Your Team An What You Expect In 2017....

Agree with all the above, good analysis, lots of people trying to burst the positivity in the witches camp but I think injury free we have every reason to be excited about our chances!! Nico taking a break this winter rather than riding all off season back home (first time he's done this since he came to Europe) too so hopefully man and machine will return feeling fresh and ready for the new season! -
my old chap spoke to chris on saturday about that when getting his season ticket and said that chris was a bit cagey about it not wanting to give too much away but intimated that a challenge with lynn was on the cards.

Spot on completely agree, not one team that you can honestly say yeah definitely fancy us to go and win there! Obviously everyone's going to have different opinions on which teams look the best overall but I think every set of fans will be happy with the team put together to race on their home tracks, away points are going to be hard to come by this year and will be the difference between playoffs and also rans imo -
either as you've suggested alan or perhaps swap newman to 5 and have a powerful 3&4 in schlein and covatti, can't see the benefit in putting schlein at 2
-
Rory has always ridden well and enjoyed riding Foxhall, he's a very experienced rider and will have good equipment, injury free he'all put plenty on his average! A great asset in the pits too, a natural leader and team man that'll offer loads of help and advice for the younger guys,

Championship Teams Comparison Time

stand out teams Ipswich and Sheffield, now Peterborough are complete think they'll be very competitive, i really don't understand why everyone sees glasgow as an amazing line up! the same top 3 as last year and yes the strongest top 3 in the league but then a very long tail! lunna was a supposed trump card last year riding in their main team body and didn't progress that far, to me perry and smith are both good riders with potential but not a vast difference to ayres and garcia, so for them to go one further than last year and be the best team in the league this means young dan bewley has got to outscore rene bach and ben barker from this year in only his second full season in the premier league! he's a great prospect and I'm sure he's on the road to being a top rider in the next few years, but is he going to double his starting average in only his second season at this level and first in main team body???? i can't see it! -
I'm really surprised by just how good everyone seemingly thinks Glasgow is going to be this year... No doubt they'll have the strongest top 3 in the league but it's the same as last year, and last year those three had the back up of either Rene Bach or Ben barker throughout the year...and they fell short in the league and now their long tail is starting at the next highest average and everyone is saying they're title favourites?? Along with Sheffield I think we've got as strong a top 5 as you'll see and potential at reserve and therefore every reason to be hopeful of being there fighting for the top prize come the end of the season

connor to me is a bit of a gamble coming back from injury but a gamble worth taking in my opinion, most teams are likely to have a 2 pointer or similar at no.7 and pre injury connor was a stand out of the options coming from NL last season with a few promising performances for the witches, theres only so many to go round and would rather see us take a gamble on him than he end up being someone else's trump card reserve, chris louis always talks about trying to build an asset base for the future and the likes of canyon and conner are exactly the type of young ambitious brits we should be supporting! in addition connor has tweeted this week about having been hitting the gym hard with poultec personal trainer suggs which would suggest he's already well on the mend!
-
all this talk about weak reserves and the risk of going with two 2 pointers, well newcastle have just announced their full team too with two 2 pointers at reserve... connor coles and danny phillips.... think we got the better two in hume and mountain by a long way!! will have to wait and see how other teams line up and how strong the reserves are but i can't see where anyone else is going to get a stronger pair both on 2.00 averages you guys joke but someone told me this week they understand paco is going to be lining up for premiership team this year if this is true someone must've seen something somewhere but it definitely wasn't round foxhall!!
-
Very competitive looking team is the one suggested is correct, a very strong top 5 and 2 reserves with loads of potential! everyone to me seems to be saying how weak having 2 2pointers at reserve may be, but it's not different to me than other years when the limit has been 42.50 and the same riders coming through from the national leagues came in on 3.00 averages, not unheard of for teams in the past to have started with two 3.00 men in the past, and both proved themselves most capable, and not fearful of anyone last year in the few meetings they did ride for us. In addition to that with the likes of jack smith, jack pb, josh bailey already signed up and likely several more of the same ilk to follow they're going to be having to beat mostly riders they have been coming up against in the national league anyway, not sure with a short team building limit many will have room for a big reserve

We're still in the eu but when you sign a contract and at the start of the season and you're getting 1.43 euros for every pound you earn and then by august you're only getting 1.07 that's quite a hit to earnings, for every £10,000 earnt it's 3,600 euros less for the same contract so I'd imagine a few of the Europeans will be considering whether it's still worthwhile coming here this year
-
I think it will be heeps. and although he wouldn't be in my ideal 1-7 i do believe he has a lot more ability than his past few seasons would suggest, if the management can improve his mentality and approach to speedway and help him realise his potential then he could end up a bargain on 5.07 because he can and has previously averaged far higher! remains to be seen if louis and hawkins can get this out of him but don't think he's the worst option - someone did even mention lanham the other day....
-
I'd say morten has regularly let us down! Last year was no doubt his most consistent year in a witches race jacket I can't argue with that but where was he against Somerset in the play offs?? 4+1 at home in the biggest meeting of the year on your home track... steady middle order man but in the big heats/meetings he goes missing and pootles round on the kerb!
-
Not necessarily suggesting I want heeps back as such baldy, just what I think most likely....
-
Swap lanham and Shanes for heeps and mountain I think is a better guess
-
Still think there's potential for Newman to make himself a top rider at this level, starting the season at no.4 I'd think he'd pick up more points away from home than morten so if he can get foxhall dialled in could be useful and offer healthy competition for the likes of covatti and other heat leader (schlein perhaps?) agreed a date or timeframe would be nice and the sooner the better!! have heard kyle newman rumoured as a possible/likely thoughts on that? the team suggested to me would have him as the 4th highest average - an improvement on morten?
-
Very impressed with max ruml a couple of years ago at Kings Lynn in the World Cup, impressive against vastly more experienced opposition. What average would new Americans/Aussies etc. come in on tho? 7.00 no thanks 5.00 could be a good shout if you get one like Somerset did last year in both Allen and Wilson dean
-
don't know if the british reduction still exists, not suggesting it doesn't, just don't know! wouldn't that then apply for the other brits in your team if it did apply? how about king 9.57 sarjeant 5.80 porsing 6.58 / wright 6.59 busk jacobsen 6.50 covatti 7.49 hume 2.00 mountain 2.00 39.94/39.95
-
i really do hope joe does get fixed up, young british riders should be getting the opportunities first and foremost, especially off the back of their highest averaging seasons!
-
fear for jacobs being a victim of his own success in both leagues on the averages he attained last year, another british rider likely to be overlooked and essentially shafted by the tight teambuilding
-
lots of rumours danny ayres won't be back at glasgow.... anyone fancy him at foxhall? was an inspired guest for us this season and on 3.7 could either serve as a good reserve partner for hume or perhaps at no.2 freeing up some points for a stronger top 3/4 for example king 9.57 covatti 7.49 ayres 3.70 hume 2.00 leaves 17.24 for remaining three riders. hope to see gino back over here as i do think theres potential but also think theres a lot of riders around on similar averages that offer a better option at this time
