He has competed at the highest level and done well and for me is easily a top 16 rider. -
The point Iris made about Per Jonsson and your perception of a rider is spot on i am guilty of a bias which is positive towards Lee.As Iris was not totally convinced of Per mainly of his experience seeing live the same for me can be said of Tony Rickardsson.I see plenty of him and his achievements are remarkable yet i never really took to him don't know why because he was a decent chap as well.
-
Can't disagree about any of this Sam and yes Peter was a brilliant rider and none of what i said was meant to be a slur on P.C.Yes i am bias about Lee and most people's opinion's can be blinkerd by there personal experiences.Going back to Peter forget all he achieved for me his biggest accomplishment was that he was such a fine embassador for British speedway. A fine example for younger riders ,Michael on the other hand never quite achieved that accolade.

If you did not see Peter Collins at his best how could you put him ahead of Michael Lee Sam.?? I rated Lee higher but I did see Collins at his best and he has a great case but only at his best after 1977 forget it.

Bickley last year was averaging well below 2 points a meeting at Worky before the last month of the season. He has probably nearly doubled his average at Championship level this year and has made progress -
I know that but eventually it could of happened? he had been there since 1952 and he was happy. And there had been no reference of Peter being destined to move.
-
Ove can't see that at all , Craven had been at Belle Vue since 1952 he was approaching his peak and maybe ? a testimonial would of happened i think it would of done and deservedly so.?
-
Will BBC Birmingham cover the meeting tonight.?
-
I did see Peter Craven had a really good record in the Pride of East when it was at Norwich.I imagine Ove had a marginal head to head record there but there duels would of been worth watching..
-
I have that photo and others Britmet of Ken he was a rider i would of loved to see race.
-
I never knew the White ghost Ken le Bretton won the Silver Helmet in 1950, died in Aussie January 1951 RIP.
-
I think Jack won the Silver Helmet in 1951 and the Scottish MRC in 1949 and 51 i never even knew they had a Silver Helmet then.

I think young Rowe and Palin have done a few laps at Scunny ?? it will be an exciting year for young Palin next year. This track should suit the racers in the field with Perks/ Hume likely to be up there Perks is the worthy favourite. -
Went home regrouped worked hard and the rest is history it took real character that.Would many youngsters with a young family have the chararacter to do that today.?
-
The second division must of been such a competitive league then, going back to those days Jack reached seven world Final's 1950 / 55 all at Wembley then reached his last one with a five year gap 1960 also one at reserve at Malmo.I often think because of Bluey Willkinson/ and Jack's success poor old fellow Aussie Vic Duggan often gets forgotten through no fault of his own.

Thanks for that Norbold i always felt Barry was better at the bigger tracks ie) West Ham ( Stan Stevens beat him !!!!!! ) Hyde Rd, Swindon.
-
Will cause debate and a stir as we would all probably change our list everyday of the week all down to the Individual and i will do my top 5 riders. 1./ Mauger. 2./ Fundin. 3./Nielsen. 4./ Briggs. 5./Rickardsson.
-
He won it in 1951 as well, he has to be in the top 20 greatest riders of all-time.
-
I often wondered how Briggs got around New Cross Norbold, in your memory how was Briggs generally around New Cross.??
-
Actually Ivan was one of few who said Jerzy was a big danger in 1973 when all the talk was about Plech.
-
He had two weeks practice at Norden and the track was set up for him yes he was brilliant on the day and even Carter insinuated that his engine was dodgy. As for unbeatable he looked pretty ordinary in the Ole benefit meeting look he was the favourite for the 1983 final. It was no surprise at all we all wanted to draw Muller in the sweep stakes on the coach there was no surprise at all him winning he deserved it on the day

That era was so tough Iris with the big five about such a shame Peter was not around and Bjorn Knutsson for longer. Also Mirac had that big gap in his career at the highest level what a rider he was.
-
Peter was only 29 so i would imagine he had at least one title left in him he was approaching his peak before is demise.
