  1. Before this nightmare began for all of us, i had three wishes for the new season ahead .That was for Robert Lambert to kick on,Jason Crump to have a successful comeback and for Anders Rowe to hold his own in the Premiership.Lambert is a rider i really rate i enjoy watching him ride and i believe he can still make the breakthrough to the GPS and be on the world stage on a regular basis.Looking at the series looking in , there does not seem that much talent coming through that could compete in the series and make the top eight Smektala is the one that i think is in pole position. Can Lambert push on ??? what do people think is he good anough.???.For me at the moment Lambert,Smektala, Drabik,Kubera, Chugunov, and in the future Lidsey are the only riders likely to make the breakthrough be interesting to know what others think.
  2. Why is it a loan Geoff??? funny how they worded it the bloody government should be footing the bill. Why should individuals and businesses be punished through no fault of there own they want people to stay at home but how many people live and work from week to week.
  3. You could well be right greyhoundp there is bound to be some obstacle put in the way.You would like to think fairness would prevail as all the clubs have been stopped running there business through no fault of there own.Onother point would be would maybe some of the riders who are all self employed have some sort of insurance/cover in place to cover there loss of basic earning's.??
  4. You would think because our sport is not overly supported there could of been a case of being able to carry on.Of course the lack of medical cover was the biggest problem .But as speedway is a sport that cannot operate behind closed doors some compensation should be forthcoming to clubs.
  5. I think Matt sometimes you need to get back to reality to be realistic.Today in any sport it is hard to compete the world has changed so much in the last twenty years so many more thing's to do.Yes it would be great if we could get an extra 100/200 a meeting in but believe me alot of clubs would be happy to get the gates we get.
  6. Apart from the NL challenge fixture and youth meeting and maybe one other meeting (i think there was two meeting's in 5 days) the crowds have held up well considering.Often big. gaps between fixtures have hit clubs but as i have said before Swindon compared to most are holding there own.By your comments made about Lee Kilby they show me you have no real idea what he does, he is trying to encourage new family /kids to come but there is no magic wand to get extra people in maybe you have a few earth shattering ideas.
  7. I think the crowds have held up very well considering do you go everyweek Matt??? our crowds compared to most are pretty acceptable. The track last year improved no end the entertainment aspect was pretty good apart from a few duff meeting's ( Belle Vue was one). The club with all the doom and gloom surrounding the invisible new stadium has a new found optimism about it now yes things are hard but you will be one of the FEW people that i have heard knock Lee Kilby.
  8. I would have to differ with that statement Matt, Swindon has come along way since Lee Kilby has been on board.I go to the pits before the meeting and the thing's he has set up with parents/ children is very progressive really heartwarming he is trying. He is approachable he listens and is genuinely interested in to listening to people also maybe you should ask all Brummie fans if Lee did a good job there and that he is not missed.
  9. You need to go on the Isle of Wight video links then maybe you would understand what my point is Matt. How many people would keep the IOW sustainable in this present climate not many i would say.Another point is would Mr Bishop be interested in taking a more prominent role in the future of speedway in the UK maybe not.A strange post from you Matt you odviously don't know anything about the IOW operation or Mr Bishop yet you post negativity with no real substance to your post.
  10. Nothing to do with the crowds Matt if you saw how Barry Bishop promotes and interacts with the fans and youngsters you would understand.Lee Kilby and Barry both understand the fans are important both in my eyes would be a major plus in putting across there ideas to take the speedway in the UK forward in the longterm.
  11. The guy at the Isle of Wight Barry Bishop would be top of my list along with Lee Kilby of Swindon.
  12. In this desperate position that we all find ourselves in, i just hope the government will fairly prop up every business in there hour of need.If they just prop up big business only that would be nothing short of a disgrace fair measures have to be put in place.Virgin have just announced that workers have been imformed to take eight weeks unpaid leave so there is a long tough road ahead for alot of the nation.
  13. The magazine is still going strong and is still great value. My only gripe is can they stop glueing some of the pages and stick to the two staples.?
  14. I remember all of the Hans, Erik, Tommy battles around that period and from 84/88 never missed to many meeting's at Cowley.Butler was a rider who surprised me greatly struggled badly at first but stuck at in and had a steady career.Troy's career reminded so much of Rick Miller Rick was like Troy at first could not buy a point but came through in the end at both ended up reaching World Finals.
  15. Was never a fan racing wise but he was always great with the fans had time for a chat and his record speaks for itself.Hope he has a great retirement and hopefully stays involved in the sport in one way or another. Ricko, Crump, Gollob, Pedersen, Hancock , it would be interesting to see how fans rated Greg in amongst that great lot.
  16. That side and later on with the great Moran brothers,Carr, and Sean the prawn that was a side i loved watching both the Moran brothers partnership was poetry in motion.
  17. That 1974 side was one hell of a side i remember seeing Sheffield at the Abbey in 1973 in a double header with Reading.Wilson, Wyer, Paulson, Haley were all terrific servants great team men. After Cradley 1983, Belle Vue 1972 that Sheffield side would have to rank really high up of the list of great sides.
  18. Only see him ride a couple of times Steve a really good gater and was very fast.He supposingly was nearly unbeatable at the fast Sydney showground only reached one world final in 1971 and retired prematurely to run his own business.
  19. A very able rider and captain i also still have his autograph in my vollection.I remember him beating Briggo at the Abbey in 1971 and Jim Airey scoring an 18 point maximum.
  20. He was and this year is a huge year for him a huge ask to maintain his average and people will compare this year to what they would of expected from Tobi. For me the most important rider is Ellis Perks he has to try and push over the five point mark. And if he does i would imagine he would swap regularly with Jordan Stewart at reserve leaving us not quite as weak in that position as it appears.
  21. Your team looks a very exciting one hyderd and to be honest i am very envious of all you Aces fans for having the opportunity to watch great racing on a great track on a regular basis.Last year when i visited when Swindon were in town the conditions were very difficult but the track held up brilliantly and it was one of the most enjoyable evening's racing i have seen in a longtime.Bewley,Lidsey,Doyle, Batchelor all served up great entertainment and i came away not believing how many different lines there were on that track great stuff indeed.
  22. I actually think Poland results are relevant, that is why for me why would Lidsey/ Bewley ever leave the brilliant NSS as a home venue.Nuturing there talents in the uk is a help but for me gathering more experience in Poland,Sweden,Denmark (etc) is more advantageous in there longterm development.
  23. I often felt Wimborne road affected both Brady and Jack Holder progressing quicker both can push on now as they have two great home tracks to ride on.
  24. I hope Robbo has a great day he was a terrific servant a damn good rider i always got mixed up with Stuart/ Scott.
