  1. Forget championship averages they are totally irrelevent, the difference is Stewart will have four big hitters to carry him certainly at home Pickering would not .I like Pickering and in the side Alun has assembled he would fit nicely but i also like Jordan. Also your side for me has not got anough definite heat winners in it and you are taking it on trust that Musielak, Ellis, Jensen will push above the mid 7 plus mark.
  2. After looking through books and articles it was amazing to discover that Frank Arthur had a huge input on how the sport developed. As a rider he won the first Overseas star riders championship in 1929 and later on was responsible for bringing Max Grosskreutz over and later two other aussie greats in Ray Tauser and Dicky Case.Talk about great riders i dont often hear Arthur mentioned but he should do a real pioneer.
  3. Those three could be the future of Wolves i like all of them more improvement to come. Like ourselves at Swindon Rowe/ Stewart could be part of a longterm strategy and we might have a bit of short term pain with them but longterm we could reap the benefits.
  4. Seems like the club has real vision exciting times i just hope the sport in this country can hang on in there and make sure there is a longterm future for the sport.
  5. A really nice side apart from Proctor and putting to much pressure on Pickering in a top five. This side shows me just how important Batchelor is to our team especially heats 13/15.Also i like our side with Jensen only expected to be a third heat leader last year was such a great year for him he will do well to maintain that .But yes have to say this looks pretty decent but i don't see it winning a league.
  6. Good track though Bruno, i always thought it was a tough test for a visiting rider who maybe only rode there once a year.l can remember once going there in 1980??? against Swindon on a bank holiday it was a 11 oclock start the Grahame/ Collins partnership over that period were superb.
  7. The funny thing is ER i longed to watch it from the starting gate, and when i first did it it seemed a disappointment i much prefer watching from bend 2 just past the burger van.
  8. At Leicester the Thompson twins will hold there own at home really hope they improve as the season goes on.
  9. Wondered that Bagpuss it has to be a visa issue? can Stewart get one to do two leagues because of his U21 cv or winning some sort of Australian title.?
  10. When i first went ER there was a cheap/ Expensive side at Swindon you could not go through the gate to the starting gate side until about heat 9.Those legendary toilets have not changed in all that time minging and at times you need wellies to enter.
  11. He was a Championship number 1 a couple of years back.
  12. We all know you prefer Wells , you wanted him in the engine room of the 2020 Swindon side.!!!!!
  13. A real tragedy aged only 33 he had qualified for the 1963 World championship final as a British reserve and in 1964 had qualified for the British Final.September 1st 1964 it was reported that he did a overslide and hit the fence he died on the 22nd of January in 65.My uncle told me he was very popular and was a bit harum scarum at first but made real progress he married a British girl and had a successful garage business.
  14. The real downside of speedway Norbold when you look back at these terrible events. For me personally Teo at Swindon was before my time but he is still fondly remembered and is laid to rest at a local Swindon graveyard.I suppose Geoff Curtis, Gary Petersen, Tommy Jansson, Vic Harding, Denny Pyeatt were the ones that stick in my mind as i was young then and i suppose it leaves a mark makes you appreciate that life is precious.
  15. 2012 Steve he had thirteen matches for Poole and was then replaced average 3.17. I have seen him guest a few times at Premiership level since and he has shown nothing to suggest he is at that level now.He is good at Owlerton so maybe he could get some confidence at home and take that away.My interest really was comparing other reserves to ours at Swindon who will be Perks/ Rowe.
  16. He still has that Kurtz to prove though hasn't he ? as disappointing as Auty has been in his prem career Kurtz has yet to show he is at that level even at reserve but we will see.
  17. I was doing some memorabilia the other week Norbold, and it struck me that four major talents died between 1935/ 57. Tom Farndon 1935 . Ken le Breton 1951. Ernie Roccio 1952. Alan Hunt 1957 may they all RIP.
  18. You like myself ER must pinch yourself on how the success on the track has panned out over the last decade. For me winning is great but it is not everything it is not my number one priority enjoying the night out is.Last year the racing generally was very good the track is improving week on week with different lines appearing. In Alun / Lee we have a great management team who have raised the bar at the club and last year was the first year for quite a while that i had looked forward to a Thursday racenight.
  19. A really good post and you are pretty spot on with your observation i was was beginning to think Auty had become an awful rider overnight at Owlerton.Your point about Stewart is a good one Pickering, Etheridge also are two others who will compare to Todd.Spin king's point about Todd being an asset and a fan's favourite is a good one and this season it will be interesting to see how all the reserves perform.
  20. Tom was involved in fatal crash with team mate Ron Johnson is that right norbold.??
  21. Team building Wells in a top 5?? ??? you are totally right though you are entitled to your opinion. My only gripe is you never give the team and management the credit they were due when they won the double achieveing something you were convinced they were not capable of..For me every season is a new challenge there will be good/bad over a period but if you had told me that we would of won three title's since 2010 that is something i would never of dreamed possible.
  22. Perks last year rode alot better than his average suggests and all the fans could see the passion and effort that he put in.Also those three i suggest are better options than Wells who you suggested who last year was dreadful and is on the slide.Stewart looks like he can be a fans favourite improve and most fans on the forum have mentioned him as a real good option to most sides.Grachan mentioned this the other week on the thread DC2 that it is like you want Swindon to fail???. You were critical last year moaning about the bottom end of the side yet they won the double and you were one who still never give the team the credit it was due.
