I agree with this and would add that like some others I believe the ref, was corrupt. He may not have taken money ( of course he may have ) but I feel it was more like, I need to make an example of someone, so why not make the example of benefit to a Polish rider. That kind of corruption. Because three riders should have gone if he was being consistent and in the following race, where it seems riders learned nothing from Woffy's exclusion.

The continuing decline of Speedway
waytogo28 replied to wealdstone's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Not quite as crazy as last season when `Scott rode for both teams in a Final ie in both legs for a different side. That really put me off the sport in the UK. Complete nonsense that can't be taken seriously - although a great race is still magical entertainment ( sadly for the addicts ). Pantomime stuff. -
I am led to believe that "buyer beware" does not apply to an organised event ( show or concert ) where admission is charged and is open to the general public. I have before suggested that someone challenges it in the County Court ( cheapest method of mounting a legal challenge ). It is as someone has posted here already another reason not to go if the weather is at all dodgy - which is what I have done for a number of years. It is one factor in driving fans away instead of attracting them. It is different in the real world, away from the speedway bubble.

Premiership, Championship, what's the difference?

RRR it's good to see that there is some truth in the saying "what goes around, comes around". -
It's amazing how polarised fans views can be because - "The racing there is already pretty processional even when slick. 2 or 3 good races just don't justify my £18" - I agree with entirely - although I have been 3 or 4 times this season, mostly as a "night out" with a friend. On those occasions, it has never justified my £15 ( being long in the tooth, I am a concession ). BUT I could never condone track doctoring even if it were to win, for the first time ever, the top league title. And this is only a semi. No way for me would that be acceptable and I hope that Belle Vue don't do it either. I prefer two matches on two different, but normally prepared tracks where the victory goes to the best team of speedway racers. As it happens without any trick track setups, I believe that the Aces will just shade it. Then I hope that the playoff final, whoever is in it, is also run on decent tracks offering all riders a chance to race on fairly. Better not to be televised if it is to be on trick tracks! Go Lambo Go - All the way for a fair Stars victory. Champions at Last!

It's much more likely to be two leagues. One as per Championship level and the other as per NL without any "superstars" ( those that ride abroad regularly ).

Belle Vue v Somerset PL 5th September, 2018

The only thing that is of concern is that I really don't believe the crowd topped 1.000 ( inc. both stands ) and that is a tragedy. -

I am concerned that "it" ( the lack of pulling out all the stops ) may be catching. Poole came to King's Lynn and were certainly not "stop pulling" and then the Stars are infected and look what happens. Will it be Somerset tonight? -

The winner of such a "doctored tracks" final will NOT be fans, who will yet again be denied seeing serious racing in what at all costs speedway. -
Premiership, Championship, what's the difference?

It's down to the "money men" as to what they will try and they backed away from this a few years ago. Swedish style "star name" teams represent too much of a financial risk for those investing in UK speedway. Only radical re-construction of what is on offer in the UK plus a completely different approach to marketing than is undertaken currently will possibly turn things around attendance-wise. -
The continuing decline of Speedway

My hunch is that little will change with the mooted two league - Championship level & National level - unless only riders who can commit to riding in the UK are used. With NO doubling down and a lower overall admission price especially in the "top" league. Even then without standardised bikes and a much more positive style of marketing, the UK sport cannot grow. And of course weekend racing for those tracks who prefer it. -

What is enough? 7 is failing to attract fans to a majority of those 7 tracks running now. One or two are making enough but they can not ride against each other twice a month - can they? The mooted 14 "top" and 14 "lower " leagues seems much more realistic as it offers variety to existing supporters but I cannot see even that attracting new fans in any serious numbers. Managed decline will continue. -

Quite right in many ways but sadly no-one involved in promoting speedway has the slightest idea on how to turn the clock forward and bring the crowds flocking back either. Some elements of the past slower, less powerful bikes able to be ridden on tracks with grip should produce closer racing and more passing which equals on-track ) excitement, which everyone craves ( especially new fans if they are to fall in love with UK speedway ). The predictable nature of most heats and many matches is what will continue to fail to attract any new fans of any age. -
Lakeside Future In Serious Doubt

This is the most accurate definition I have read re UK speedway at the moment. VFM - dropping close to zero. Agree totally and it is not because of viewing UK speedway from 1950 to 2000 through rose tinted spectacles. The slump of the last 20 years has just gone on and on and cannot be revived without razing to the ground what now exists. -

You are more of a "dinosaur" than me! We have to get with it ( or get out ) Speedway runs from mid-April to mid-September nowadays ( or even mid-August if your team is having a bad season ).
