  1. He was on mega money in the States and his demands over here were unrealistic for any club.Penhall i can remember he was earmarked for Halifax first but that stalled for some reason McCormick was a shrewd bloke at Cradley. As for Bast we will never know what he could of achieved over here but Mike seemed happy with his career and you have to say he was a class rider Penhall also held him in high esteem.
  2. I was excited to see Penhall/ Bast ride they both found it difficult but i always believed both would of practiced at Swindon beforehand after a meeting as both tracks were reasonably similar.Iris and Chunky i believe see Bast at Wimbledon do some laps but i dont know if he did any other track?
  3. You were a regular at White City Steve did you see Bast/ Penhall in 77.??
  4. That side really had a great spirit Schwartz( very underated) was a great team man an awesome team partner he was great on the white line.
  5. Spot on Steve it was such a shame to see Scott at that level he was not the 1978/79 version.
  6. I was there to i remember the USA giving Scott Autrey a ride and surprising Preben Eriksen was picked above Knudsen i had forgotten that.
  7. It hasnt been prepared properly for a very long time.Is the racing good with or without the holes on the first bend??? they are that big they could end up burying you there in the future.
  8. Before you even contemplate knocking our club surely you should be worrying about your own club's track. Now it has to be near on the worst track in the Premiership and going back to the Hartwell trophy/ Blue Riband days in the 70s/80s the track then was excellent.
  9. The weather has been dismal in Swindon today, tomorrow's forecast is bad again so not all to do with the Cook situation.I hate seeing meeting's called off but this is the right call do supporters want to see follow the leader in freezing conditions i think not.One thing it does show is what a farce of a Premiership fixture list we have now we now dont have a home meeting until the 28th.Fans who get out of the habit of going to speedway find other thing's to do and sometimes they are hard to entice back.I don't know what other Robins fans want but I want at least three home meeting's a month the league's structure has to change soon surely.
  10. Batchelor has done a very good job for Rossiter and the Robins over the years and he actually is riding pretty consistently. He actually could still do even better he certainly has the ability he won't be going anywhere any time soon.
  11. He might change his mind again Les and go and support Wolverhampton .Over the years Les when Swindon had poor teams did you ever think about changing teams ???? a big NO what about the Oxford Cheetahs!!!!
  12. The Premier league is not a cakewalk for a rider to clean up, it is just that Cook is so good at that level. You are right he should be in the higher league and hopefully soon he will get fixed up i look forward to watching Craig ride tomorrow.
  13. If the meeting is on it is a home win for me,by about 10/12 points it could be even more if Robert is not back to his best. Our reserves need to tuck in for a few points and it will be interesting to see if Palm Toft is as good on the new track as he is on the old one.
  14. Unless you are blind Swindon threw quite a few points away at the starts.
  15. I believe the reserves have rode better than the points suggest often on the pace and not far away. This Thursday will tell us quite a bit as i believe Andersen of King's Lynn is the weakest other reserve in the league and our boys need to be beating him.As you say who comes in ? and even If the rules allowed a Brennan type to ride we all know it will never happen i will continue to support Zach and James.
  16. Was Hume to high??? i do like Stoneman though a real racer.Great that Adam has signed he can be a prem no 1 now really is improving at Swindon and can still improve again.
  17. Overall City the racing has improved , alot of dirt on the start line have you been to Kent this year ? if so how has young Rowe done.?
  18. Not a great night the referee had a nightmare for me and hardly kept the show rolling his decision on the awarded race was nothing short of a disgrace.Peterborough deserved a point and did well to hang on in there and well done to Charles Wright he was immense tonight.Swindon looked vulnerable tonight and need to raise there game for Thursday night a win is a win though and we move on to the next match.
  19. A great story that Norbold i bet you would not sell it for 1000 pounds,i have a prized Peter Craven autograph that my uncle got signed in pencil.Speedway autographs and pictures have always been a passion of mine and it has got me hooked on memorabilia and the history of our great sport.
  20. Hi Norbold i will get the Tom Farndon book how do you get it Amazon maybe??.The first Tom Farndon article i really took note of was in a John Chaplin book can't remember the name Ole was on the front of it.A terrific book and ever since then have took a huge interest in his career i sometimes feel Tom gets forgotten as he never got a chance to prove his greatness.I did see Norbold there is a brilliant autograph book on EBay with Tom's signature in it 30 pounds onwards and i believe it will go for quite a bit i would certainly love it.
  21. Hope Hume gets a chance and stays injury free as he is an ecxiting rider to watch.
  22. On the team front i hope the season turns around for the Birmingham fans but i must say the side looks woefully weak and unbalanced. Also at the start of the season i was amazed that both Bacon/ Hume were not included maybe Tom wanted to ride at Peterborough maybe Danyon's injury record were the reasons.??
