  1. Great rider Scott he was a terrific rider, plough Lane suited him he conquered the County ground which maybe pushed him forward quicker as a rider .How many Americans could conquer the County ground he for me was up there with Ivan there ( maybe better what a compliment) .Ivan , Scott, Phil Crump( Snr) , Leigh Adams , Bob Kilby, Martin Ashby, were terrific at the County ground.
  2. Oops nice place is it 12 /15 miles away from Newcastle? Hope you are well me old MUCKER,xx
  3. Unsung heroes who stick in my memory are Graham Knowler, Dave Brewer, Brendan Shilletto ,Patrick Pawson. Pete Murray.A great venue i wondered if anyone can remember seeing the Americans Scott Autrey, Jeff Sexton, Mike Bast getting in some practice laps at Plough lane..?
  4. It seemed like it had taken a week to get there what a trek, a great day though really friendly people. My last visit was in 1984 when the Diamonds had there year in the BL Eddie Ingels rode.I also went to Newcastle for a weekend what a time that was stayed in Whitley Bay brilliant remember the geordies taking the p… out of our accent.Calling us Southern softees and carrot crunchers , all in good jest though they were really friendly down to earth jovial people.
  5. Have you ever been there Steve…? only visited Brough twice a real tough track to master.
  6. A great post was never a massive fan of the commentary with him / Kelvin. But i respected both immensely as they both loved there speedway. They were both passionate and god they produced great shows i was used to Alan Weeks and the great Dave Lanning.Your Mega point was he was a loving father and was a family man and they have to live with the hurt and it does hurt he was only a little bit younger than me and has made me think about things.
  7. Like Jacques don’t come on the forum anymore , but this news is shocking really makes you think.Never to take things for granted and make the most of our precious time we have with our loved ones.Nigel was a real speedway nut but my main memory of him was his commentary on football with Talksport he was excellent at that .For me his main strength was his sheer enthusiasm for speedway GENIUNE he made speedway exciting like the great Dave Lanning but in a different way. RIP Nigel.
  8. Both great riders loved Betts great rider gutsy, Classy. approachable for the fans he also helped Mike Lee along the road to but did love Simmo at Poole.
  9. If he had of been given the chance would of been approaching his peak Steve tackling the likes of Lee, Penhall, Nielsen , Gundersen, Carter,.For me had a great chance of winning world championships but only my humble view he was a great ambassador of the game to a humble bloke stylish classy rider.
  10. Graham Warren , Dave Jessup ( never rated him) Dennis Sigalos, Billy Sanders, Tommy Jansson he would of certainly won a title.
  11. I would have to say you are spot on , both the Cook brothers have real potential but they are no better than Hume in a top five. They could be ? Kennedy another Aussie gets chances yet he has not shown up to yet he is a championship 1/5 rider.Your point about Kemp is right to he needs to push on for me Hume should of got a Prem spot before Kemp and Rowe and i like Rowe followed him since his mini track days at Swindon.
  12. This side LIsa does not have the feel of last years team and bearing in mind Basso, really give you something different. Both Cook brothers are talented can’t see this side not surviving a change or two.
  13. He will do well Gazc ; people forget last year he came straight in at Poole with no NL safety net place .Lack of meetings no real track time he did really well for me did really well for Sheffield as well always on the pace nice bloke an exciting rider to watch as well a good signing.
  14. Good side will be a threat but don’t see this side staying together for the full campaign.
  15. Mr H i will be going to Cowley on a regular basis give it a go anyway hope things are good with you mate.
  16. Mulford is a talent though.? Was Wiggy always committed to speedway a different level of rider of course. things could change.
  17. Yes actually thought Steve, Malc overachieved at Oxford he was a novice he did well went to White City when ( Kilb took him under his wing) ) was Jones the team manager then Steve at Oxford.? In the second halves Young usually got the bettter of Holloway but over the weeks Malc had overtaken Young,Pope, Evans who were always in the reserve skurries.
  18. Yes totally Steve, Malcolm Holloway who i had followed throughout his career was given his chance. He had never been a world beater at Milton Keynes mainly because he had a few injuries and the top league suited him better even at Mildenhall later on in his career NL never suited Malcolm.Martin was treated shabbily ( Malcolm fitted the averages 3.53 from 1979 a filler really Martin was treated awful. There should of been a place for Martin// Malcolm crash was offered a position at Exeter and the number 8 position never right.Martin signed for Reading won a title and got his bonus that Dave Lanning had set up chuffed to bits for him great rider nice man.
  19. A great rider and it was a pleasure to see him ride everyweek he was often taken for granted.Alonside Bettsy, Willy, and the Boocock brothers he was a terrific servant and rider for a long period of time.He is in the group of terrific Robins riders we have been fortunate to see he is there with Briggs, Crump, Broady, Kilby, Adams, Doyle.
  20. He certainly did Steve but what a nice bloke he was along with Holloway two approachable guys. Both not saints but they were both great with the supporters who both knew who paid there wages they never forgot that.
  21. City you are right Reading got half decent gates in the 80s I went regular and Oxford with Hans/ Wigg, Cox , Dugard ( ect ) were reasonably supported. To comeback in a crap version of our British league would be madness now though they should tread carefully.
  22. Not placed at you Bob not one bit, but god with the trouble the sport has in this Country why would anyone be that bothered about a trivial ruling.? Stupid rules and over complicating speedway has totally ruined our model in the Uk it is totally flawed.
