The only way the sport can become stronger is to increase attendances. I don't think this will help to increase attendances. Any other perceived strength the sport has gained from this is negligible if there isn't an increase in paying customers.

Poole Pirates Vs Belle Vue Aces 02/08/17

Another Poole slaughtering I expect. Too much class at BV. -
The End Of The Poole Pirates?
BurntFaceMan replied to Knightime's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I wouldn't really call 2nd a big blip. -
Because Britain is the closest thing to home in Europe. I thought that was obvious?... They ride here because it's convenient to. Trust me, if there were a little country just like Australia that was closer to Poland with a sh*tty league just like ours, they'd be living and riding there instead.

Are you joking? Can I hazard a guess that you're one of the many members on here approaching retirement territory? The big picture is incredibly simple to see, and yet you and so many others seem blind to it. Every year less and less people are paying for speedway in Britain. The people who are still paying are predominantly grey haired and won't be around forever. It doesn't take a genius to work out how that scenario ends. That's the bigger picture. Wake up. The wages we pay over here do not compare to the wages they see abroad. We pay them far less money for far riskier work. We should be grateful to have them. Well... doesn't matter anymore because we're chucking the last of them out. And even if that fails to get rid of them completely, next years cost cutting exercises to "rebuild" the sport will surely cull the remaining couple. Getting rid of a rider is one thing, but engineering it so that they cannot find further employment this year is disgraceful.
-
And some of them disagreed. Everyone should be entitled to a safe working environment. And while you might be happy to lose the big guns, I'm afraid the majority are not and that's why the majority are not attending anymore. Unfortunately for you the majority pay the bills. All you've got left to look forward to is higher attendance prices for poorer speedway.

King's Lynn Stars 2017
BurntFaceMan replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I think riders should be entitled to a safe working environment, just like any of us would expect of our employers. -
No they aren't, they're nothing to do with it. We serve up dangerous sh*tty tracks to some of the best riders in the world, and then sack them when they refused to ride it. Not only do we sack them, but we spitefully ensure they cannot ride again in Britain this year. Well I can tell you now, they won't be back, and that will be a far bigger loss to us than to them.
-
An example to who? The other GP boys who don't want to ride over here? We should be grateful to have them at all. This league is dog food.
-
We're really good at getting rid of GP riders over here.

It's hysterical when posters like you claim every poster you don't like or disagree with is the same person Christ alive, there are millions of people out there, the chances of them all being the same person are ridiculous. Just because somebody talks carp or you don't agree with them, doesn't mean they are one multifaceted troll that haunts the speedway forum.
-
Wow... very bad times ahead. I would be surprised if there is more than 1 or 2 GP boys in GB next year.

*Cryptic And I don't think posting nothing but a skull and crossbones out of nowhere could be considered as anything but cryptic. He certainly wants us to wonder.
-
Any suggestions?
-
Lol look at Hans Andersen...
-
Maybe so. But what else could a single skull and crossbones mean?
-
Either that or he's trying to tell us how toxic speedway has become! xD

Looks like Tai might be a Pirate

That's the problem. They are in a vicious cycle of reducing the quality to get a stronger margin. Problem is, when they reduce the quality less people attend. So next season they need to reduce it again. They can only spend their way out of this mess.

Very interesting Is Pireterna looking for new riders??
-
Unfortunately I feel Matt is planning his exit. There is only so long you can go on with everybody around you constantly cutting your profit opportunities.
-
He'll get even less over here

How old are you Sidney? Retirement age dare I say? How exactly are they going to reinvent the league if there are no youngsters coming in to it? What sort of future are they going to have with the grandstands full of 60 somethings? You're not going to attract fresh blood to the sport running it like dinosaurs and paying for it with pensioners. You need to attract youngsters in and that's not going to happen with amateur speedway riders. We live in a world where you can find far more exciting things to watch for free on your computer, so how will a bunch of amateur riders convince youngsters to part with cash? All this long gone are the days drivel is nonsense! Speedway isn't suddenly a bad idea. People aren't suddenly being born uninterested in it. We are just as capable now of hosting bursting grandstands with top speedway stars as we've ever been. The problem is we're still charging top buck for utter crap and not doing anything to introduce newcomers to it. You take a speedway virgin to a meeting and what do they get? £25 pi$$ed down the drain for an evening of successional "racing", track grading and a greasy burger. Why on earth would they ever come back? Speedway needs to be a bigger show. It needs to go beyond just 15 heats of racing. You need to spend money to make money. They need to embrace the internet, embrace social media, embrace youth and they need to put on a bloody good show. And they need to do it fast. What they don't need to do is water it down year on year and pretend everything is rosy.

You're clutching at straws there mate. 3 GP riders is pathetic. There should be a GP rider at every top flight club. Most of the remaining riders you named don't even compete in top flight speedway abroad, and the up and coming ones are certainly not notable and only race here because they aren't good enough to race elsewhere yet. It's this constant pretending that everything is ok that allows this farce to continue.
