01/08/2018 : Somerset v Swindon : Premiership

How many there roughly? Certainly a lot more than April last year. Swelled by holidaymakers and big contingent of Robins fans. -
Obviously Doyley going to Zummerrzet and Morra having a poor season has been the major difference. Great attitude from Tobi last night, fist pumping in his last 3 rides, after first 2 bike problems. Bellego was untouchable in first 3 then again bike problems. A rare off night for Batch, has been excellent. Fantastic turnout from Robins fans. If only all meetings were like that speedway wouldn't be in such a state.

Was chatting to a Somerset fan last night at the Oaktree Arena, started watching speedway at Norwich in 1956.

Really good set up down there at The Oaktree. Once the track had dried out some good racing, far better than at the Abbey. 7 out of 15 race winners for Swindon, but 14 last places! Bellego flying for 3 races then burnt out 2 clutch plates in final 2. Muesli unbeatable in last 3, almost fencing Holder in heat 15! Batch strangely out of sorts, though he has been excellent all season. Luckily Doyle wasn't racing or they may have hit 60. Rebs deserve to be in playoffs. Never seen so many animals around a stadium, dogs, goats, peacocks, chickens, its a cross between a zoo and motor cycling arena! Friendly bunch of local yokels, apart from result an enjoyable evening. Great support from Wiltshire, bumper crowd. Meeting ran at fast pace, back indoors for 10.30, 70 miles, driving on the motorways. -

Always good racing at OTA. Good crowd, plenty from Swindon. Somerset fully deserved the points. Apart from heat 15 Swindon were pants, no excuses. Tobi, Dave, Rohan, tried hard, Batch awful. Robins may sneak into playoffs with the amount of home fixtures left. -

We are going tonight leaving Swindonia 5.15, took hour 15 last year, and that was Friday. Will go Rebs 48 Robs 42, Zummerrzet have stronger reserves, but we need a point. -
Well done Swindon, back top. Great work Zacho.

2019 One big league will it happen.?
Ovalman replied to Sidney the robin's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Crowds at Swindon last year when they hit the top after the 17 match unbeaten run were very good, hitting 3000 occasionally later on in the year if it was warm. But apart from the derbies against Somerset and Poole this year havent seen an increase. Tessa Russell won't support one big league. -
Precisely, hardly any fans go on the forum anyway, so who gives a toss.

Awful dust bowl of a track, very little passing, but our first time speedway visitors bloody loved it surprisingly! Great weather and nice cold coiderr made it bearable just. Need to get this sorted otherwise crowds will be even lower in future. Was around half of crowd that attended Zummerrzet match, even though free and reduced admission was on offer. A few hundred missing as it was on BT. Hope Morra is ok. Great comeback for Dave Bellego, and good display from fellow Frenchie Berge. sign him up, Adam and Troy excellent, and good recovery by Tobi. Leicester, apart from Hansi, offered very little, only 3 heat wins. Swindon have ridden 2 more meetings than anyone, still all to play for all 7 in with a shout. Could well be last season for Robins if it carries on like this.

Didn't go this year, but had plenty of time to catch train back to Swindon last year, think it was 9.00. What time did meeting finish this year? Will seriously consider driving next year if going to miss the finale. The racing seems to get better each year, vast improvement since I started going in 2005. Good news that ticket prices haven't increased unlike the Premier League. The reason attendances have held up well in Cardiff. -
I've signed for them and booked for a spin post meeting on Monday

Grand Prix preview on mainstream tv this morning. Action from Kings Lynn with ruthless Lambert interview, and Mike on a bike!
-
Good to see Swindon speedway stand at Orbital Shopping park this morning. Lots of interest, and first time I've sat on a speedway bike!
-
Great work from Lee Kilby bringing in New sponsors, and getting out into schools, fetes and fayres promoting the club. Excellent article from El Tel in this week's prog, and the current shambles in the sport, and the continuity and regularity of fixtures.

Aarnio beat Lindgren last year when guesting for Robins, would be a good signing, along with Palm Soft. Apart from Doyle the Rebs look pretty average, the absence of Dave and Zach was massive, as they scored 10 points each when they beat the Rebs 58-32 around 8 weeks ago.Swindon won 8 races, and the 10 heats with Perky and Smiffy cost em. The track is awful, mainly due to the hot dry weather, and is too Sandy. With 8 home matches and 6 away to come should be top 4 place for the reigning champs. Otherwise I will eat my programme board.
