  1. If that is as printed in the programme, his sobriety needs checking daily. Or was it fatigue from all that travelling?
  2. Sounds like a conspiracy to me. Don't water the track. Cover houses and local cars in dust. Speedway must then close down and no reason for a new stadium at all. Hmmm.
  3. Pointless in having live speedway on TV of that quality. Any casual viewer who stumbled across it might wonder how much the people were paid to stand and watch it.
  4. Even more interesting at KL is that the changes of machinery show us how they play very different roles ( with their attachments ) in the track prep. As well as the enormous amount of material shifted from the pile and packed down at the start. There is no shortage of interest for the supporter to enjoy in this respect.
  5. For two meetings! And then the idea was dropped, I was told because it interrupted Buster's last-minute track prep. No announcement made. Part of the KLS "keep the fans in the dark" policy.
  6. Over those 69 years, they should have had lots of practice at track preparation. Maybe the very hot conditions in the area have been few and far between over the years, but there must have been some similar days. If it can be done on the same night and hugely better, somewhere not so far away, what went wrong. The fact that it was on TV and a kind of "showpiece" seemed of disinterest to the promotion.
  7. That IS exactly how it was and nine or ten tapes to flag heats makes a borefest. Winning the points with TTF is pointless and will not attract a new generation of fans. Which is what UK speedway needs if it is to survive. 1,200 were there max. and could have been less than 1,000 - NOT enough to survive and thrive.
  8. I was gobsmacked by how close the houses were to the stadium and cannot believe that a motorsports stadium can have a future in that location. I cannot see there being a 70th season unless the race track can be located elsewhere in the area.
  9. Buster needs at least 12 hours for the track prep. It's not done in half an hour at KL you know ( except once or twice during the match ). he often tells us that he has not even had time for a break since dawn, so unless he does where can they fit in a practice? As for this what is it called, " win at all costs", this is Norfolk and we are very laid back about winning. And do you have anything to counter The Stars secret weapon - The Stars Anthem? Sung twice before tapes up and once in the interval, that's the Pirates scuppered.
  10. Hey, come on MattK, not all "old" people are minted and I know of more than a dozen ( perhaps 20 ) who have walked away from watching speedway live in the stadium because it IS passe. And past it and old-fashioned and has failed. Failed full stop to engage with it's existing fan base.
  11. Well done! He said he could and that he would and he went out and did it! Prove that he can win races in the GP.
  12. Easy for him to make an extraordinary one-off ruling "in the best interests of the sport".
  13. Now that is REALLY getting into the act and a great sense of marketing - at last. This kind of thematic promotion could be the start of saving UK speedway and bringing hordes of fans ( old and new ) to the terraces. Magic!
  14. Either the weakest of eyes. the tiniest of brains or the least experience of any ratified referee ever ( assuming he was ).
  15. Just wish we knew. All will be revealed sometime tomorrow no doubt.
  16. Oh Yes They Could! And continue to do so.
  17. Nights like that which turn to ashes in your mouth will only make the champagne taste all the more sweeter next time it comes. and it will come and turn into a waterfall of the bubbly stuff. Onwards and Upwards. Good Luck for the Under 21 round. The world is indeed your lobster Robert.
  18. Now that is the best short description of some of the problems that UK speedway has allowed itself to descend into. Read, mark and learn - but few promotions learn from such a simple but vital lesson. I still demand better racing on a regular basis to tempt me into a season ticket or even going to every home match. We need the whole package if we are ever to attract these mythical new fans. Promotions must learn not to be surly and make sure their presentation is far from puerile. But will they? I agree with Pinny that they cannot be losing thousands year on year - unless it was a tax break for their other business ventures.
  19. Pity that now there are so many young British riders coming through that there are fewer and fewer places for them to ride at or earn a living from.
  20. My plea to BT for next Monday at Swindon ( they were never going to change it ) is for Pearson & Tatum NOT to harp on about it being the 69th anniversary because the rest of the world ( well those watching ) will never quite understand what is special about the 69th anniversary. Nothing is special about it unless it is the final season there. In which case say so. Many of us suspect that it is likely to be.
  21. Praise the Lord that there is so much speedway on TV for me to enjoy. Thank you BT, Freesports, YouTube and Canal. I love it and the quality of coverage is awesome. I can see all that happens without binoculars. Just my cup of tea. But I will still go on Monday to see King's Lynn live because my good friend also wants to go.
  22. And except for one or two clubs, that is pretty much the case across the UK. The BSPA should be renamed the BSOA - British Speedway Organisers Association. Or take out the selling / give publicity to - part of the dictionary definition. There never will be "any word from the BSPA" until they say so - it's their ball and they can take it away at any time. They won't say anything about 2019 until their next winter AGM.
  23. Greg H. is famous for smiling and his superb starting technique. He is not known for sharing.
  24. Woffinden should do that but is far from a cert. Lambert to just miss out on the semi-finals. Cook, if he has discovered the set up that works for him, needs to show us that that is the case tonight.
