  1. Let's add "In the now tiny pond of UK speedway, he ho all is well and good". They will go on believing that, as in the old saying " there's none as blind as those that cannot see". And those that cannot bear to listen. As for those people who hardly know speedway from tiddlywinks, how do they think of searching for the Stars website? Few newbies to the sport are likely to do that.
  2. And Yes! Well done, we should all be proud of him too.
  3. However, after taking out Lambert R., Jason Doyle and Max Fricke the other riders are all much of a muchness so they should be able to race well against each other and provide similar racing and passing attributes ( not so quickly of course ) but I see so little eagerness from them to give chase. Not enough dosh or status on offer I suppose, to get them fired up and taking the risks.
  4. If only we could replicate something like this passion and fire to win on UK tracks instead of the invariably pale and uninteresting procession we mostly suffer. Clearly, it is possible to get close enough to pass or be in a position to pass if your opponent makes a mistake ( or you can force an error ) on almost any track. But you have to want to! And not be prepared to just settle for your next chance to make the gate.
  5. It seems likely from what little we know ( and we are always told very little ) that the team went for Lambo's set up from the SoN. As locals have recently explained about the track providing better racing when slick, the track walk should have given some vital feedback to all of them. I agree with Webbo that we have to tell it like it is because the default position is invariably " with our bouncebackability, all will be well next time". So far this season our bouncebackability seems near zero. But to tell it like it isn't, we could be gearing up to do a Poole and nick it in the playoffs.
  6. NKI would be a great change but please don't bring Simon Lambert back into the Stars team. There must be a better option as Simon is certainly not displaying improved form in the CL.
  7. The most enjoyable part was the jostling for a good starting number after the qualifying times were listed. It was interesting for the purist who enjoys riding styles and it was only a little less of an on-track boring spectacle than the average whole match in the PL. Also, it lasted a lot less time than they do and so retained it's interest better I thought. Clearly, the first rider out ( Doyle ) and the first out after the grading ( Zagar ) do have an advantage, however minimal. The time differences were minimal anyway and I bet the three who will take pot luck are not last after the GP is finished. Zagar showed his intelligence by sussing out what you really had to do and smashed it on his single lap.
  8. I too am confident that Lambo will get going soon but no-one ( including himself and his pit team ) should believe that even doing as well as last years is within easy reach. That was a superb year and few young riders can repeat that sort of performance - even Robert Lambert. Onwards and Upwards but perhaps more slowly than many want and expect.
  9. Eer. Is that called "strength in depth" or merely woeful? I wonder how it relates and compares to other team's early averages? Not that I expect you, Bald Bloke to do them all. I guess it must be on the weak side. Disappointingly.
  10. Riders, team managers, promoters and happy clappers thrive on sunshine, wherever it is blown. The Emperors New Clothes Syndrome is the default position in UK speedway. How does that "lift you up" song go? "Give me sunshine". All is well in Buster's world despite two of his three clubs having a lot of unhappy supporters. "Who are they, what do they know" I hear him ask.
  11. Wish I was there! hoping for a Stars victory, even if by the thinnest of margins. Go Lambo Go!
  12. As there is no thread for Aces V Stars - how do people feel it is likely to go?
  13. I should have posted this here - my apologies. The only surprise is that new promoters, who promised a different way of doing things, make the same mistakes ( perhaps knowingly ) as so many before them. Hiding behind dubious excuses that might prove to be lies, is the way to erode whatever support you have gathered to date. Tell the whole truth, tell it promptly and fully and you may well avoid the worst of the fallout. Going the other way is to enter a storm of criticism.

  15. Much of course depends on "who you know" in positions of influence and how long they continue to pat you on the back and say " you can depend on my friend here". When they suddenly drop you, well then you have to dig into the pile of funds you salted away when things last went belly up in your business life.
  16. I am sure that this is a far from difficult test to pass ( that is the impression gained over many years of reading about the way many promoters have operated their speedway business ). Very likely - being able to breathe and showing blood when pricked with a pin. Possibly, in addition, looking good in a blazer might come into account. As for Cookie - it seems that very likely he has not chosen his "battles" ( nor the reason for them ) well.
  17. As it is Buster's money ( we assume ) propping up the Panthers if it goes belly up and flops financially then the egg or whatever that is left on his face is down to the choice of direction that he has taken the club in. What is galling for supporters is his apparent unwillingness to make changes that may break the budget he has settled on. My own feeling is that he will ring the changes within the team in a desperate attempt to prevent the crowd from falling off too badly.
  18. I think that a one league UK speedway sport is much more likely to generate more footfall on the terraces. It may need to be a different structure of who races who in the match format ( to make it genuinely competitive ) But even in a one league UK scenario. the product ie racing needs to be drastically addressed if it is to attract lost supporters ( those still living ) and a new generation of supporters. New supporters are unlikely to put up with around only 3 out of 15 races having any interest for spectators ( after the second bend first time around ).
  19. So if they owe hundreds of thousands of pounds, who is the financial backer and how large are they likely to permit the debts to total before cutting off the finance needed to operate? I am not having a go at how BV or the NSS operate but it sounds dangerously unstable. Are they banking on a UK speedway revival? I just can't see that happening.
  20. How long can they go on running those Big Name lineups on crowds between 1 and 2,000 paying customers?
  21. Wave a magic wand and Buster will own all five of the tracks in the Top UK League ( yes only five teams ) in 2020. Top three into the round-robin playoffs. Fifteen riders in a 'choose your team from" pool and £25 to get in ( No concessions ). UK speedway IS going to get much worse before it gets better. Then some semi-pro matches can be run on an ad-hoc basis to ensure a that a sport similar to what speedway used to be like, continues to exist up until the 2028 Centenary. Or do we now all agree that the centenary is now in 2023 and will be called the Buster Remnants Tournament?
  22. Doesn't matter if you complain or not. Buster can't hear any such nonsense and he knows best. Welcome to Buster's Great Imperial Adventure. He does get one aspect of public relations right though. he says " Don't come if you don't like it" and of course they won't.
  23. And the reason why crowds are dropping everywhere ( other than for local early season derbies ). Dropping now and well below survival levels at a number of tracks in CL & PL. But according to the BSPA UK Speedway is Alive and Kicking - and includes "great racing" - their words not mine. All spin.
  24. We all know that Jason is a fighter, not a rider and with the "withdrawal" of Sneddon he probably thought who the hell is there who would put a decent scrap.
