2010/11 the beginning of the end

That is a perfect analogy. And we all know what eventually happens to fish out of water. They can go on living or appearing to live for quite a long time. Someone else on here said we are unlikely to see speedway as it is in the UK beyond 2020. That is probably right. -

Just trying my best to be patient, knowing that they have the best interests of the sport at heart and are actively seeking creative ways out of the crisis the UK speedway faces. -
Sounds ponderous and reflects how in recent years KLS has not been quick off the mark. A remarkable result would be if Robin Brundle could influence the visa issues and enable the club to re-sign Chris Holder. He is hungry now and would be well, " coming home"

What ever happened to team riding?
waytogo28 replied to Thornaby48's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
That is the case and the reason why we see so little of it nowadays. Modern bikes allow for full throttle on or throttle full off. -

So the General Council of the BSPA has met. We await with excitement the Press Release containing the key points in the meeting. Should be good to read. -

It was Gate & Go and so strung out that mostly the others not first or second had clearly no intention of trying to keep up or even give an impression of doing so. 70% from the tapes to the flag. Even Tatum said, "passing is at a premium here". And it was. -

It seems clear that the problem in Poland is not a lack of fans but the ridiculous level of payment they make to riders. At a £1,000 a point even with a 10,000 crowd you barely pay the wages bill. Home & Away. Poles are paying less than £10 to get in, we have been told. -

He just took his idea of what makes a great cycle speedway track and sized it up. Forgot all about speedway being a motorised sport and how they might pass. But then he got so much wrong about how to be a promoter,?didn't he. -
I couldn't quite read that BB. Please make it bigger.

It was a terrible advert for the sport and hopefully, no one stumbled across it channel hopping! Other than three races all, were over by the middle of the back straight first lap. Reinforcement of the old idea of "first away wins". Better not to have these UK league matches on TV if they come across like that! And Pearson went on about the track and stadium being purpose built only a few years ago. A lost opportunity to build a racing track as opposed to a speedway track. At least a reasonable show of faces in the crowd, albeit almost all veteran supporters. -
Make a noise and let me know on the handicapped bench ( nearest to the start ) and I will hobble out with you. There will be NO "apology' or begging to be let back in!

The powers that be in UK speedway have already ignored the customers for years, that is until enough of them walked away to seriously unbalance a few clubs and destroy one. No-one on the forum does want to see speedway cease to exist but their opinions and ideas on the product continue to unheard. I hope this really is a warts and all discussion a la the Cabinet at Chequers. Because the problems of our sport are almost as serious as those of the country.

The lessons that need to be learnt by all members of BSPA are that clubs are truly on the edge of extinction ( as is the sport in the UK ) and an extraordinary AGM needs to be called before the end of the season - with all clubs having a vote on What Next.

I very much feel that way about many riders and 90% do accept that if they are not in a scoring position coming out of the 2nd bend, first lap - there is little point in fighting tigerishly for a point they are unlikely to get. In UK racing on UK tracks that looks to be very much the case from this side of the fence. -
Thank you. Have you double checked that Auty's average doesn't fit? Just kidding!
-
The next AGM will be Titanic-themed and all the promoters will have instruments at the ready. Kazoos and such if nothing else.
-
I am quietly confident that the problem of helmet colours ( and their not staying in place ) will be high on the agenda at the next AGM. And the rule that if your steel shoe comes off you will be disqualified.
-
Aha, I am just beginning to get it. It seems that Auty's average does not fit. Not that I wanted him in the team. Does Eric Riss's fit?

Far more exciting than the average UK speedway meeting and far cheaper to stage. -
I am warming to the idea of a lower number of teams in one big league. It may be the only way forward. The 7 strong Premier League is not pulling in punters and no-one can afford ( or risk ) Swedish style teams.

I thought Oh No! Another poor old disillusioned 65 - 80 years old fan ( just like me ), walking away after 50+ years of watching UK speedway until I read your last sentence. Now I think Oh No! We are in the mire for sure now! -
A sincere Thank You to Buster / KLS . Let's hope that this channel of communication can grow and extend to up to date, honest team matters & signings etc. The refund is a generous offer and the two ambulances at future meetings is re-assuring. Keep the customer satisfied as much as is feasible.
-
I have never believed in positive discrimination. A team place on merit only. Eric Riss for me if it were possible.

I think most of the social media marketing is going to existing speedway fans, as far as I can see. For example, unless you boost your post on Facebook how would it reach new people. Unless the fans have to do it - a new version on "bring a friend"?
