It should be a very interesting meeting this one, Poole look to have an attractive side with a few who will improve as the season goes on.Danyon Hume who i think will hold his own and certainly entertain any news on him getting a NL club.?Average more and likely to high but it would be beneficial to Poole if he had more rides to get his race fitness and sharpness up.

Be very interesting to see how Jason goes tonight? he certainly will improve meeting to meeting in both leagues.Young Rowe is the interesting one if he scores ok it could be a 12 point home win otherwise i recon a 16 point home win Wolves look very strong. -

That famous five has to be the most powerful over time of all alltime greats.Mirac often gets forgotten and Bjorn like BORG!,retired far to early a special time for speedway then Ivan/Ole came along.

Really like both Mcgurk,s both talented hope both have a nice career in speedway .Sam really impressed me a couple of seasons ago at Swindon. -
My point is 1969/70 Ove that Ove was never winning more world titles then.I saw Ove in 1970 he was well past his best maybe Craven would of been to but he was not given the opportunity to show us that unfortunately.
-
I do think though Peter before his untimely death at 29 was nearing his peak Ove by 1969/70 was finishing .Peter in 1970,still would of been only 36 years old .

Why did Cowley get changed Steve? was that down to Jones/ Dunton/ Dugard ? or the Control board.
-
Hi WK hope you are well one of my biggest regrets is not getting to see Peter or Bjorn ride.My interest started in 68/69 both superb riders and in my humble opinion Peter is still England’s greatest ever rider.
-
Thanks Norbold looking back Ove was pretty dominant over Barry but if Barry had of won it in 72 five a piece which in hindsight would of been very harsh on Ove so no rose tinted glasses there !, There rivalry in a way is similar to the Hans / Erik one where really Hans was the better rider but Erik had his number in certain events all four great riders Ronnie Moore is the interesting one if his career was different along with Bjorn who knows all for debate I suppose.

Was doing some research on the head to head record of Peter Craven and Ove Fundin (ie ) the golden helmet (ect) .Unfortunately never got to see Peter wondered if some of the older brigade on the forum have any special memories of there battles .Compared to most Peter fared very well against the great Ove ( and being a huge Briggo fan it does touch a nerve )great man though and a great rider Ove.

From what i can remember his man management skills with the riders was his greatest asset. He reminded me of a John Berry outspoken at times but cared greatly about the sport RIP Jon.
-
The same for me prodons he was a terrific world class rider but for for me i was never a fan respected him of course. Those couple of years with Lee at Lynn often Michael ( who was branded by some as being unprofessional often bailed him out him out lending him stuff.)
-
This thread has really shown me that this forum has changed probably for the better. Wilky was a guy from 1968/9 onwards anyone could relate to his wife Jean she was a mega hero .She deserves mentioning supported him ( you do that if you love someone) from his Crash heart warming really loved him .

I think this is a great move for Tom he can progress as a rider and come out of his comfort zone at Eastbourne which is a real homer track. This also applies to young Palin he too has moved elsewhere to progress fair play to both of them for that. -
So sad to hear the news of the passing of Jean Wilkinson a devoted wife of the much loved Alan.Life is so unfair and cruel at times and now Jean is back reunited with Alan god bless both of them.
-
Great rider Geoff he reached a British Final in the real tough days,
-
I think that might of made him the rider he was Steve ? , like Lee he had flaws but god he was a talent. For me up there with Lee, Gollob, Ward as the most talented riders ive seen anyway. Also like yourself see loads of Hans he ended up being a great team rider ( like Hans) Kelly was the same awesome with Shawn and a really good team guy great style great rider for me.
-
Totally i like young Rathbone hope he progresses in his career
-
Very disappointed Rathbone has left a strange decision.

You make some great points i first see Kennett in the old Conference always liked him even enjoyed watching him for Swindon.I would say for a youngster now starting out is alot harder than then though.Kemp's riding in Australia really impressed me and his riding at Belle Vue has come on in leaps and bounds was really involved on the pace in the U21s WTC and showed his progression in the British Final. His main strength i believe is his character he really seems like a really level headed lad willing to listen and work hard fingers crossed for him.
