Well done to Sheffield, felt as though they'd have to make a great start and that's what they got. Ipswich needed someone to back-up Emil and Doyle but nobody really managed to do that. It's a shame though that again you have the most important meeting of the season being rushed through in less than ideal conditions. Not sure what the forecast was but if that rain was expected then it would have made sense to postpone until next week.

Ipswich v Sheffield play off final 1st leg
The Cheese replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I can see why so many saw Lambert's comments as whinging and would probably agree but I'd rather see a rider give their honest opinion than the same old "we're disappointed but we go again on Thursday" type interview. As a King's Lynn rider I'd expect him to be more annoyed at losing to Ipswich too. Assuming Doyle is okay you'd fancy Ipswich to win now but I wouldn't write Sheffield off just yet, Hume being a liability has just about kept them in it. King and Rew will be the key riders in the 2nd leg, not expecting the other 3 to add much so they'll need to back up the top 2. -
SGP wild cards 2024

https://www.fimspeedway.com/sgp/riders That's the list of permanent riders for this year, Becker's profile was also on that page earlier today but it's not there now. -
Poor from Belle Vue but you have to give Ipswich credit, solid throughout the team last night and appear to be peaking at the right time. There's always plenty of jokes about Harris riding for everyone and understandably so, but there's a reason why he's the go to guest for everyone. Especially at this time of year when conditions are often not great and you can see that some don't fancy it. There's going to be a huge hole in British speedway when he eventually retires.

Danish Grand Prix - Vojens - 16th Sep
The Cheese replied to JanAndersen's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Good to see Doyle hasn't broken anything. Not usually one to criticise Tatum but his commentary was woeful yesterday. I don't think he realised all night that Hansen was promoted into the meeting to replace Zmarzlik. They could do with having someone who understands the rules, can count and has the statistics to feed them that information. -
I was catching up on reading the Speedway Star yesterday and there was an interview with Adam Ellis in the issue a couple of weeks ago. He mentions that Woffinden and the GB team had organised a practice day at Wroclaw, understandably didn't expect Tai, Bewley or Lambert to need to be there but was surprised to find he was the only one who turned up. Again, if he's prepared to put the effort in when others aren't, those riders can't complain when they don't get selected.

Yes. Next 3 meetings after that; Monday August 14 – Sports Insure British Final Monday August 21 – Belle Vue v King’s Lynn Monday August 28 – Wolverhampton v Sheffield

I'm not sure how this stuff is funded so maybe it costs the riders money to ride in the European Pairs or whatever but I don't think it's unreasonable to give priority to those who've made themselves available for GB throughout the year. Ellis was the logical 4th rider anyway given his Polish form and SEC experience.

World Cup - Wroclaw July 2023
The Cheese replied to Monarchs2468's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
A great meeting, feels a bit like GB missed an opportunity but I don't think they could have done much more. Lambert was superb all night, Ellis more than did his job and I'm sure Brennan will have learnt more from this week than he would in a whole Championship season. I thought Poland had made a huge mistake by putting Janowski in the last race but credit to him. Disappointing it's going to be a while before the next World Cup, alternating each year with the SoN would be better. -
Will Tai be able to race in the SWC

If the other bloke has ended up with a broken arm it's unfortunate but if you're in an area you shouldn't be and trying to provoke the opposition supporters, then it's your own fault. A bit stupid from Woffinden to react in that way, could maybe get a fine but talk of a ban seems extreme and the suggestion of police involvement is ridiculous. -
Plenty of ways Eurosport could still show the GP if they wanted. I'm not sure of tennis timings but Saturday is listed as the Men's doubles final 4.30pm-7pm and then it's only highlights after. If it finishes in 2 sets then the GP could probably still be shown live. Could that final even start earlier if the Women's final before finishes quickly? If not, then have it at 7pm with delayed coverage. Or stick it on Quest/another channel. Even without affecting the schedule of other sports highlights/repeats, there's the option of repeating it on Monday 1am-4am. Instead it's an hour of the GP highlights, followed by an hour of the last Premiership meeting and then an hour of GP again which is pointless.

There can't be another sport where those running/connected with teams are so obsessed with moaning about keyboard warriors and making unprofessional comments/statements. What do they think it's actually going to achieve? There's not one club who can afford to alienate their supporters, if just 1 person decides 'I've had enough' after reading them, how are you replacing that £300+? If you can't handle a few critical comments then maybe either don't put yourself in that position or stay off social media. Whatever you do, it should be pretty simple to understand you don't start having a pop at your supporters because you need them.

Unfortunate for Holder, never ideal to award a final but in cases like this it would be the right thing to do. No consolation for him now but I'm sure he'll win a GP soon enough. Thought Doyle was unlucky, can kind of see that the referee might have thought he made the most of it but there's no doubt if it had been the other way around then that would have been seen as enough contact to exclude. Hopefully Lindgren can continue his form and make the title race interesting.
