As has been suggested elsewhere on the forum, that the number of fans paying to get in is irrelevant to the finances of some clubs and hence the falling crowds is not a problem - is there some truth in that at KLS? With sponsors and alternative income streams are "crowds" unnecessary at Saddlebow Rd anymore? Is that why the promotion do not feel the need to reach out to supporters? It seems incredible and tragic if that is the case, but some of us get the impression that it may be so.

The continuing decline of Speedway

The art of "spin" aka "The Emperor's New Clothes" syndrome. Hell's Bells - All is Well. -
Buster keeps his team building thoughts to himself. Is he an inscrutable, much-maligned genius or someone who cares little for what the supporters hope for and prefer? We are led to believe that Brundle, Allitt and Chapman spend countless hours locked in boardroom discussions sharing their opinions and juggling the many team options. Long may it be so, even when the terraces are bare. Will sponsors also disappear?

The writing on the wall has been in Very Big Letters for at least 3 - 5 years. But no-one in "power" seems able to read it and act on it. How much further do gates at every club need to fall before they get the message? How low can average gates fall before it collapses in on it self like a Black Hole? Fewer punters must result in even lower club incomes and crucially fewer interested sponsors.

Of course, I too don't want to see KLS die, I followed the Stars at Norwich before KLS opened but there is currently much wrong with speedway, and at King's Lynn, which fans could have a constructive input to. One main reason I retired to King's Lynn was to not have to travel to see the Stars ride. But I was young and foolish then! I have advocated that on here and emailed the suggestion - politely - to the club in the past and of course received no answer. I would love to join a group of fans who have concerns ( NOT to rant and rave ) but the impression is that Buster is not open to the idea. Why doesn't Robin Brundle meet with fans who have concerns, if Buster does not feel able to?

Just be straight up and honest please, rather than defensive and implying everything in the garden is rosy. I haven't' gone this year ( before last Monday) because of there not being a full team.

There has been some suggestion on here that fans with strong views on how their local club is run might be banned. I have never been offensive and have offered many more constructive comments than critical ones. It would not make much difference if I was banned by King's Lynn Speedway because I no longer care much if I go or not. I went last Monday to embrace my current Hero Robert Lambert and get a photo with him and the British Champion's trophy. Is that the action of a speedway supporter who doesn't care? Three years ago I cared desperately that Robert would stay on with the Stars, having watched him start in the National League. But the decisions taken by the promotion over the past few years have sadly dulled my enthusiasm for the club. Their apparent lack of interest in and involvement with the fans has seen many others walk away as well. I still have my Supporters Club membership card from 1968 and that prompted me to re-join 50 years on, perhaps as a kind of farewell. Rock On Ruthless, wherever you may ride in the future, I'll be cheering as usual.

Sounds like the damage is done. And does it help to mention "whether he means it or not" re an apology? Bit pointless, if it's not sincere it's worthless.

I agree with you to some extent but, the list of defunct clubs is extensive.

I suspect that one of the concrete rules that you sign up for as a Promoter ( with the BSPA ) is Say Nothing, Tell No-One, play the We Have Nothing to Add card at all times. Far, Far stricter than the Magic Circle! Fans! Who needs them! -
There will be several clubs not running very soon, so less riders needed. Sad but true.
-
I suspect that that is a powerful, often heard/felt feeling which is a major part of the decline of UK speedway. It has been for me. And I know for a number of others too.

Petulance - that is only reason why KK scored 2 from 4 rides on Monday at KL and then this majestic display. That level of poor temperament is what is limiting KK's return to the highest level. He was shameless and arrogant on Monday. -
What I can't understand is even if the goalposts were moved after the Danish riders were all signed, why not try running on Mondays with a full team instead of those Weds, with several riders missing? Why could not Buster or Brundle told us that that is what had happened and we would be more sympathetic / understanding? No-one has talked to the fans any more than in previous years. Suddenly a Monday was tried ( even running against an England football match ) and a crowd of nearly 1,000 was achieved. Could have drawn a bigger crowd on earlier Mondays. with a full team, if they had tried. Poor tactical thinking is what it comes across as. A much more symbiotic relationship with the KL supporters could have been achieved, which costs nothing.

Race Nights - What do you think so far?
waytogo28 replied to Trevor's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Close down all tracks for a couple of years and SO many people will protest and sign petitions, join street marches demanding the return of speedway racing in the UK. The national Press and the media will swarm all over it and every track can then re-open to bumper crowds. In the No Racing Era many of the problems of today could be solved with bright ideas for holding the hordes of new fans ( standardised bikes, crisply run meetings etc ). Now it's just an old habit for many, but in a bright New World after the Great Quietness people would really Want To Come. And riders & Promoters would realise just how important fans really are. -

I am at this very moment kowtowing to the EOES in deep regret for my frivolous suggestion. I do hope that I am not now banned from entering. -

One of British speedway's little quirks I suspect. I can't even blame the promoter over this one because the venue is so strictly controlled. In a niche sport, anything can and does happen. -
Very much how I see it too. I was not putting down BMR's efforts. Like you I was trying to highlight why it has all gone wrong, all round ( or it feels like that! ) I too don't want the past but want us to take the best elements from it to build a sustainable future. There is no point in saying us, because 20 or so people hold the future of UK speedway in their hands. On the evidence of the past five to ten years they are not going to be able to develop the future, that most fans want ( will support ) in the UK. Hopefully what emerges from the rubble of the present set-up will be something worth watching that might attract a new audience.
