Will the premiership start on time?
waytogo28 replied to tellboy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
A top level sport has very large numbers of people whp pay to watch it and is constantly under the national media spotlight. Speedway has neither of those things. It struggles to be a minor level ( stable ) sport, With an estimated 30,000 to 50,000 maximum of active paying supoorters it struggles to compete with the popularity of .... even, beetle drives. -
I am sure they have looked at it carefully and decided that UK speedway is grinding to a halt here for at least three months. With No income ( or very little ) it will be chaeaper to live "at home" - even with the cost of flying back again IF the season gets underway later in the summer.
-
I'm not sure. Don't true fans send in their ticket value, as a donation and a Thanks for all the promoter's effort? And what about the fuel costs you have saved ( not to mention a burger and chips worth! ). Now THAT's a True Fan? T.I.C.

Don't think there will be a domestic league of any kind this year unless it begins in July ( conditions permitting ). I don't think there will be a GP season either unless that also starts late and is a shortened version. -
Then you have riders like Nico Covatti saying that he and Paco C. need to fly in and out of Italy ( and into other Eurpean countries ) many times each season. If you believe that is going to be possible now ( and for at least the next three months ) you are misguided. No rider is going to be allowed to do that. These are not "normal" times. It is an emergency situation.

There is only one functional decision making role at a Buster owned club. -
And then of course, those handful of people are capable of infecting another handful of people in another crowd or on the bus or in the pub etc. That is how an epidemic works. Every infected person is capable of passing it on and very likely will do. The danger is in close contact in whatever setting.

Plenty of evidence there of the pettiness that exists at the top level of speedway. No hope I feel for concern for minorities such as the disabled or those with mobility or other BB issues. -

If that is true then he / she is very unlikely to be able to pour oil on troubled waters of any kind ( or have any interest in doing so ). -
I too was there all day on Saturday -mostly to see the new generation of UK speedway riders ( and some were truly exceptional ). It was a well organised and very intersting day - the 2 Brothers Stunt Team were excelllent. However on the attendance it sounds like VERY rose tinted glasses were counting, as I estimated there were less than a well supported regualr speedway match! 1.500 tops and that in great weather for the time of the year.

Were I able to prostrate myself in prayer that that would come about I would. And although "Nothing is impossible with God" those who listen only to Mammon rarely listen to His directions. Free will exists especially for the Management of Peterborough Speedway! -

Too high an expectation for speedway management in most cases and in this one definetly so. Effort, consideration and communication! No an edict is an edict. -
Sadly, in one way, that is how it was at The Dirt Track Show last weeeknd at King;s Lynn. I hugely enjoyed the brilliant new young generation of speedway riders ( Oh Max Perry! ) and the 2 Brothers Stunt Show 9/10 on Saturday, but I was the only person in one part of the Disabled seating. And no one was with two or thteee metres. But a very poor turn out in good weather conditions.

At least for 3 - 4 months this will be a real problem and rightly so. We do not need any further reasons to stay away from meetings. Any rider or mechanic etc bringing in the virus could have a devatating effect on the elderly fanbas of UK speedway in case of infection. I know several supporters who have multiple health problems ( including myself ).

They have been in touch with me and I confirmed that I am willing to speak with them. Waiting for them to get back to me. Literally as I typed this they have got back to me! -
Please don't "invest" it in speedway Ronnie! The only person to have made money out of it in the last 25 years is his brother. Withour title sponsors it would have long gone bust.

My young lady lives and works in Hong Kong and they have a total - so far of ...100 infections. The UK will catch that up over the weeknd! The most recent problem in Hong Kong was an infected Brit flying in and then catching the train to Shenzhen while infected and merrily infecting Hong Kongers and Chinese people alike. Straight into quarantine there. Which we have never bothered to do so far at UK airports!. At the HK airport - less risk than Heathrow!
-
A well written obituary for someone who never makes any kind of a risk assessment. A life lived withour a care in the world.

Limit tickets to 5,000 for SON and don't allow any Italian riders, mechanics or officials ( sorry Armando ) and you should be OK. Not too many domestic matches ever draw anywhere near 5,000 ( except for the playoffs on a very good night ). and Except for that very optimistic person counting at Swindon, where there are usually close to that figure it is claimed.
-
Spot on! It was far better, less predictable racing rather than a first and second bend melee and - well, that's it! All over bar dodging stones coming your way from the riders following each other round and hoping to gate better next time.

Most importantly of all, I suspect that Cook believes he is on the way down and in speedway confidence and self belief is everything. -

They follow utterly and remorselessly the Chairman Mao style of management. Do as you are told.
