George (Chalky) White reached two World Final's both at Wembley in 1957 and 1959 a real Swindon Legend RIP.
-
I think he had practiced in 1973 and he was going to try a comeback in a one off four team tournament to see how he went. That meeting fell foul to the weather so nothing ever materialised.
-
RiP George you will never be forgotten at Swindon Speedway.
-
My best wishes go to all of Odd's family and friends,RIP.

Good luck Craig for your first GP campaign i for one will be cheering him on. -
The first time i went to Plough Lane i thought wow!!! what a place i was in awe of the stadium you could watch the racing in comfort. The track was always prepared well so the racing was always decent was never a fan of little tracks but i did like Wimbledon.I never tired of going to Wimbledon or Hackney both were a great night out and i can honestly say i didnt see many duff meeting's at either venue.
-
Believe me the Greyhounds are a Sis track decent money coming into the abbey it is a BAGS track they take priority we will see what happen's ☺️
-
Matt don't the Greyhound's run on most Wednesday's at the Abbey? with a 6.28 start.???
-
To be honest Bagpuss i don't agree with all of what he says either, our sport is so frustrating at times .This November we had a big chance to make changes for the better of our sport ALL clubs getting together thrashing thing's out but decisions are taken but never explained to us the speedway public. We should know what all those clubs voted for transparency there reasons is it a big SECRET??? in my lifetime i always thought the sport would plod on but the sport has to be very careful now is there a vision for the future? at the moment i don't see it.
-
Say what you want about Colin Pratt i for one have great respect for the man like Eric Boocock he tells you how it is.
-
All hyphophetical now Bobbath but Olsen looked the best rider on the night but his fall in his first race cost him..Briggs if he had won his second ride might???? have gone on to win it on 14 Pts beaten by Olsen. All ii would of been certain. of was Ivan would not of beaten Briggs//Olsen so easily in a run-off.
-
Great idea it won't happen though Ove, last year going to some meetings for a 7.30 start getting home at some meetings 9.50 or even 10.15 long drawn out affairs forever restarts.
-
Totally agree about Ellis Perks it is criminal that he has been frozen out skanked at Rye House last year these rules need changing.Going back to Bewley he will love Derwent Park being a home venue a big season for him i would love him to make the British Final.
-
With young Bewley and Bickley in the side the Worky fans have alot to look forward to in the season ahead.Bewley he really has impressed me he has a real racing brain and i will be amazed if he does not put 1.5/2 points on his average this year.Bickley it will be tough but he is dedicated has good aquipment has a great team(dad) etc) and he will be fine for me the main thing for Kyle is to enjoy his racing the rest will follow.I hope this trend will follow now in the Championship young Brits getting a prolonged run at this level it was great last year to see the likes of Hume, Mountain, Bowtell, Wood really make progress as a supporter i really like to see young riders make it up the ladder.
-
The same Bob I hope Kyle does well we have Kyle, Brennan,Jenkins, Thomas,Kemp, Edwards Flint, Mcgurt, etc) to look forward to fingers crossed eh.!!!!!
-
I think Klindt Lindgren and Proctor away from home are risky , , Jorgensen i really like really gutsy a nice bloke and a hell of a racer he could put a point plus on his average you need to be good at home i think.
-
Totally right i don't disagree Ove not one bit, even Ivan rolled the tapes and he is the best gater i ever saw along with Kilby.Today Ove the rule is a joke a rider guesses right gets pulled back he hits the tapes gets excluded not right for him or the public..Some refs are not letting the tapes go delays galore clutche's ready to burn, i,think if you don't break them and get the tapes up take a risk over a season thing's even there self out.
-
I think three are three pretty huge risks in that side only time will tell.
-
I actually think Ove the old rule was better ok riders did take a chance roll the tapes and if they went through the tapes they got excluded. Now it is a double whammy you touch them you are out leaving the public to get ripped off for me break them you are excluded if not let it go often if you take chances you will be punished in the long run .

Plech there has to be an arguement that he was a better speedway rider than Muller even though we all know Muller was a class act.Did Plech get the same amount of behind the scenes practice laps as Muller did in 83??I can always remember Ivan saying that Jerzy had as much of a chance of winning in 73 as Zenon Jerzy did get away with some terrible rollers that day though.
-
If Zenon had of had a real good run of BL action everyear there seemed to be uncertainty with the Poles he could of been a WC no doubt about that.I did see Zenon ride a few times and he was exciting a real entertainer my favourite ever Pole after Gollob.
-
The reasoning behind that was that Lee was certainly one of the best if not the best rider of the 79 season. Also he beat Mauger and sat on 8 pts at the interval then ran a last against Jessup,Moran,Olsen then finally winning his last ride.In a way similar to his 83 Norden effort ran a last in one race as for Plech his best chance for me was in 1973.
-
Was Mauger lucky in the 1972 World Final.? but unlucky in the 1973 year ? a hard one really still hard to believe he let that Final slip away.I felt 1979 was a year he was quite fortunate to win it looking back Lee could of won the final that year.1972 was a terrible year for Briggs that crash finished his career really as a real championship contender even though he still rode at a high level.I still believe he could of won that Final that moment was probably my worst moment in speedway did Briggo ever make up with Bernie.? who knows.
-
Maybe you are right norbold even today winning is everything for me it is all about being entertained the winning aspect means nothing to me.In yesteryear you often had riders who were at clubs for a number of years and the fans could relate to those riders. As examples Eric Boocock,Arnie Haley,Reg Wilson, Mike Broadbanks, Pete Smith, Nigel Boocock Terry Betts ,wouldn't it be great if that was happening in British speedway today instead of riders changing clubs every year.
-
My theory Gater is great riders would of adapted to any era Mauger was 20 years ahead of his time in my view.Immaculate aquipment a top of the range van when he turned up for a meeting he was 100 per cent focused on doing his best he took speedway away from the memory of riders turning up only having one bike strapped on the back of there car.
