  1. Only went once, 2007, Swindon needed 5-1 In last heat to win, and they did. Adams and Chrzanowski beating Nicholls and Schwein.Great track, great stadium, good fans, a sad loss to the sport.
  2. The only team outside of London to win it between the Wembley and Wimbledon dominance, not forgetting the New Cross win. A year ending in 7 is good for a Wiltshire title win 57, 67, 17.
  3. Fried eggs, streaky bacon, cornflakes, shredded wheat?
  4. Was my fave Ranger in 1963.
  5. How long has this been bloody going on now
  6. Now Premier Inn. Coldharbour still there. Mike Keen still lives in Minety. Lots of housing around there now, Robins Farm pub and housing estates, and roads named after former riders. The Shabbey is looking it's age!
  7. Only sat behind the glass once, around 66 British semi-final?, won easily by Barry Briggs, 15 max.
  8. Nigel, Crash, Eric, Malc, Ray, Tel, John
  9. Used to part-time, think he may be fully retired now?
  10. Still has long hair now in a grey bun, with familiar moustache.
  11. Chatting to The Duke today as we were shopping in Aldi north Swindon.
  12. I remember The Duke saying he was called up for England v New Zealand in 1970 at Swindon, had a chance to ride in one race but didnt want to risk damaging his mate's bike, Sean Murtough i think, so was non-starter. Was at the meeting, England 70 Kiwis 37. Ashby, Kilby, the Boocock Bros, Wilson, against Briggo, max, and Mauger. Kilbs beat Mauger in last heat. Betts, Haley, Hedge featured. Was a 4-0 whitewash for England, although the Kiwis had won the series 2-1 the previous year, Moore was riding, Gifford, Andrews, Timmo, Cribb, and they beat England at Swindon.
  13. Had his rosette on my bedroom wall from 1963 final. Was sad news when my Dad woke me that night to say he had been killed. We followed Bjorn at West Am.Didnt like Ove or Bazza as they were his main rivals.
  14. Yes it's a good read. For me Ove was number 1 when I started watching speedway in 63, my first World final. Briggo took over mid 60s, special mentions to 2 faves Craven and Knutson.
  15. Were the East End derbies Ackney v West Am as feisty? My dad, a Wembley fan, said Arringay matches were feisty affairs in norf London.
  16. Was chatting to Barry Duke last year in Mns cafe in north Swindon, he said he couldn't believe that his two heroes Barry and Ove were in same heat as him as Dukey came third for Robins 4-2.
  17. Ashby, Kilby, Stonehewer, Les Collins, Michanek.
  18. 2012 another good year for me. Swindon's first title for 45 years. The 2 Wessex clubs, Poole and Swindon, far ahead of everyone else. Swindon 7 points up from home leg in Wiltshire, keeping it tight down in Dorset. No Ward for Poole, no Doyle for Swindon. Swindonian Rosco collapsing on the track in tears. Hans Andersen fantastic captain.
  19. Massive track and stadium. Enjoyed visiting New Cross, Wimbledon, Ackney, West Am, Wembley, never got to White City. Also loved the Coventry and Worky track and stadium, all sadly gone now.
  20. Saw him ride for Worky in 2005. R.I.P.
  21. 2004.. got back into speedway at Workington after 30 year break.
  22. Well done Sir Bazza, friendly little club nice stadium over on the island
  23. But I recall seeing you there, orange trilby, black cravat, pink winklepickers, and New Cross rosette
