Crowds will never recover substantially at KLS while Buster in is Total Control - as he is. He has no empathy with present day fans and is stuck in the " I was a fan, so I must be right" mode of thinking. Pity because he built up an excellent stadium facility which other sports might yet flourish in - but not speedway racing.
-
Just let it go bust, as it will if it continues to be run in the way it has been for 20 years and then let's enjoy the UK based semi pro racing that will survive in a few places. Maybe, just maybe speedway can then re-build itself in the UK. It can't do that with the current promoters to whom "everything is hunky dory and even better with the cream of riders enticed back". Blind leading the blind.

Grand Central wrote " It is difficult to see what is different in giving a page over to a one-sided rant by Mr Gordono this week to giving Peter Collins a similar platform, without counter-argument, just two weeks prior. And yet that article was almost unanimously judged to have been a flawed journalistic piece and an editorial mistake to publish in that way," On & On & On this sad saga goes. David Gordon and Chris Morton brought about the magnificent stadium and track that is the NSS. But they were unable to navigate successfully and on a sound financial basis, their first season there. They were inept in that respect and are extremely unlikely to recoup a penny from the debacle that was of their own making. Some will never believe or accept that I know.

More than likely because if you believe that all in the garden is rosy - you can sing the song together _ "Why worry" We changed something vital like the helmet colour and the crowds will hurry back - we might even have to delay the start to get them all in! Creme de Menthe thinking comes to mind and that is the right colour.

I agree with you entirely and can only add that the quality of any Chief Executive determines the way the whole ship is run. Well or badly. Unfortunately the Deputy Chairman is no better nor more capable. If there are more effective administrators within the BSPA they seem to have been happy to let Chapman & Godfrey rule the roost for a few years in the vain hope that their policy making can turn the sport around in the UK. Another season will tell us if the confidence of fellow promoters was misplaced or not.

He is excluded for a"tapes offence". They lump all such crimes together.

ccr? said" Speedway must be the only sport that hasn't managed to harness tv for the good of the sport. Take it or leave it could be right but there are those in the BSPA who believe that televised speedway is actually detrimental to the sport here" Which shows that the dinosaurs are comfortably ensconced at the BSPA! A GP rider is going to cost each club £3k to £5k per match. And it can only be vanity that makes promoters who employ them for 2018 believe they will add even enough fans to cover the basic cost of their wages ( without the add ons ) i.e. around at least 250 new or woo'ed back customers. Seems very unlikely.

A genuine question - when was this meeting / at which point in the season?
-
You can bet on at least two.
-
A large majority of those with BT I should imagine. I will be if things turn out that way.
-
We can only wait and see. Hopefully you are right and I am wrong. But the story of the last 20 years does not indicate an upswing in UK attendances.
-
Not to mention penny pinching in the extreme. Especially if you expect the rider to be a part of the reason fan's are going. No doubt one of the reasons why some clubs have folded.
-
Like yourself and many others I would like to see one big league and believe it could play a significant part in reviving UK speedway. But it does seem as if that is not going to be the way the BSPA are going. They still believe that Big Names will Plump Up the terraces. It's failed before and will fail again if that is what does come out of Tenerife. The return of Iversen to King's Lynn will not do the trick for example.
-
Nothing on the KLS website as to if Mr Brundle is now a co-promoter and who will represent the Stars in Tenerife. OR will Buster have to wear two or three hats there?

What Would You Change In Speedway Next Season?
waytogo28 replied to 4thbender's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Please NO more of the same guest starring for both teams in a two legged cup final ( as with Scott Nicholls this season ). Way beyond credible. -
I know it will prove to be a false dawn ( yet again ). The only way is down - watch this space 12 months on.
-
"Bold" is an enormous perhaps unrealistic expectation? These are very sensible ideas that should be discussed urgently by the BSPA - but, will they be? Will we see the Agenda, assuming there is one?
-
They are all very busy. Planning the "New Dawn' of UK speedway for 2018. To make things simpler, the new Direct To Your Brain Service will tell all fans IF the meeting is on. With a live count down from 6 hrs before the Tapes Up time. All part of the planned Stay In Touch With Supporters service.
-
GRW wrote " I sometimes wonder who will replace us on the terraces when we become too old to attend anymore " We all know the answer. No-one. It will be Game Over within five years for UK speedway. The dinosaurs died out and so will speedway fans.
-
He is the only man to have made a profit on his involvement in UK speedway this century. East End blagger or blackguard?
-
Ah well, yes it is us "dinosaur " fans who do complain about speedway not being what it used to be. But it obviously isn't or the terraces at KLS and elsewhere in UK speedway would be bulging with fans in the 20 - 40 age range. Conspicuous by their absence and all we can see are a number of disgruntled old boys " who know nothing of today" ( in the eyes of some ). All that is left is the remains of the 70s & 80s hordes, giving up their pensions more and more grudgingly to watch very poor VFM racing. The future of UK speedway is not safe in the hands of the BSPA who are dinosaurs themselves.
-
If that turns out to be true of the BSPA AGM then they will be counting the cost of another downward turn in average attendances across the UK this time nest year. KL will be less than 1,000 average next season if it is to be "more of the same" in 2018. Maybe the sponsors will be contributing more so that the paying turnstile total is less important.
-
A clear and simple answer to this would be a good start for the BSPA in becoming more open and accessible to fans - if that is what they want?
-
All ex riders should be admitted to the club they rode for ( the one they rode most matches for or ONE they nominate now - perhaps where they now live ) as at Berwick. But it should be for the rider only , no significant other, no old mates, no mechanics, no ex-promoters and no ex-sponsors. As things are now in UK speedway, everyone else should pay ( unless at the discretion of the current promotion ). Seems fair and reasonable to me. I hugely respect Peter Collins the rider but if he wants a long list of "others" it is not realistic.
