Got my copy at Poole this week. Was expecting far more on hearing the rave reviews. Not for me. -

Butter it up Phil, Track was awful and you know it. Very little racing or passing which we do see on other tracks. Travel half way round the world to watch that ? I think not. I think the general veiw is the track did not produce a good meeting. -
Gp Rider Sponsorship
The Know replied to Matt Davis's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Agree with what you say. BSI used to be a good company to deal with but not lately. Could be the reason sponsors have gone. We could be involved this year as timing sponsor and take on a few gp but but not after Sweden. Have given the money to charity and helped one english lad in speedway.Think you will find past sponsors have been taken for granted got less and less for their money and the service has gone done hill since the old bsi days. Still a great series to watch and as you say a good product but beter off leaving it there and not getting to involved commercial. Riders i think are feeling the pinch to, was approached by quite a few for gp and elite but same again really. take you for granted and want to do very little for the money. Plus side you can pick top riders up for very little cash if you want to. -

A good start for the speedway season, Tv was pretty good and commentary also better than what we have had before. Only really down side was the dreadful track, which made racing a no goer really apart from the odd race. Roll on the next gp on a proper track. -

Think it looks ok, AJ silver and odd colours always look bad and the all black of hagon very dull. But people all like differant colours dont they. Suppose the best colour is the one at the front Cost cutting i suppose, or maybe NZ to far to send the ink back Expect Phil will let us know the reason. -

How Do Foreign Riders Afford To Race?
The Know replied to Soul Crew's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Promoters and sponsors and fans all get behind the foreign riders. British lads are left by the wayside. Bit like football really. The reason why ? Who knows I have changed my outlook on it greatly over the last few years. -

practice never has or does mean anything in the gp. quickest never seem up front when the gp starts. Nice to see the differant colours and designs the riders have chosen this year. Holder has down sized the Hagon logos but suppose this is to maximise his income as champ this year. Gollob and Anton along with Neils look nicely laid out . Surprized the golden boy kept his sponsorship but i suppose being the fastest on the planet was enough to outweigh the bad . Looking forward to a cracking meeting and seeing the foot bloke on a 24 point maxi -

Gona have a tough year holding on to the number 1. -
No what i am saying is there are far more dangerous sports around nowadays. yes speedway is dangerous but not an extreme sport. All bike sports use highly tuned engines and they race side by side, some at nearly 200mph. the protection they wear is very similar. And before you say they have no brakes, they do, its the engine. back on topic. how about these. Maybe only run every two weeks. cheaper to go, more will hopefully turn up. drop points limit. build to your pocket. even if your team loses people will come to see the dream team. ala man u. bring back the match race at each meeting. bring back the test matches. all kids under 18 free. all kids under 10 free goodie bags, take them in the pits and on track. like nascar. before meeting, motorcross or trials demo. after meeting disco for older kids. i think speedway needs to be made to feel specil again, make it an event with more going on for all, maybe run in the afternoon on a weekend not a school night ? Poland does. there is a lot that can be tried but those running it and those attending need to change.

I dont think speedway is an extreme sport nowadays. Lets bring back some of the old ways, allow tape touching, bit of aggro at the start and gamesmanship. Speedway is a non contact sport now, lets give a little bit more room for a bit of bumping and such and maybe the odd fight like at cardiff. My veiw is Speedway is a working mans sport but the working man has moved up the ladder now,the sport is in some ways beneth them and always been classed as the poor mans bike sport, pikey to prhase a word. All the factorys and industrys where a large porpotion of fans came from have gone. Get modern music playing by younger dj and involve the kids. Who wants to here tina turner, william tell and the likes played by a 50 year old bloke. All the things wrong are plain to see but most cost money to put right in the short term. No one in speedway has a long term plan or wish to invest.Look at the bsi, they are worried about the lack of new and younger followers as their product is getting less attractive, but they also dont invest there own money and want everything for free, ie transponders and the like. What hope does the UK have. It is now going to be very hard or impossile to turn speedway around as the boat has left the dock and that was in 1990, were now in 2013.Every bussness has to change with the times and bring new things out all the time to keep customers. Speedway hasnt and is now learning a very hard lesson. I really hope it stays around but cant really see it,bit like the old corner shop, was very good but gone now.
