  1. The local news was reporting that the rule had been lifted?
  2. One of Poole's "have-a-go" webmasters are busy f*cking the site up at the moment, so that may well be why. The more obvious reason is Matt loves a press opportunity and will probably big it up a little closer to the season starting.
  3. Yes, that's life. Sub 3 point average riders with 1 season of experience don't exactly go to the top of the priority list.
  4. I am not blinded at all. The fact of the matter is Poole does not decide the rules. The rules are decided by the promoters. Matt Ford has been arguing for certain rule changes for years and has never made it past the vote. This year GSI had difficulty at the AGM because some promoters actually voted in favour of no TV coverage and unanimous decision was required. There are lots of initiatives and rule changes that not on Poole, but many other parties never get past the AGM. I know some people on here want to believe that Matt Ford has got some sort of leverage but the facts speak for themselves. Changes to the rules are not made without everybody being in agreement. This year the teams are very close. There are a couple of teams that look unlikely to do particularly well, but generally they are close. Poole has put all it's eggs in one basket. A couple of weeks ago everybody was saying that signing these Poles was a big risk and likely to backfire. Now everybody is acting like we've just signed 2 heat leaders at reserve. Poole has taken a huge risk and it may or may not pay off. If it doesn't pay off, I doubt they'll even make the play offs.
  5. Matt Ford isn't writing the rules. Get a grip.
  6. The only thing that would be considered cheating or unfair would be if Buster decided to take action against Poole. THAT would be the only injustice. The rules are written and agreed to by all clubs. You cannot start changing the rules because Poole made a good fist of them. Matt isn't even using loopholes! The clubs agreed on how averages need to be calculated and Matt Ford responded by investing the hours and working out the riders that are on the very best value averages. If anything it shows how lazy some other promoters are not to do the very same thing. If Poole hadn't have signed Wornya or Szczepaniak I'd doubt anybody else would even have considered them. Getting the most out of the rules is one of the most important parts of a sport. Understanding the rules and working out how to maximise your potential within them is almost as important as the racing that goes down on the track. It's impossible to think through every scenario when putting the rules together. The rules are put together on general consensus and then it is down to the teams to go away and make the rules work for them. Some promoters like Matt Ford appreciate this and get to work, whereas other promoters like Buster seem to have this "that'll save us a few quid, job done" attitude.
  7. Even Gavan will agree that Brady is the better rider.
  8. Disagree with that one Steve. I don't think British riders should be gifted top flight places. It doesn't teach them anything, it doesn't prepare them for international races and it doesn't put them against enough foreign riders to improve against.
  9. Poole Leicester Belle Vue Somerset Swindon Wolverhampton Rye House Kings Lynn
  10. True, but Darcy was something else. To say he hadn't got there by the time his career was cut short is a little unfair. Darcy only had 1 and a half seasons in the GP series, missing several fixtures in his first series and was only 20 years old too. Darcy had an exceptional feel for the bike and he manoeuvred the bike in ways I've never seen anybody else do. Darcy was busy being a young man. If he hadn't of got injured, and he put his adult head into the game, I really do believe he would have been world champion time and again.
  11. No doubt that Darcy was more talented on a bike than Ivan. If he hadn't had it taken away from him I'm sure he'd have been world champ time and time again.
  12. Brady Kurtz Chris Holder Linus Sundstrom Josh Grajczonek Mateusz Szczepaniak Kacper Woryna James Shanes Wow! That's got to be the team to beat this year. If the Pole's perform as Matt and Middlo hope, and Holder makes a bit of a comeback, we should be near untouchable.
  13. I think I've managed to decipher that nonsense you call English... I think you're trying to say that I lack knowledge? Well clearly I don't, but whatever helps you sleep at night. Ivan had a win at all costs attitude. He believed that the spirit of the rule wasn't important, and that the word of the rule was all that mattered. This is the exact same philosophy that Matt Ford has had for the past decade, and the very same philosophy you try to slate. Oh, and do you know who else has started to adopt that attidue? None other than your good old pal Rosco! (When he's not spending his time trying to plan his next witty dad joke for the TV cameras that is ) Anyway, I'd scrub up on your English if I were you because it's tiring to try and read.
  14. I think it's pretty close, isn't it? Did last year swing it Belle Vue's way?
  15. Can't imagine Bjarne back. Was a massive fan of his during his decade at Poole, but I can't imagine he'd do a great job anymore... saying that, what average is he on?
  16. Oh please, get over yourself. Ivan had a win at all costs mentality, exactly the same as Matt Ford. The only difference is Matt doesn't ride the bike himself!
  17. Umm.... I don't think you're intelligent enough to continue our debate. I have seen good days and bad days. Like I have said a million times, but you choose to ignore, IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT THE WINNING... but it is a damn good part, and without it we wouldn't make enough money for this sport to survive. I've spent years watching every bit of footage available and reading many books. So yes, I did watch as much of Ivan as I could. And let's be honest... he didn't have a shade on Darcy anyway
  18. More like he who dares runs the most successful club in the country. Remember when Kings Lynn dared to bring Chris Holder in? You muppet!
  19. It's particularly annoying when you don't actually read the post you're replying to. Like I said, winning isn't everything, but it's the best part for sure. More importantly, winning is what brings the money in. Without the money you'll have no sport left to enjoy. I've been a supporter of the pirates for 20 years. And the fact that people get great delight in us failing is great! You win some and you lose some. If us losing lights the fire in your belly then we're doing a good job. There is a difference between manipulating the rule book and getting the most out of the rules. Understanding the rules and working out how to use them to your advantage is almost as important as the racing itself. And the very same philosophy that Ivan Mauger lived by.
  20. He who dares wins. We didn't have many options last season.
  21. It's not about winning every match, but you should aim to win every home match. The home match is where you get your customers and where you take your money. The best teams in the league are the ones that can pull off the away win. The home match is about satisfying the home crowd, and although you need the occasional few losses to make the wins that much sweeter, you still need a team that is winning regularly to put the bums on the seats. Honestly I think some of the "die hards" in this sport live in cloud cuckoo land. This is a competitive sport, driven by money. We can't fund the sport on kisses and cuddles and sweet thoughts. Just because you'll turn up come rain or shine, doesn't mean the vast majority will, and whilst the vast majority are paying the bills it's important they are kept happy. So, to my original point, James Shanes is not the top priority and there is nothing wrong with that.
  22. It's a competitive sport you old codger. People don't pay to watch their team lose. A winning team produces a big crowd, not a losing team who rushed to sign a sub 3 pointer because a few old men found him exciting. I'd like to see James in the squad, but he's certainly not top priority and he's been treated exactly how a risky sub 3 pointer with no experience should be treated. Imagine if you'd spent 10 years finessing your trade just for a potential employer to be more interested in the inexperienced apprentice (because he had better banter on the job and that was a bit more interesting), how would you feel? I think you might want to reevaluate your arse and elbow situation as I'd suggest there is a chance you've mixed the two up.
  23. No he shouldn't. It doesn't matter if he was exciting. Putting together a team that will win is first priority.
  24. How on earth has he been treated really poorly? We don't just sign people at random.
  25. There is a space in the rider contract to add a 4th league, so that's very promising!
