Yes but the coronavirsu deaths are contuniung to soar daily as the peak is reached and could easily match Italy ( sure to go over 1,000 a day IMHO ) and will easily pass those you are talking awbout.

Will British Speedway Survive ?

In my opinion there will be NO UK speedway until August at the earliest. If there were to be any in the second half of July we would be very blessed. -

No way will the UK speedway season run in June. Possibly beginning in August but more likely September. -

And it will be that "fixed in stone " attitude that will see UK speedway as we know it, fail to survive. Lack of flexible, positve thinking is what has led it to be at a very low ebb, pre-coronavirus. And if that continues it's Game Over! "My way or the highway" stances from the previous leadership was what accelerated the decline in the UK. -

Can't see it being paid now. No matches - no cash most likely, as it will have been tied up in a contract set by Eurosport and not the BSPA. I also don't believe it would have anyway trickled down to "lower" clubs. -
There is a very faint cahnce that in Septemebr and October we might see some "taster" racing to whet our appetites for a 2021 season. That will see fewer clubs coming to the tapes next year.

Dinosaurs - that perennial favourite of children and families have fallen out of favour Brian, with The Powers That Be within UK speedway and there is little enthusiasm ( it appears ) to see elderly, grey haired old un's staggering to their place on the terraces and needing to use the loo more often. It doesn't also seem to matter that we have been handing over our cash for 50 years plus. The speedway sporting hierarchy appears to have written them off. But, I am happy to see the old un's put to one side ( to some extent ) if it means the healthy survival of the sport in the UK. But there should always be a concession for the elderly who contributed to the days when promoters took shed loads of money home with them. -
I recently emailed saying that I am happy to renew my subscription, but asking if I could pause it until the just before new season ( this year or next year ) begins, but I have heard nothing.

I understand the idea of marketing it at the over 50s but I suspect that will get nowhere - or certainly not very far. I have just joined the over 70s and been a spedway fan since birth - taken by my parents and not that interested until a hero - My Hero emerged at Norwich. Ove Fundin. THEN I was interested in the racing and the results. That interest has lasted more than 60 years - althgough getting weaker as the "first away invariably wins" became ever more obvious ( and boring ). Even I now find the dated and rough and ready watching environment to be unappetising, Rubbish low quality food & drink - but still expensive is all the fare offered .Add to that, the sad quality of the P.A. and interviews that might be interesting but you cannot hear if they are or not. At least they would fill in the overlong unneccssary time gap between races ( if they tuirned out to be interesting ). Promoters or club owners should try looking at it through the eyes of a new or regular supporter. "What do you think of that - be honest", little chance of hearing that request - as feedback if not dripping with enthusiasm is swatted away. As the racing has become less appealing and thrilling for me , the environment comes under more scrutiny! Regardless of how much of a turn off it is to the over 50s - market it to a much younger family and teen audience sector. It will either turn away us old uns ( or IF the racing is better it will still pull us in grudingly -which does not matter if it does attract that younger group in decent numbers ). Even without Covid 19 attrition in the 60 plus ranks, they will not be there so much longer. Re-structure it considerably and sell if diofferently to a new market that might ensure that domestic UK speedway does survive and even thrive! That younger market needs more than is on offer at the moment, as if you can get them in once, I fear many would not bother to return, given the state of what we see at the moment. -

That has certainly been the case for all of this century, which is about when the clubs began not to push things as well as they could locally. Under Buster they turned to relying on social media which is not going to work, unless you can get Justin Bieber to go regularly and tell his 100,000,000 plus followers about the joys of speedway racing! -

Thinking of King's Lynn - I believe that they could pull 2.000 on a Saturday night with the right kind of team format and visiting team variety to make the proposed scheme viable. Providing that the quality of racing on track makes it a VFM night out for the supporters. Riders have a major part to play in making the racing worth watching and rebuilding the sport in 2021. -

Hardly likely if the same people that let it run down are running it after the Covid 19 crisis is over. -
That will be the acid test for speedway - do they want anything that is put before them or not? It is not 1947 anymore and the possibility exists that the die hard support for speedway ( especially in the UK ) will shrink considerably

Oh Ah! I remember when you could throw a postage stamp over the four riders just afore they crossed the finish line. Thass why there aren't hardly anybody going to watch nowadays - a course I mean last season as we aint going to have this season. -
You can also use your fingers to wipe your bottom when there is not a toilet roll in sight, but a crumpet in your hands is a thing of wonder!

I hope they are wearing haz mat suits to pack the sweets? That's how it spreads - give someone your last rolo and Sayonara!

That was my debut as an excited 14 year old on the coach from Norwich. Oh the bliss of seeing Our Man win before our very eyes. Nothing ever beat that except seeing him do it again. -
All right Old Ace - I may be the only one who wonders. Which ticket kiosks , Where?

Step forward Barry Bishop - kneel and Arise Sir Barry. And onwards to the deserved speedway sainthood status. Please foward some DNA and I will attempt to clone 50 Promoters, who can work together to ensure the speedway racing does survive. -

To Peter Collins - remember just how you were adored by so many and are still olved by them, for what you did and how you did it. Pure class for sure, a true speedway racer. -
Times do indeed change. No-one now has any savings to fall back on for a rainy day. I don't think we can blame austerity for that.

Did you go with Chequers Travel in 1976? I remember it so vividily, the whole trip and having to buy zlotys before you entered the country. The only thing I found worth buying in the shops was quite good quality monochrome photograph paper. Stupendous Peter Collins effort! The whole trip by coach was £41. -

And mine too. Especially memorable as we crowded round his car when he arrived and he got out on my side and stood on my foor in the crush. True story and it was his left foot too! I have washed it since, but not for quite a while afterwards. I was 18 and at the peek of my speedway madness. I got a lift over from Norwich ( where I then lived ) to join the King's Lynn coach ( and sing The Hairs on a..... ) Those were the days! I remember coming to blows with fans from the distant North who supported Eric Boocock. As a child at Norwich , taken by my speedway crazy parents - on the back of their bicycles, I never really took much notice until Ove arrived there and became my first speedway hero. -
I would like to mourn the passing of Stars superfan and season ticket holder - David Mckuen, who passed away last week after a short illness. David was devoted to the Stars and attended every year since they opened ( and also the Linnets football team ). He was a kind and generous man who went out of his way to give me a lift to Stars matches. If you knew him on the first bend terraces, join me in a There You Go friend salute. R.I.P. David. God Bless.

Will the premiership start on time?

Great and hopefully it will happen here and hopefully it will still cost five pfennigs to get in. Even I could afford it then.
