  1. I remember Joycey from my night's out in Oxford City Centre in the 70s.
  2. Was there last year, I reckon most of the white working-class cockneys have moved to Kent. A bit of gentrification around the Old Kent Road. The New Den is still full of white faces, very few black faces, but same as Arsenal, Wet Spam, Chelsea, etc., most fans won't live locally like they used to. Lots of different nationalities around there now, Jamaicans, Nigerians, Nepalese, Romanians, Portuguese, Brazilians, Turkish, Polish, Chinese, Asian, etc., stores
  3. But it was a bit dodgy being an Arsenal, Charlton, or any other fan around there in the 60s. That's a fair old hike, New Cross to East Dulwich. I lived in Nunhead, about 30 minute walk, for the dogs post 63 and the Den. Dulwich Hamlet about 30 mins walk as well. Dulwich and New Cross 2 different worlds now. I used to go across to Highbury when i was 10 or11, train and tube, no major problems 66/67. But even then there were certain areas you didnt feel safe in.
  4. Let em all come down to the Den!
  5. Wouldn't mind the crowds they had in 2007 though, stronger teams, Adams, Crump, Pedersen, Hancock, etc., and the 11 team Elite league before Oxford ceased in May.
  6. Apart from the admission and lack of communication issues the Ox are in the enviable position of being in a catchment area of millions of would be fans, half of London, and with no Swindon or Reading, the Thames Valley, m4 corridor, some of the west country, most of southern England, south Midlands, perhaps a bigger catchment than Belle Vue, around 10 Million? potential supporters. With good promoting and marketing should be very well supported, getting at least 2-3000 regularly per meeting, best supported in Britain, especially in warmer weather. I used to follow Workington, stuck out on a limb on the west Cumbria coast, but still well supported. Teams such as Lynn and Berwick out on a limb with small surrounding population. Still feel Ox need to be in top div. for massive interest, so fans can watch the top riders, Doyley, Sayfutdinov, Pedersen, etc., It's a far better stadium than the Swindon Shabbey, more seats, better viewing, cleaner bogs, free car parking. They need to have a good season with exciting racing to sustain the fans interest. And to eventually have Premiership status as the Robins did . Speedway not the same without Poole, Coventry, Swindon, Reading in the elite level. Look forward to visit this season.
  7. Tickets still available, hopefully the weather won't win.
  8. Be interesting to see how many other clubs operate the Oxfam way. Plenty of older people still don't have smartphones or computers. And speedway attracts a mainly older fan.
  9. Thats why i watch non-league football now, Cirencester Town and Dulwich Hamlet mainly..A tenner to get it at Ciren, friendly, family atmosphere, good facilities, good pitch, good standard of football, endeavour from players who may have played for Swindon, Cheltenham, Forest Green, nearby, and only get about hundred quid a game, train hard but hold down full-time jobs.. Around 22 quid to watch Swindon Down in bottom div.
  10. Have only tried their Facebook/messenger page. Perhaps they could fit the fixture in end of August if it is rained-off after end of the League campaign, for the Swoinedown fans that only want to attend this one-off fixture, then they don't lose out. Will get up the A420 for a few matches this season, a few Robins, Coventry, Reading, etc, fans in attendance last year. Support British Speedway.
  11. Totally agree with that. Oxford speedway never reply. And its cash only for programme. Hope they get some good crowds this season. They would get a few more if they changed their admission policy.
  12. Same here. Poor weather forecast. Will it be re-run if cancelled, perhaps during the summer months. No need to charge 2 quid extra on the day, but good luck to both teams and fans if it goes ahead. I would go to Oxfam more if you could pay on gate. Oxford Chargers v Workington in August for me.
  13. Fundin, Knutson, Nygren, Soren Karlsson for me.
  14. We used to climb in at Blunsdon when I was 12, then they made it too difficult
  15. Would have liked to have seen Musielak, Jensen, Bellego, but would be too one-sided. Will wait until near day to get tickets, weather dependent, as you can't pay on gate. Programme is cash only.
  16. Bury Black Puddings Buxton Waterboys Cornish Pasties Brighton Benders Lancashire Hotpots Swindon Swines Slough Indians Wiltshire Moonrakers Chelsea Rentboys Hereford Cidermen
  17. Are the grandstand seats allocated, or is it first there? Went twice last year, both warm evenings so chair at top of third bend. Will be a bit cooler in March.
  18. Great stuff, March 29...the 2019 team should smash the Ox. Be good to see the Tangerines back in action, probably be a 3000 sell-out with a big crowd from down the A420. Should do a trackshare with Ox, it's about 45 minutes away
  19. A Facebook group, photos of old grounds. Good photos of Thames F.C. played at West Ham stadium, Custom House, E16, capacity of 120,000, sharing with speedway and dog racing. Opened in 1928. Joined Football league but soon dropped out with poor crowds, nearby teams such as West Ham United, Charlton, Orient, Millwall.
  20. He was over this year but with the Robins now defunct we went to Oxford instead.
  21. My bruv, from Swindon with Robins prog board, now living in Adelaide, was there. Said meeting was held up for nearly an hour because of bad crash. Ellis won final by wheel, and Woffy put on a performance. Old Swindon 1-2
  22. There were no woods in Camberwell/ Peckham. Probably spies those East Germans kids
  23. Oxford is within 45 minutes on a good day, just share with them.
