I see Fundin ride twice and i know his career stats very well but am i as qualified to judge him as say a Norbold/Aces69 who see quite a lot of him i would say NO.Witcher's point is he think's stats come into my way of thinking winning races (etc) my point about Rickardsson who i never took to proves that is not the case.

Leigh Adams/Dennis Sigalos/ Graham Warren as examples were all great riders all good anough to be a World Champion there records do not show that though does it? Yes or No.?

Do i judge Mauger on his stats and six titles no I don't, do i rate Rickardsson on his six titles again no as i said he was not a rider i took to yet his record suggests otherwise.

No i judged him Ivan more on my memory of watching him ride as a example i was not a fan of Rickardsson.He would not be in my top three riders of all time but he should be judges better than me think so but i judge riders on what my memory tells me.

If you see a rider regularly surely that puts you in a stronger position to comment.

My opinion of Mauger did not change from averaging 11.74 to when he was doing home meetings only at Exeter in 1984.The same with Eric Boocock he came back in 1983 was unsuccessful but his reputation stayed in tact a class act over a long period of time think about it.??

Of course not even in his fourties when he averaged 8 plus to 9 points a meeting he was still a good rider averages don't come into it also you comment on riders you did not see live your knowledge is from the 90s onwards.

I think that day Steve the other Eastie riders scored only five points between them.? Gordon was very good at White city was his trait Steve? forcing his way through on the white line.? My perception of Gordon was he was not that great at Sheffield,Hyde Rd,Halifax,Exeter, the real fast tracks yet he got better there with age.

Gordon was one of the naturally fittest speedway riders that i ever see so strong and he was awesome at the Abbey.I really believed he would ride for us at some stage maybe in 1980/ 82 ??? we got Autrey( great rider) Bastable but it never materialised.At Eastie he was awesome i would say ONLY Kelly could rival him at Arlington bearing in mind Preston,Schwartz,Woods, Dugard were all good homers.

Did averages ever come into your way of thinking Steve? i can't quite get my head around that part of the discussion.Hans for example from 1977 he was a good rider until he broke his hoodoo to win his first title then he was a outstanding rider did averages influence that decision i think not He was .the best of his generation mainly because of his longevity, also i felt in yesteryear a lot of the teams had three heat leaders Ex)( Belle Vue Collins,SjostenPusey. Ipswich Louis, Sanders,Davey Kings Lynn Betts, Lee, Turner, so that high standard of rider showed just how good some of the number one's were.

My experience Witcher i never really went on averages and reputation more on what i felt individually.Me and you have differed on this subject endlessly but i know your points are good and they could well be right.My take on things was that in yesteryear you really looked forward to a classy no 1 being in opposition often you might only see him once a year and maybe another individual meeting if you are lucky.Steve Roberts see Nielsen in his prime everyweek i did 84/87 so he knows more about Hans than me or anyone at Oxford.I don't disagree with you Witcher also your input on Ermolenko ( like Steve you know Sam's career) is interesting you see him for a long period and you are really qualified to comment.

Anything is nearly as good as we have it now ?. i expect more our Country is capable of so much more and prospering/ or failing by our own mistakes.

I would of had Lidsey in the top five as he will be decent at home and Berge/ Auty at reserve all year.Wells i believe is the weak link and even at reserve i believe Auty is better than Wells at the NSS.Therefore i believe they could of won all there home matches and build from there don't see the fascination in Wells not exciting to watch and for me Wolves is his home( granted he is good there).

Borje Klingberg was a huge disappointment for me, had a good pedigree just didnt happen for him.At Swindon Sumner Mcknight who had good aquipment struggled terribly.

Last year there was carnage with restarts, sometimes 3/7 restarts a meeting.As long as you dont touch the tapes anything goes then it is up to the referee to get the tapes up quickly.

Maybe you will find out your full team on press day madness.

My wish for 2019 is for the racing to be enjoyable for every fan and for the night to be over by 9.30 minimum.No restarts up with the tapes and if the rider guesses right good luck to him keeping the meeting rolling.
