  1. There was an attendance of 901 at the Town match yesterday. A figure that would have possibly seen Comets workable???? The metal markers,on the track, would have been removed as per player safety obligations.
  2. Had a look at Derwent Park today.....work including painting, sweeping terraces, foliage removal - all busily happening. Sad though to see the markers on the speedway track indicating where the new playing surface for the new incumbent soccer outfit ,Workington 'Reds', will eventually be. A lot of the 'track' is going to be taken to allow Reds to play according to FA pitch requirements.......the 'markers' just sadly seemed some sort of final epitaph to a once great speedway track.
  3. This has been talked about for weeks now....hope it's just someones imagination. But it still doesn't look good for a Comets return to DP. So what can we do for our speedway fix, now, and in the future? It's just not the same coming on here knowing all that seems to appear are wind ups about other tracks etc. Jenga amuses me.......I've habitually logged on each day down the years having a good cuppa and read about the Comets.....it's not the same already, sadly I'm going to log off...and come back once in blue moon....
  4. So now the 2019 fixtures are out it makes the loss of Comets even more sad. Now being on the outside looking in at all the anticipated thrills, spills and excitement from those still operating a track is almost mind blowing...
  5. He did like the inside line that's for sure.......cutback expert bar none.
  6. Yeah a removable surface should work...it would possibly just be required on the home and back straights with the bends staying as per normal?
  7. Just been reading the Workington Town Rugby forum and there are a few mentions regarding the soccer team..the Reds...moving to Derwent Park in the summer, saying July, with therefore amendments being scheduled to the DP pitch area which will require grassing over of the speedway track. This of course just reaffirms what I was told at the Town match last Sunday - but it worries me greatly that the track could be lost forever? I hope not!!!!!!!!
  8. Seems strange for such a wealthy company not to help.......I do think the new stadium plans, and all that jazz, has had an effect on Workington speedway's future though. While I will most certainly miss my Saturday night Comets fix, you know what I will no longer wake on a Summer Saturday morning and hastily look/worry at what the weather is doing...as far as I'm concerned it can p down every Saturday from now on (i.e. in west Cumbria).....oooops... sorry to the' tan' fans!!!!
  9. Yep....was told this was a fact during the Town v Haven match on Sunday......'Reds' moving to DP to allow new stadium build on their pitch and old greyhound patch.
  10. Still in shock to be honest.......got to say with the Comets always having stayed in the second tier, throughout their history, I agree that the comment re going up a league could well have proved a solution....those stay-away folk would have had a look for sure? As for Laura being let down....well I stood at the front of the Stand post match soaking in the euphoria the night the Championship was won..great feeling, great night, and I just noticed some local business-men seemingly captivated too (I've purchased off them down the years) and they were invited to join the 'on track fun'........I then put two and two together and thought great these guys are up for it next year (was never great at math's mind)...it's never good to think like that without concrete evidence I guess...and I suppose their interest waned as the Winter rolled along? Memories of trips to such as Eastbourne, Canterbury, Crayford, Peterborough, Paisley, Coatbridge, Berwick, Newcastle, Glasgow, Barrow (great derbies) will stay forever..........sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
  11. And often Sundays in the 70's Jenga........I'll never forget beating big league Ipswich and Kings Lynn in 1976.......happy days.
  12. DEVASTATED.......but maybe not 100% surprised...I was gonna post last night following my visit to Derwent Park yesterday to watch Town v Haven...I'm possibly one of the few who support both Comets and Town? Anyway what got me worried re Comets was when the guys I always stand with at Town matches were in unison with a story re the proposed new stadium and it's side effects. They said the Workington 'Reds' AFC are due to move to Derwent Park for their 2019/20 season. BUT the Derwent Park pitch area is less than what the FA require for soccer matches...I kind of took their comments with a pinch of salt, given that none of them support the Speedway, and as always they liked to spread doom and gloom re Comets. But last night I started thinking if 'Reds' do need a bigger playing surface by August 2019 what will happen to the speedway track? It would mean work, i.e. taking some of the track, would need to commence during the Summer - June/July?. So if the 'Reds' story is correct speedway was gonna be ousted anyway.? As I said those Townie 'doom merchants' have made me think it may not be just a financial issue that has seen Comets demise? Any thoughts ?????
  13. Blimey you can type marra............as ever comprehensive, and more than interesting stuff indeed....all sparked by a couple of TiC comments albeit. I've never had the financial clout you obviously have enjoyed...my commitment to the Comets started in 1970...til 1979..then 1999 to date - not sure how much that has cost but worth every penny.....as for football support I travel to watch..............................................................................................MUFC...ok.
  14. Think if Dan Bewley had been fit for the 'play offs'..................................................................................................................................Comets would STILL have done the treble !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Injuries are part and parcel of all teams, you ken ?
  15. With the upcoming BSPA AGM, we have made the decision that we will continue to support the participation of Glasgow Tigers as a Championship team in 2019, but unless we can make a significant turnaround in terms of operational costs and revenue, it is doubtful we will be able to support a Championship team the following year. Lest ye forget.
  16. Night shift for the business you own, wow?????? Were you just checking all were awake?
  17. Bloody hell......don't leave us pls.......especially to support NUFC...sublime to ridiculous for certain.
  18. Flippin heck averages averages averages.....don't use them to decry a rider it doesn't add up.....all of us who saw Ramus perform in the latter part of Comets triumphant season had evidence aplenty of his crowd pleasing input....a joy to watch for sure...........stuff the averages.
  19. Yep I'm sure he will be doing all he can to aid his recovery.......................roll on 2019......just sad to see the posts regarding Ramus not returning though....
  20. Great see the Comets being given the Cumbria team of the year accolade, a real tonic for speedway in general.... .....Laura mentions it is an award for the riders efforts, quite rightly.. ...but as they are all scattered worldwide none could join the ceremony....my only thought on that comment is - was Dan Bewley not still around locally?
  21. Great idea...hope it's a success......£1 extra is fine too.......................roll on April.
  22. You've missed off the all important eh.............it's not proper west Cumbrian marra without eh is it eh Jenga.??
