  1. I assume that Pickering hasn't done anything like that before and probably doesn't know Kelvin too well either so I think he did a good job last night, certainly an improvement on Crump. Going forward I do think they need someone regular alongside Kelvin whether that's as the lead or co-commentator but it's pretty much impossible to replace Nigel and the partnership they had.
  2. With a bit of patience Atkins might well have ended up being the reserve benefitting from extra rides after Gilkes' unfortunate injury. Garry May has always made the most of reserve changes so riders should know what to expect when signing for one of his teams. I remember years ago at Edinburgh in a cup final he took Brady Kurtz out of heat 13 to give the weaker reserve (Chessell I think) his 3rd ride which left Rasmus Jensen able to come in and win it for Somerset in 14. I can see why it can get tough for someone in Atkins position but it's about the team winning. May not only knows how to build winning teams but also gets the best out of them.
  3. I haven't seen much of him myself but comments on here are always positive. When you consider the amount of doubling-up it's madness that it took so long for him to get a chance in the Premiership. Credit to him for staying patient and taking his chance when it eventually came.
  4. https://www.eurosport.co.uk/watch/speedway/ Looks like the GP will be on Eurosport 2 with qualifying and 15 minutes extra coverage at the end available on Discovery+
  5. Nice tribute on Sky's Darts coverage last night
  6. Checking again I think perhaps this could be correct. I was looking at Eurosport's website which is different to Eurosport UK. Going by today's schedule, the Eurosport website says that Eurosport 2 is showing Golf from 9.30pm whereas Eurosport UK is showing replays of Superbikes and Cycling. The golf is on Sky in the UK so I assume only they have the rights which would leave Eurosport 2 free to show the GP.
  7. Doesn't look like the GP next weekend is being shown on Eurosport 2 as suggested. They have PGA golf from Mexico starting at 7.30pm with replays of Motocross and Formula E before that.
  8. Only just seen this news, can't believe it. Always enjoyed his commentary and partnership with Kelvin, GPs and Monday nights won't be the same without him. RIP Nigel

  10. Not really worth a thread of it's own so I'll put it here.. This Saturday at 12pm on Talking Pictures in the 'Look At Life' series - "1961. A look at the sport of speedway racing, a sport which satisfies the modern thirst for speed. Also, with a look at how cross-country riding introduced a new hazard of manmade obstacles." Less than 10 minutes long so probably not much to see but might be interesting
  11. Well done to all involved with Team GB, especially the 4 riders. Unfortunate that Woffinden couldn't be there given that he pushed so hard for the professional setup they have now. Tough on Poland given they finished so far in front but that's the way it goes sometimes. Always felt that whoever faced them in the final had a good chance against Janowski.
  12. I think they do a great job, maybe go too far with the 'banter' at times but nobody is perfect. Compared to the dross on Sky/BT football commentary they are miles ahead.
  13. Just watched that without actually knowing the result, described on the BSPA website as 'sensational' and after 2 laps I'm thinking they must have made a mistake! Outstanding ride from Harris.
  14. Well done to Adam Ellis, best rider on the night so fully deserved. Bewley's time will come I'm sure, hopefully both can make it into the GPs through the qualifier this weekend
  15. Did a great job with the Speedway Star and always enjoyed reading his posts on here. RIP
  16. Must be getting on in age considering that he started playing for Everton in 1925
  17. Kerr seems an odd choice? Good luck to him and the other Brits but think there are several more deserving of a place
  18. Entertaining meeting. Easy to say now given the start to the season but if they stay injury free this Peterborough side does look as though they will be tough to beat. Pedersen, Andersen, Nicholls and Harris might not be consistent enough to be genuine No.1s anymore but they're all still capable on a good day. Palm-Toft is also a solid rider at this level so you only need 2 of those 5 to have a good meeting and the rest to do okay. Always going to have a strong reserve as well. As Dan Christian, Notts T20 cricket captain, said last year - "Old blokes win stuff"
  19. Because it's part of a government test event. It's obviously frustrating for everyone else throughout all sports who are struggling to keep going with limited crowds but the reality is the only way they'll get back to full capacity is through these bigger events being a success.
  20. Not a huge tennis fan so not exactly sure but I guess that's because this Monday is the first day so has more matches? The 31st has live coverage ending on Eurosport 2 at 6pm before a 2 hour highlights programme but that will cover any delays. Fair enough, was just going by this - https://www.fanseat.com/speedway/premiership-speedway
  21. A little unfair to criticise Eurosport for their scheduling. There would have been a meeting this week if the weather hadn't intervened, they can't be blamed for that. Next week is the start of the French Open which will take up both of their channels which is fair enough. After that there is currently 6 meetings in 7 weeks scheduled; June 7th: Peterborough - King's Lynn June 14th: Sheffield - King's Lynn June 28th: Ipswich - Wolves July 5th: King's Lynn - Ipswich July 12th: Belle Vue - Wolves July 19th Wolves - Ipswich
  22. Disappointing news but not unexpected given recent events. Hopefully Garry May will be back somewhere sooner rather than later
  23. Doesn't look like they are repeated again on Quest. You can watch them here - https://www.discoveryplus.co.uk/show/british-speedway-highlights You'll need to create an account but it's free
