA. This is the case at my local track King's Lynn where feedback is ignored for whatever reason. To say that all is well within speedway would be foolish in the extreme and although I think speedway in it's present form will die out, I don't want it to. I want to contribute positive ideas about how the efforts on the IOW can be replicated everywhere. Just read the comments in the SS this week by the Scunthorpe promoter and they were "negative". Positive promotions are being held back, not by the sport but by the BSPA, who I suppose are the sport?
  22. It certainly is at King's Lynn where numbers have dropped by at least 25 or 30% in the last three years. I doubt if the average crowd exceeds 1,000 but as Buster doesn't agree with the purpose of them, we will never know. And compared to say 10 years ago there has been a huge decrease in attendances - perhaps 50%.
  23. THE DEAN MACHINE wrote " when I read Phillip risings post " it looks like doubling up is here to stay" I just felt like another kick in the ball for fans ,where is our voice ? We don't seem to matter and I think it's just wore me down" I can only agree that this " We don't run speedway for the sake of the fans" seemingly attitude from the BSPA and particularly from Buster as the Chairman. It's certainly worn me as a fan down to the point where I don't want to go to watch any more live in the stadium - in the UK. IF the BSPA do are about the fans then they need to find a much, much more positive way of interacting with and involving them.
  24. If that were the case -that it is "just" a re-occuring generation phase speedway is going through, why are there noticeably lower crowds at many ( the majority perhaps ?) of UK tracks. There is a very small, next generation of fans and it is this failure to entice new younger fans ( 20s or 30s ) in reasonable numbers that is the real problem. Of course the play offs will attract a lot of fan fever but just like rider averages, we need to count crowds as an average over the season. The BSPA tinker with rider averages but have made little effort to pump up the crowd levels.
  25. Well why not say so up front when the match was announced. Buster has so little understanding of how other people think or react.
