  1. Having worked with Employment Law for a lot of my working life it never ceases to amaze me that law makers (and in this case rule makers) so frequently include terms which are open to interpretation which results in no definitive answer being available without the benefit of case law. So argue as much as you like - you do not have the answer The answer will become clear based on case law - what the BSPA accept as long term will become the definition. So if this goes as it is with no sanction on Poole - then 2 weeks is long term. I suspect that Poole really did not expect Hans to try a return so quickly and its a mystery why he did as it seems he has accepted it was an error. The real solution would be a World Governing body definition which would prevent a rider involved in the use of this type of rule riding in any WGB sanctioned competition. Of course livliehood and income are probably a major part of this issue (the early return) and therefore maybe a WGB riders injury support fund would help to prevent riders attempting to come back too soon - if that were the case the WGB would I am sure require their own medical examination to determine the seriousness of the injury - but that would require joined up organisation which sadly speedway seems to be lacking. And anyway - what would you do with your lives if it was all straightforward and unquestionable
  2. The Poole riders made it as entertaining as possible - but it was a foregone conclusion from the outset which is not good in any sport. I admire the Poole management trying to boost interest in the Leicester home match - £10 entry 1 child free - music - noise makers etc. But what about season ticket holders who put money up front and get no benefit from the reductions - one free play off meeting maybe?? It would be a nice gesture for loyalty
  3. I hope we have Brady locked in - he was outstanding last night - the potential is huge. Hans will sort it out he was unbeatable early season - no team should change riders on short term form issues - I was sorry for Davey Watt but that was clearly the right decision (proven by the subsequent Leicester performances). Poole are fine
  4. The sonic boom in Yorkshire was clearly Aliens abducting the real Matt Ford and all his critics - Poole are now a team without hope who nobody rates as unbeatable and unfair competition to the rest of the league!. It's always tough for any team going without their regular 1-7 - but the Pirates are still a solid team and I believe the 4 regulars and 2 guests will do enough to force the Aliens to return both the real Matt and the horde of critics by this time on Thursday :-)
  5. Bjarne is hardly a hidden secret - others had the chance to get him but decided not to - I hope Davey is OK but business is business
  6. My other sport is American Football (UK amateur and will never be anything more) and I think our Promoters could learn a lot from the NFL and the way its franchises are run. Each team puts their gate money into a collective pot and it is split evenly amongst the teams in the league - this means that each franchise owner has a vested interest in the commercial success of the others - and they help each other for the common good. They keep any VIP package income to themselves which encourages them to up the supporter experience Teams are not restricted in the players they sign - but they can only franchise (keep to themselves) two players (in a squad of 45) the rest are free agents. A salary cap stops teams simply buying up all the best players - and a draft system ensures equalisation by allowing the lowest performing team to select first when the new talent arrives from College Football each year. This model would not work precisely as described for Speedway but something similar could I believe. Let each team Franchise 2 riders in the Elite league - all riders wishing to compete in British Speedway declare their interest by a certain date and in reverse order of the previous standings teams select riders over 5 rounds (maybe 6 if the #8 idea prevails). I realise that race hnight clashes would cause some issues - but I'm sure they could be overcome. It works in the NFL where no one team dominates for long and every team has a chance to be competitive I can't reply below as I am on probation - but of course you still get bad decisions - that is why Jacksonville will not be around much longer - but past 11 years - 11 DIFFERENT champions pretty much shows the system works
  7. Streaming meetings free means less money in a sport that simply can't afford any loss of revenue. That said the clubs should recognise a need and set up a pay per view streaming service for people who can't make a meeting due to geography
  8. This suggests that only Poole are capable of finding "hidden treasure" within the system (Pirates are naturally inclined to hidden treasure!) but the fact is that opportunities are the same for all teams - it takes hard work and good negotiating skills - but anyone can do it if they apply themselves.
  9. Could going up against a Prem team in a friendly have tuned the Robins riders to Prem League pace - whereas the Pirates had the shield against Coventry. Time will tell but maybe warm up matches against foreign opposition would be better? Great job building the team by the Poole Management - you get out what you put in and they work hard for us. What changes do you think Swindon can make - when Rosco says things will change does he mean luck, attitudes or personnel?
