  1. Cant remember who the meeting was against it was in 68/69 going with my uncle and then i was hooked. The smell the noise collecting the riders tear/offs and later getting some autographs. After that Speedway has stayed in my life all my youth took up by speedway a lasting memory was seeing Fundin at the Abbey and Briggo beating him.(that made a change😅)
  2. Funny Steve ,as i know on this forum i got slammed for saying for me Gollob was a better rider than Pedersen.I still believe that i thought he underachieved still won a title but he was some rider box office for a long period.Pedersen dont get me wrong hats off to him and he has done brilliantly a great career and even this year he will have his say Gollob for me was special. Anders took PC off not nastily a racing incident the Sheffield race unreal PC taking Mitch and Eric B coming through and picking Tommy Jansson off.
  3. Yes was it in the WTC at Wembley and the ko cup at Hyde Rd? also did PC break his handlebars? Michanek in 73 was on fire.
  4. The Gollob v Nilsen race in the GPS 1999 and the last race at Sheffield in the 1973 England v Sweden test match at Sheffield are my favourite two ever races.
  5. Good point Salty i see him for Scotland, Coatbridge,Glasgow,Edinburgh,Wolves and you are right he was on the slide but remember Hunter , Rumsey, Shields being powerful at NL level for Oxford.
  6. Think so Beefy was so surprised Malc got the call up as it was not long before that he destroyed the flowerbeds at the Abbey.😆
  7. I went in 1977 Beefy to White City Mad Wellie made his debut and scored 0.😧
  8. Great to have your input BOBBATH some of these riders no disrespect to them were no world champions but were vital to speedway. That is what i miss in speedway today proper TEAMS riders you get to identify with and support. At Swindon we had a couple over a long period Keen/ Hitch loved both of them.Briggs,Ashby,Kilby were the stars but Keen/Hitch played a huge part in the season and gave years of enjoyment.
  9. Hackney was my favourite London track, Wimbledon was my favourite Stadium i first went to Hackney in 1976.My first impression of Hackney as a place was god what a dump but the track produced some great racing .It always seemed dark there and the track sunk low but i enjoyed every visit there a great night out before the week end.
  10. Honestly me and another lad who is on the forum Hagonshocker must have went over a period to about five rain/offs at Hyde Rd.We seemed jinxed in 83 it hammered down in Swindon and all the way up to Manchester i was amazed it was on.Can remember Lee after being filled in in his first ride and recovering and beating Nielsen in a run/off Erik winning the meeting.
  11. One of the Carter wins i can remember being wet 1982 i think 83 was in terrible conditions. In 82 can remember being gutted as i thought Autrey was going to represent Poole but Davis took his place and pulled out after 1 ride.
  12. Jackson he had a spell at Halifax and he had a full time season with Wolves but really he was not interested in the BL.He was good anough of course but at Ellesmere he took some beating. As WK said the likes of Collins,Kennett,Lee,Carter,Louis,Crump, (ect) ended up better riders but the old National League the stand out riders for me were J.Owen,Jackson,T.Owen,Wilcock,R.Hunter,G.Hunter,Lawson,Forrester,Etheridge,Woods,W.Brown,Mcdermott,Fiora(ect).
  13. Hyde Rd in the Ivan meeting with six in a race, that was a sight to behold a brilliant spectacle. Also i saw Carter's wins in the BLRC they were special also the wet 1983 BLRC was some meeting.I loved my visits to Hyde Rd Hyde Rd and The Shay what a day out they were i still miss them now.
  14. Would you class Middlo (jnr) a leg trailer.??
  15. The three stylists named Jansson,Simmo,Ashby would all be high on some people's lists Adams also was poetry in motion.
  16. If you were totally honest Steve would you have ever imagined that Hans would of achieved what he did.? If you look back he could of won at least another couple of titles and if he had a long run in the GPS he would of been in his element.
  17. When you think how Hans Nielsen adapted he went through three decades lots of changes in that time.
  18. Would not disagree with that and Chris Morton would not be far behind as well.
  19. Soren Sjosten /Christer Lofquist are two others who come to mind.
  20. Jackson in the NL was my alltime favourite along with Joe Owen the NL then was a very good product what i liked was the mix between vererans (stll alot to offer) and young uns like Thomas,Collins,Lee,Carter (ect).
  21. I only see him WK for Crewe in the Crumpy days for a few years Crewe had some decent riders Crump,Jackson,Millen,Flood,Evans,Morton.(ect)
  22. Spot on about the last two i even think the late Martin Hewlett trailed a bit he really excelled in his first full time BL season always remember Martin in his Artdeans sponsored leathers.
  23. I wouldnt for its time looks exciting the track looks decent a good crowd pretty hypothetical to be honest you cant compare eras's.
  24. I have just completed my memorabilia of these four riders i saw all of them race so know the jist of there careers Watkin i only see race once though. Can any of you folk give me any more information on these four riders Vandenberg is of real interest.
  25. If it is the picture i am thinking of Steve it was in a brilliant John Chaplin book.I also have another brilliant picture of Farndon on the outside of Dicky Case this picture is iconic the same as that Brilliant action photo of Peter Craven.
