  1. We can name at least 8 riders over the last seven years that you have got wrong even changing riders and still getting it wrong.
  2. Maybe poor is harsh but i was pretty confident this Poole side would not win it out of the four teams left.Even with Covatti at reserve and R/R for Worrall for me you would of still come up short the main reason is that i believe Kurtz / Holder would do better at a different home track.
  3. I thought that was a no brainer Ray for us Swindon ( ie) because i felt Poole were the weakest team left i think Poole underestimated Ipswich and presumed they could pick up two nice pay days.
  4. A great post with merit Lee i would say in his peak years was better in 1980/ 83 Carter in 81/82 two a piece as i dont count the other years both were declining because of differing reasons.Carter like yourself i saw him win all his BLRC title's and he was awesome at times he also had a decent British final record like (Lee).1983 does it for me though because Carter was very sharp that year and Lee slowly improved as the year rolled on.Lee had the measure of Nielsen that year and beat Carter/ Gundersen 4.0 in the golden helmet which took some doing.
  5. Kelly/ Ron Preston were both very good around Arlington also Kelly was a great team rider and he proved that at Sheffield/ Belle Vue.Can you remember when Kelly slipped through against Hans at Gothenburg in 1984.??
  6. Kelly a real star a great rider a great man, what i remember most about him is how polite and friendly he was with the fans.RIP.
  7. Was it a wasted talent in your opinion Steve? Mike/Andy as a team had some serious knowledge on the mechanical side.As a rider aged 16 he looked so composed and for a lightweight had a great balance Mike seems happy with his career so that has to be the most important thing.
  8. Cant think of many people wanting to buy it to be honest and buy what? also the track should be dug up and relaid which is not going to be a cheap exercise.Poole for me since Darcy went on loan have made loads of mistakes team wise and you have to question that side of thing's.
  9. I would say Chunky alot of Michael's problems were that he liked to turn up one hundred per cent happy with his aquipment this was not always the case hence the no shows at numerous meeting's.When looking back he still had a great career crammed alot into seven years 1976/83 most riders would of been proud of it world champion, placed twice and a fourth place as well in world finals also a world Longtrack champion.
  10. Carter 1981/83 was riding at a very high level and who knows if he had prevailed in 1982.!!!
  11. 1./ Craven, 2/ Lee, 3. Collins. 4./ Woffinden 5./ Williams. 6/ Price. 7 / Loram. 8/ Havelock a really interesting debate.
  12. Poole are a poor side end of, living off past glories you mocked me months ago when i said you were the weakest out of the four team's left.Ipswich regrouped stopped there poor run of results and brought in Iversen/ Sarjeant Poole kept with Wells and brought Johansson in tells you everything. It would be best if Ford moves along but what has he got to sell???? the promotional rights and an old tractor can't see anybody else taking over anytime soon.
  13. The 75 final was a dust bowl and PC did suffer more than anyone on that night when it was watered.1983 Lee for me was by far the best rider in the world in the last three month's of the season he murdered Carter 4.0 in the helmet over two legs. He come second in the BLRC after getting a duck egg first time out beat the Professor in a run off for second. He won the Pride of the East slamming Hans again and clocking a mighty fast time in one race.Muller was good very good and he deserved his victory but that track was set up for him he had laps of practice and nine times out of ten would not of beaten Lee on any other track in Europe.
  14. Great points Steve and yes PC was a better team man i did also think of Mike winning the Longtrack title which was one hell of an achievement.Peter i feel was capable of winning a title from 75/ 78'Michael i think 1977/83????
  15. I would have Lee in front of Collins Steve, Peter would of won it in 77 without injury but i believe Lee should of won it in 79/83.
  16. A ten plus win if the track is better than the Belle Vue meeting ?. i fancy a 12 point home win.Looking at this Wolves side it does not scare me with Howarth, Becker, Morris, Thorsell all for me unstrustworthy.
  17. I watched the two meeting's in one go after the European Championship's and it went the way i thought.Harris at Poole was box office a real racer who is a pleasure to watch Sarjeant again in two meeting's put in a shift but for me Heeps has been the rider of the season.Last year for Wolves i felt he was finished at Premiership level but he has worked hard and got his career back on track.I suspect you are secretely having a quiet smile and fair play to Ipswich on there success for me the signing of f Wells tells you everything about Poole some dreadful signing's over the last three years.
  18. Well done to Ippo for winning the tie fully deserved have to say Bomber and James Sarjeant really rode there socks off.Chris often gets unwarranted criticism but by god he is fully committed in every race.If i was Poole i would sign Harris on his false average for next season i have said all season this Poole team was vulnerable and i fancied Ipswich to beat them.Ipswich now can go into the final with every confidence nothing to fear and they will be tough to beat especially at Foxhall.
  19. John could of made it a different era for British speedway Steve , put thing's into motion to have a different vision pay John Berry a salary to be impartial make huge decisions.I would of put my life on it that he would of ruffled a few feathers stood on a few toes but would of made progress and left a reliable successor in place for when he departed. This Country missed a trick and he would of left it in better shape than when he took over a real shame it did not happen.
  20. He was a true gentleman as you say, and what a terrific World Champion and ambassador he could of been if 1986 had of gone his way.Do you think he was good anough to be a world champion??? my view is certainly yes he was.He is in a small group of riders i believe were good anough to be World champion but for whatever reason it never quite happened a few example's, Farndon, Duggan, Huxley, Warren, Sigalos, Adams, Carter, .
  21. That is where i believe the time may have come to just use riders now who want to commit to the UK and then run your club within your means. For me speedway is speedway, even a lower level sort of speedway can be entertaining i have experienced that.Ok you will miss the Doyle, Iversen ( ect) type and yes that is a massive loss and some will again say watering the product down again achieves nothing but for me something has to change.
  22. My take on it Gustix is speedway was in real decline ever since Bruce Penhall retired 1982 and since then our domestic league has nose dived to the level it is at now.But you have to say our domestic speedway has suffered because of the Series over the period ask Rye House fans ( set race nights).
  23. Also Cardiff is a great advert for speedway and long may it continue but does all of British speedway gain financially out of the event??.Was British speedway properly compensated at the time when the WC swapped to the GP series system.!!!!
  24. Yes there are alot of positive's and this meeting is great for speedway but i don't hear two many moans on this thread most of the points raised are valid.
