Sell me your team to Support

Zummerzet. ..friendly club, good facilities, great racetrack, only couple of miles from beach at Burnham-on-Sea. Pity i cant watch Swindon there this season. -
Now Swindon only average about half that, and are one of speedway best supported clubs. 3000 at The Abbey is a fantastic crowd.

Can remember that last meeting at New Cross in 63. Stevens won last heat, Squibbo last to cross line. A loss to Poole. My fav was Penniket, number 5. Reg and Eddie Reeves, father and son, Lukehurst, Dugard, Squibbo was the top man. No idea what the crowd numbers were?

South of Peckham...Dulwich very expensive, Sydenham, Crystal Palace. If I was a millionaire would live in Richmond upon Thames.Swindon property prices are half of London, even about half of Oxford and Reading both 30/40 miles away.

Left souf-east London for Swindon in1967, used to go back in the 70s to watch The Arsenal. Over a million Londoners left to settle in the 50 overspill expanded/new towns, plus the few million others, mainly working class.Peckham has been part gentrified, so locals are priced out. Couldn't live there now meself, too noisy, fast, and crime ridden. Used to watch New Cross Wimbledon Ackney Wet Spam but now probably Kent and Eastbourne are nearest to the capital with no Rye or Lakeside.

Is that the Reg of the New X Rangers in 63, with Eddie Reeves the number 7.?

What matches had the biggest attendance in Speedway history?

My dad followed them then from Camberwell South London. He should have supported New Cross or Wimbledon. He said there was 80000 against New Cross. -
Cramlington was full of black faces when the pits were there! Went to see a Millwall game 4 months ago, New Cross has big ethnic population, but very few in the New Den. Most of the white faces have moved to Kent.

The futures bright..The futures orange! Perhaps they're being sponsored by Swindon Council. Anyway Robins have orange breasts!

Swindon used to hold about 17000 now around 5000.

Can't really remember I was only 7!

Didn't follow speedway then..what was the story?

Hi Glenn, No buses to and from stadium direct, for 7 people worth hiring 2 taxis or one minibus. About 8-12 pounds one way from station. Don't get into Hackney cab waiting on rank, too expensive. Cross Street, office by the station, are the cheapest 01793 232323. Book in advance for minibus. Better to eat outside of stadium, good pubs, hotels, eateries, takeaways nearby. Have bruv in Adelaide, has been over for GP, in 2008. Support Swindon though! Enjoy your trip

I can remember Stan being the last rider to cross the finishing line at the Pan 1963.

I remember that, and Adams winning his own Farewell meeting..with a second bend swoop from last to first.

1969..Swindon v Exeter..Briggs v Ashby neck and neck for 4 laps, Ashby won by a tyre width. 2007..Coventry v Swindon..Swindon needed a 5-1 in last heat to win. Adams was away and gone, Chrzanowski spent 4 laps holding off Schlein and Nicholls, as I leapt around amongst the Bees fans. Incredible speedway.

Well done Ricky. -
The reason we moved from souf-east London to Swindon in 1967.The old man liked the football and speedway teams. Well that and the free council house with the job like.

Most unfortunate team Wolves in 2017 Grand Final, Lindgren and Thorsell out injured but Swindon cocked up the first leg, but won final by one point at Monmore..Harris poor guest, same as 2012 when Poole lost out, with Ward out., the title going to the rip roaring Rockin Robins from Wiltshire.

Good news for the club with Lee being appointed co-promoter
