Speedway On Tv And The Internet In 2024
The Cheese replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Not really worth a thread of it's own so I'll put it here.. This Saturday at 12pm on Talking Pictures in the 'Look At Life' series - "1961. A look at the sport of speedway racing, a sport which satisfies the modern thirst for speed. Also, with a look at how cross-country riding introduced a new hazard of manmade obstacles." Less than 10 minutes long so probably not much to see but might be interesting -
He's 20 (2nd July 2001)

Well done to all involved with Team GB, especially the 4 riders. Unfortunate that Woffinden couldn't be there given that he pushed so hard for the professional setup they have now. Tough on Poland given they finished so far in front but that's the way it goes sometimes. Always felt that whoever faced them in the final had a good chance against Janowski.

Has Kelv put his heating on yet?

I think they do a great job, maybe go too far with the 'banter' at times but nobody is perfect. Compared to the dross on Sky/BT football commentary they are miles ahead. -
Sheffield Tigers v Peterborough Panthers - Thursday
The Cheese replied to Flappy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Just watched that without actually knowing the result, described on the BSPA website as 'sensational' and after 2 laps I'm thinking they must have made a mistake! Outstanding ride from Harris. -
British Final 2021

Well done to Adam Ellis, best rider on the night so fully deserved. Bewley's time will come I'm sure, hopefully both can make it into the GPs through the qualifier this weekend -
Did a great job with the Speedway Star and always enjoyed reading his posts on here. RIP

Entertaining meeting. Easy to say now given the start to the season but if they stay injury free this Peterborough side does look as though they will be tough to beat. Pedersen, Andersen, Nicholls and Harris might not be consistent enough to be genuine No.1s anymore but they're all still capable on a good day. Palm-Toft is also a solid rider at this level so you only need 2 of those 5 to have a good meeting and the rest to do okay. Always going to have a strong reserve as well. As Dan Christian, Notts T20 cricket captain, said last year - "Old blokes win stuff"

Because it's part of a government test event. It's obviously frustrating for everyone else throughout all sports who are struggling to keep going with limited crowds but the reality is the only way they'll get back to full capacity is through these bigger events being a success.

Not a huge tennis fan so not exactly sure but I guess that's because this Monday is the first day so has more matches? The 31st has live coverage ending on Eurosport 2 at 6pm before a 2 hour highlights programme but that will cover any delays. Fair enough, was just going by this - https://www.fanseat.com/speedway/premiership-speedway

A little unfair to criticise Eurosport for their scheduling. There would have been a meeting this week if the weather hadn't intervened, they can't be blamed for that. Next week is the start of the French Open which will take up both of their channels which is fair enough. After that there is currently 6 meetings in 7 weeks scheduled; June 7th: Peterborough - King's Lynn June 14th: Sheffield - King's Lynn June 28th: Ipswich - Wolves July 5th: King's Lynn - Ipswich July 12th: Belle Vue - Wolves July 19th Wolves - Ipswich

Disappointing news but not unexpected given recent events. Hopefully Garry May will be back somewhere sooner rather than later

Doesn't look like they are repeated again on Quest. You can watch them here - https://www.discoveryplus.co.uk/show/british-speedway-highlights You'll need to create an account but it's free

Kings Lynn vs Ipswich Witches May 17th 7.30pm
The Cheese replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
No surprise to see Rowe start well, I've said it before but it's impressive how every time he steps up a level he makes it look easy. Not by hitting big eye-catching scores every week but just quietly going about his business even when on paper you might say it's possibly too early for him. His NL average wasn't great when he signed for Somerset in the Championship but he did well enough to move up to number 2 within a few months. Pretty much everyone expected him to struggle there but a couple of meetings in he was beating Craig Cook in Heat 1 and finished that season with an excellent debut for GB in the test match against Denmark. Seemed to make a steady start to his Polish career last year too. For some reason he doesn't get talked about as often as others in his age group but maybe going under the radar slightly without the hype is a good thing. -
The Fanseat schedule shows Peterborough - King's Lynn on June 7th. I'm guessing there won't be a meeting on Eurosport on the 31st May because of the French Open tennis

https://www.eurosport.co.uk/speedway/ Might be useful if Eurosport could make the effort to update this page. Going back to their press release when this deal was announced it said "The latest stories and news will be covered in-depth" Since then (October 2019) there has been 1 article which announces the agreement to show the GPs and SoN from 2022. The fixtures page doesn't even have a section for British speedway and I'm not quite sure what the making of Jesse Lingard has to do with the sport? But at least on the schedule they've now updated Monday's fixture to 'Round 1' rather than saying it was from 'Blue Vale' as it suggested a couple of days ago. On a more positive note, the presenting/commentary line-up looks good and it's great that the sport will be shown on free-to-air TV. Hopefully we'll have an entertaining season!

Do we know if all speedway in this country has been classed as an 'elite sport'? In cricket, Australian Billy Stanlake has been in a bubble and arrived in England on Sunday to play for Derbyshire but has been told he has to quarantine because the County Championship isn't an elite sport. If they had a T20 fixture though he would be allowed to play because that is classed as an elite sport! So potentially we could have the Premiership classed as elite but not the Championship or NDL. Any cup/challenge/individual meetings might not be either.

Premiership riders individual series

http://speedwaygb.co.uk/news.php?extend.38719 Confirms this idea has been dropped but a one-off event might take place -
They'll be leaping for joy

Impressive start! Probably going to need a couple of inexperienced youngsters at the bottom end to fit in but can't really ask for 2 better riders to pass on their experience at this level.

He had to quarantine but under FA rules had permission to join Chelsea's bubble as he tested negative before flying into the country. So basically he was allowed into the training ground and stadium but nowhere else
