  1. Shhhh! Don't tell the BSPA or they will try to entice GP riders that way and cut a deal with Poland for it to happen as another "great sport saving idea". It would put thousands on the gate at PL clubs! A la Gerhard engines which by mid season seems to have been forgotten as "the way forward". I wish it were that Robert would do that and put the Stars first but sadly the way of the world is that KL pays the same as most other clubs would for his services and it is not far from home. Plus he knows the track well enough to be able to do the business more often than not from the back.
  2. I think that you want to use those riders who can commit to the number of meetings such a league would wan to run with. I don't see a place for the likes of Holder and Doyle. And only those Aussies at the start of their career and who will commit to the fixtures as their priority. If crowds halved - so be it because that is what is going to happen if we go on as we are now. It's just a slower death of the sport.
  3. Well we will know if all the unnecessary(?) anxiety over the extent of Robert's injury will be clear if he lines up on Saturday and is fit enough to ride as he did in the last Stars home meeting ( where he excelled himself ). If we see a pale shadow of that rider it will bring a further storm of criticism.
  4. A very attractive photo of a happy looking valley. If only we pool our ideas about improving speedway as a spectator sport ( that can still attract new fans ) speedway could look just as happy.
  5. It was very good coverage and we are lucky to have BT taking up the slack after Sky decided to opt out. We can only hope that IF the racing is better than that at Poole, they will continue to cover the sport. We cannot turn all tracks into Scunny, the NSS, Peterborough or Somerset but the BSPA need to sit down at an emergency meeting and decide what can be done immediately to improve track surfaces that will be broadcast. Nearly all the "blazers" will be on display at the World Cup, can't they step away from that enough to see what they can do to make the BT coverage this year, even better? It's a partnership and the £9.99 admission should result in more faces at this season's meetings. Get the tracks in the best shape for racing and that too, could make a difference.
  6. I suggest that the same riders are used for both leagues who race on different nights ( if the powers that be insist on having two leagues ) and a small pool of other riders are used for injuries / retirements etc The troupe of would be league riders should tour as a UK based GP tour to as many tracks as possible. The reduction in costs with less riders should satisfy the pockets of the BSPA and as everyone is doubling up, the furore over that issue vanishes. NO riders who wish to race in Europe should be permitted to race in the new set up. Those who wish to race here will be the first to benefit and riding in two leagues will give them the income level they claim they need. It's no crazier than the system we currently operate and New "stars" would emerge as they do at every level. Clubs could even be linked who run the same 7 riders in two leagues! Say Leicester and Ipswich. Who knows in what direction speedway will move before it disintegrates further?
  7. There is plenty to whinge about how KL is "run" nowadays, whoever you are. Speedway fans are treated poorly all over the place nowadays and the result is showing in the numbers of fans on terraces nationwide. As ye reap.....
  8. Indeed you do! A good example of the lies and Fake News that make up 21st century speedway "spin". There is never a correction or an update issued by the club except in the vaguest of terms.
  9. A real speedway racer at Leicester where I enjoyed his whole hearted. lion hearted efforts whilst I was student there. Those were the days and I was deeply in love with the sport, which entertained me royally at Blackbird Rd. Thank you!
  10. Is there anyone to replace Rossiter with even if he was sacked? Who wants the job? If Rider / Managers are permitted the best option would be to give Woffinden the job - if he wants it. If they finish fourth at King's Lynn it would be better not to to enter next year.
  11. Well if Lambert can do as well as Steve Worrall did last monday it should greatly aid Team GB's World Cup efforts to get to the race off. They only have to beat USA and without Hancock that should be simple enough. The Race off hurdle will be a much more testing one.
  12. Oops I should have posted this here and in BT coverage! I thought it was very reasonable coverage considering it was available after Sky pulled out and BT ARE continuing to offer Live match coverage, while they weigh up next season and beyond ( and it's value to them). It's a cut your coat according to your cloth coverage and speedway's "coat" is pretty threadbare. Great to see a full-ish stadium as casual viewers will not think doubtfully "is it worth going to my local track" and might encourage them to give it a try. If BT insisted on the £9.99p ticket it was an excellent move. Racing - well it illustrated the modern weakness of speedway racing - that in at leat 75% of heats - it is all over after the exit from the second bend ( first time around ), except in the cases of hard charging young guns or the very best of never give up veterans ( 25% of riders ). And even for them passing is a very, very difficult. Track conditions are crucial to them having a better chance of success and on the Poole track they did not have the best of chances to safely have a go from the back even if willing to try.

  14. If it is a broken scaphoid then it is very unlikely to be possible to ride with it strapped up or something. And much as we need him, should he be allowed to take the decision to ride? And surely it won't be just his decision?
  15. Fricke will have to do a LOT better than he did last week at the AFA for BV.
  16. Very little I am afraid, his 'time" has been and gone. You might see the occasional sudden burst that excites the "hope springs eternal" in Ged.
  17. It shouldn't be too difficult for the Stars to pull those points back and win the tie by 2 points. We all know that they are better away, than at home this season. The big question is will it be Michael Lee or Ove Fundin guesting for the Stars. Terry Betts sadly had to decline the booking, I was reliably informed.
  18. Team GB will be fortunate to be second as the Czech boys will do well around the AFA - even if it is a Gate & Go track. And Australia should walk it!
  19. Oh Yes it Is! £9.99p and only £5 for concessions. Kids go Free. At last the BSPA see sense ( or was it BT? ) There should be no excuse for other than a well filled stadium tonight.
  20. IF the track for the WC this week is prepared in the same way ( by the same person ) the racing is likely to be poor VFM and mostly Gate & Go. IF the racing is much better than so far than seen this season, we can only come to the conclusion that PL riders are either not interested in racing for their money or believe that they have no chance of passing the man in front ( and therefore don't make much effort to do so ). This WC match will tell locally based fans quite a lot about what they see week by week at the AFA.
  21. If Buster's stance really is " I'm always right and don't care what you think" then he only has himself to blame if all the hard work he has put into building up the AFA goes down the drain. Or is it true that the speedway racing is much less important to the successful operation of the AFA business than it was 10 years ago? If that is the case, it explains a lot.
  22. That would be of course his sensible choice but to any thoughtful promotion that should rule him out of team place.
  23. Is it £9.99p admission for adults this evening? Is the price for all BT broadcast matches?
  24. There seemed to be nearly 100,000 at the final meeting at The Firs in Norwich when they closed down. I wasn't very old but I do remember crying.
  25. We fans can ask politely, rant and rave on here or do what to influence the BSPA? Do we all all write in to our local promoter to to the BSPA office to get such a thing put on the agenda of a future meeting? Talk to them individually in the bar after a meeting? Perhaps they need a method of fan feedback collection?
