Championship Rider Final 24/09
waytogo28 replied to SCB's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
It was long, long ago that the BSPA had any respect for fans or gave any consideration to their opinions or concerns. -
The BSPA are daft enough to run the "dramatic all or nothing" matches when they know full well that the relegated team will not go down and the promoted club will not come up if they don't want to. Let's hope it's quietly forgotten.
-
Seems like a lack of confidence in promoters all round then. Not only in what they have done to the sport but what they are likely to do. If they do not have the clear headed thinking that is required to "save the sport" ( IF that is possible) , they should employ someone who does possess those skills. Otherwise it's game over in two or three years. That is the only test of what they intend to do - increased attendances.

theblueboy wrote" So yes, I do think they are monkeys. Nothing changes. Shambolic governance at all levels, which are well documented and discussed ad nauseum on this forum, yet promoters, and I believe from previous comments you have made you have been one, continue to fiddle whilst Rome burns. Promoters are the cause of every single problem within speedway, not the customer, however, promoters continue to treat us all with contempt." Hurray! Someone writes it truly as it is. When the Promoters sit among the smoking ruins of the sport of speedway with maybe half a dozen viable clubs there will be nothing to rejuvenate. The fanbase is so eroded now that when that last happened within speedway there was still enough fan goodwill to re-build with, but the monkeys are still fiddling while Rome burns ( or is that diddling? ). They will, however when sitting by the burning embers of what was a great sport beloved by hundreds of thousands of supporters, bemoan " we put it on but the fans turned away from our best efforts". But we will know who is really at fault.

Indeed, but cracking ideas are not normally the currency the BSPA deal in. Let's just hope that they do not give fixture planning role to the plonker who did it this season.

2018 Grand Prix Venues
waytogo28 replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I should hope not or you could ink in a One From Three Polish World Champion for 2018. -
Agree, but would be prepared to pay more for a better quality product. Up to a maximum of a tenner for something like the quality of the Swedish coverage on Premier Sports. I never saw the Bet365 coverage so I have no idea of what sort of quality it was or how basic. I can't argue with that thinking but if we continue as we are there will not be enough fans passing through the gate to make speedway viable anyway ( at a goodly number of tracks ). The sound of the 2018 tinkering and "big names" back ( covered by sponsors ) such like a backward step especially if the price was upped again. If that is the BSPA final throw of the dice then they have not beeb listening to fans, who prefer other changes.

Relegation And Promotion Play Offs
waytogo28 replied to flagrag's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
No. Well it could be done but "retirement" or "injury" is too easily fiddled - as we know already. There would need to be very strict rules which the promoters will not vote for I suspect. Look at Josh Auty ( no fiddling ) but he retired in frustration and then has a great second half of the season after he comes out of retirement. -
One problem is that even if you are very, very good at something ( as Robert Lambert is at riding a speedway bike) you often want to be better or even aspire to be The Best. Striving for perfection does bring a lot of pressure from within yourself, if you have that sort of personality.

I and many more are up for Pay Per View, why is it so difficult to set this up in the UK? I do not expect fun broadcast quality, so what's the problem?

STEVEHOLS54 wrote " No of course not. Its one of his riders so he wants it to disappear with nobody hopefully noticing it." And that is what Buster loves to call and repeatedly uses as a tactic " put it behind us " NOT sweep it under the carpet as that would be, well , quite openly scandalous BUT if you " put it behind you" , well, that is a sensible thing to do as you can move on, start all over again etc etc etc. In fact you can roll out the " Same Old, Same Old Speedway" nicely re-packaged and ready for the err 1980s. Never mind that we have moved on around 40 years. No one will notice. What he forgers is that fewer and fewer people care.

Relegation And Promotion Play Offs
waytogo28 replied to flagrag's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Unlikely to be required or staged because 2018 seems just about signed, sealed and then due to be delivered. Leicester stay "up" and other "lower" teams join them in whatever the "top" division is called. Yes I do. But it may be only two joining those already there because of set race nights which seem to be a done deal.. -
Yes Please a Christmas Wish.

And Glasgow - if geography is not against that possibility. And don't rule out Lakeside yet. -
Rob McCaffery wrote " Why can't we just enjoy speedway and enjoy a night out without obsessing on how 'meaningful' it is." That is at the core of speedway's current problems in the UK. Not enough people enjoy a night out at the speedway or even consider it as an option. That is other than what is left of the die hard fans. To the general public speedway is invisible and even stock car racing is more talked about and considered as an enjoyable night out.

Does anyone know the pay rates offered ( and paid ) on Sat. night? If it was not vastly better than for the Fours at Peterboro I am amazed at how many top riders they attracted. Shared BSPA events no longer have the prestige they once had within a sport, which has shrunk dramatically. The Cardiff round of the GP is the only place we will ever see such a world class lineup again in the UK.

Bewley may turn out to be as good as Lambert, as he clearly shows he has a racing brain and their ability at the same age was quite similar. But they are the two really outstanding talents of this era. I hope that Lambert is in the Stars 2018 team as he has even more to show of his top level ability. It is very concerning as to why he withdrew from the PLRC and he should be more open about it. I hope it is not that he is turning his back on the BSPA / UK yet. Obviously he is likely to follow the money to Poland ( who wouldn't !) as that is where the bulk of his earnings will come from over the next decade. The current serious problems in Sweden may not make it such a definite destination for him ( or any top rider ) but the prospective earning level for top riders is no better in the UK ( and may be worse ).

I sincerely hope that this is possible, but does the "right leadership" exist within the BSPA - I fear not as their track record is abysmal on promoting speedway as a credible sport. The decline in support has reached critical levels, not just at Workington. Why would new supporters stay after witnessing 15 mins of on track action - with only four or five of them of real interest or excitement. And all presented in an often shambolic, amateur fashion.
-
So, virtually all of us see it this way, why is it so difficult for the BSPA to also see it? The sport will go nowhere other than down the pan until they do. And riders need to catch on too or they will have a lot of very expensive kit sitting in the garage unused.
-
Because anything goes in the same old, same old BSPA run speedway. We just have to take it or leave as nothing will change.

Can't see Buster having his own licence suspended by the SCB.
