King's Lynn vs Leicester KO Cup 2nd leg 16-05-2018
waytogo28 replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Last year we were told that 24 hours before the match, was all the notice we needed for team changes. I can see Cpl. Jones dashing around the stadium shouting "Don't panic, Don't panic" followed by the team manger and other club officials. When you read that Peter Kildemand is being released by Poole because of 9 future clashes with Danish fixtures it's not easy to not panic! Love him or loathe him Matt Ford is no mug. Maybe not all three of our Danes will be required for all of those? Fingers crossed. Nothing can anyway be put on the website until after Buster returns from the Grand Prix to impart his seal to it in a royal manner. All kinds of natural ( and unnatural ) events wind , rain, snow, fog etc could intervene and postpone the match if there really were to be 6 riders missing from the two teams. -
And seem to find it difficult to change in how they deal with fans ( to get them on side )
-
It certainly will. If there truly has been a "revolution" at KLS and they are doing everything differently and better we should get the team on Monday and not 18 hours before the event ( because Niger Pearson was always too busy). After all there is an house media specialist now and any team bookings for guests need to be made in advance ( don't they?) when we know they are needed well before the night.

Anxiety at whatever level is relatively easily managed ( I know from years of experience ) with a combination of medication and therapy, I am not sure which medication is compatible with professional motorsport but I am sure that CC must be aware of this. It cannot be used as an excuse for poor performance ( if that happens ) IF the correct steps of medication ( where permitted ) and talking therapy are taken. Lets hope that CC is being professional about managing his condition as well as his performances on track. I am a big fan of what he is capable of on track and want to see him conquer his condition at the times when it is most intrusive.

Fixed race nights... early indications!!!

Fully agree with that. I was writing very tongue in cheek. And if the above ideas can't turn around / save speedway, then nothing can. It would be easier to work with standardised 250cc bikes as nothing more powerful is required. But of course the "powers that be currently, just won't even consider such changes. -

Racing for position ( and points ) in a race were much closer and in the vast majority of races. -

That knocks the theory that, seeing speedway live on TV "too often" has been the cause of the emptying terraces here, completely on the head then. I don't think Poland is SO very different a culture to the UK. -

Perhaps they should try a different and even better marketing ploy ( that sometime works elsewhere ). Seated tickets to be £50 and standing £25. It could then be sold as something exclusive and up market. Well they have tried everything else! -

In my opinion there definitely isn't. And will not be until the sport has collapsed in on itself, black hole style, in the UK. The BSPA and a number of others really seem to believe that"there is not much wrong with it" and carry on regardless. Foolishly thinking that the next rule change or re-naming will bring a flood of new fans, sponsors and loadsa money! -

The BSPA Chairman has previously stated that attendance figures prove nothing. Perhaps when you add up the takings they do? -

Got to be one of the ways forward, as rider's names ( whoever ) on the team sheets seems to do little to "bring them in". Standardised 250cc bikes and handicap races should also be tried in an effort to make the sport more interesting and attractive to new supporters. -

Soon then, we can expect to see all those GP stars ( on at least £5k per meeting ) who will attract another 2 or 300 fans ( fingers crossed ). Next downward step in UK speedway would be made easier if they were allowed to pick and choose their meetings ( any 3 in a season minimum say ) but hang on that rule already exists " in the best interests of UK speedway". No problem. -
We know what that means - the kiss of death.
-
If the BSPA don't go down something like this route, to totally rebuild the sport, instead of staring extinction in the face, speedway will be extinct.
-
No. And that demonstrates how little will change overall in how things are done. Promises made are easily broken.

I thought that this was THE rule that trumps all others and allows for referees / promoters / a fan who stopped going in 1999 to decide " what is in the best interests of British speedway". They have been doing this for at least 20 years now and the result is - well, we all know that! -
More BSPA "madness" IF the BT matches are not on for £10. Another lost opportunity if it's more because a large number of fans now have BT ( as I do ) and I prefer to watch it on TV. And, unless you advertise it well in the local area how would you get in a lot of newbies?
-
That is their best collective skill - cooking or even cocking up things. Why announce the technological breakthrough ( ha ha ) of a live stream broadcast and then fail totally to even mention that it's been cancelled! If it was cancelled. perhaps they just forgot? I hoped it would lead to other events being made available at a reasonable cost. The BSPA must be preparing to move into the 21st century ( in a few years time )

Interestingly, in a very recent match report the best of the 250s were recording times the equal of the 500s ( even when ridden by classy, senior riders ). Are they standardised bikes? Are they significantly cheaper to buy and run? Race times are not anyway the best way to illustrate the quality of a race as we know. We need to bring costs down and this could be one way. But yes, we need to isolate ourselves and run the sport in a way that attracts new UK fans ( including handicap racing if necessary ) Whatever you charge for a match it needs to be 15 heats of decent races and with at leat half of them exciting races. At the moment much of what you see is, sadly, a boring procession. -

Preferably - a double header with two different teams to race against. If not you could have a double header V Rye House and V Rye House ( and two weeks later the same again ) in the summer is a good idea but carefully plan the opposition to make it interesting. -

I am always happy to pay for raceable but not for rideable. Others with more disposable income may feel differently of course. -

Even if it is on, I have little eagerness to watch a match where there is little prospect of racing as opposed to riding.
