I bought one years ago and Wally Noaks was one of them going back to the late 70s early 80s.I remember buying a few Australian Championship cassettes and a New Zealand Championship meeting i think when Briggo made a WC comeback at the age of 49.

What are the vibes about Danyon he has been training hard should be a big year for him what do you expect.?At Ipswich he should kick on at home very good last year was such a waste because he was going great guns can see him being in the top 10 NL averages this year fingers crossed another promising down to earth Brit.

Be interesting to see what the Poole fan says about Fricke being in front of Kurtz,Morris,Holder Doyle and Fricke would make sense. -
Great post from a true honest Poole fan.

Cant remember the last time the track was prepared brilliantly at the Abbey, Nick Morris for me is the one rider who has entertained us the most at the Abbey in the last few years. He is a racer and has come from the back alot, for me the second bend at the Abbey is very hairy even the brilliant Darcy got sucked into that air fence there. So you are right Coombdog we have seen quite alot of average racing in recent years with the isolated good race chucked in to, hope it is better this year.Dont know what you think it would be great if the young Anders Rowe could get some laps in before the meeting and in the interval as well as that would be beneficial for him

Swindon after Ashby, Kilb,Keen did quite well with young British local riders the second halves are greatly missed in my opinion.Holloway,Rosco,Hewlett(,Bless him), Smart brothers,Chessell's, all turned out good the grounding in second halves for me was very tough brutal at times but really brought riders on some often novices.
-
Remember Kevin Pope very well he was a main rival to Malc Holloway along with Kevin Young,Richard Evans in the Junior jaunt races. Before that in the early 70s i can remember Billy Wall, Bobo Valentine, Martin Hitch all being regular second halfers going back to Wellie I never in my wildest dreams believed he would of had the career he did as you mentioned SNR Hawkins turned out good as well.
-
Dave Patten rode second halves at Swindon in 1975 with the likes of Melvin Soffe,Paul Tapp, Kevin Hawkins, Glyn Facey, Gary Spencer Barry Dukey Duke( did a few in 75) Dave rode 1 meeting for the Robins.

The BLRC at Belle Vue took some beating even the very wet 1983 renewal was brilliant and seeing Carter around there at his best was a treat. The Ivan Mauger meeting also was a great event i think there was six in a race in that meeting Nielsen and remember Cookie Cook being very quick.I never in my lifetime thought that that track would have a rival but today's Belle Vue certainly is as Aces 51 said great that non gaters can go there i.e.) Auty ( can't gate for toffee) and have a real go.

The Abbey through out the 60s,70, 80, was a great racetrack when prepared but now it is half the track.Since having the second bend altered it has changed but it is still a fast track and when they change the size it will take some getting used to.In Yesteryear that is what made the BL a great league differing tracks different challenges you had as (ex) Hyde Rd, Swindon, King's Lynn,Sheffield,Halifax,Hackney,Leicester,Exeter,Cradley the old Monmore green all different in there own unique way we have not got that now.
-
I got the 2017 ELRC DVD for Christmas god there was some great racing in that meeting and by all accounts there was even better meetings than that through out the season. The track is built along the lines of Torun/ Hyde Rd a great shape just a shame about not being able to have bigger crowds as to have that track hosting GPS would of been awesome.
-
To big a strange comment ? this track is in the top four tracks in the World now and we should be proud of it.As a supporter i loved Hyde Rd in a way like the Abbey at Swindon a bit shabby and tired but the track was awesome to have another track to rival Hyde Rd is awesome great for British speedway.

I don't actually agree the Conference league meetings i have seen over the years have been pretty good overall. Now i would say the level is getting higher and higher giving the likes of Kemp/Edwards, Flint there first step on the ladder.

Belle Vue 2018
Sidney the robin replied to WestGorton1884's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The thing is Geoff he tries to come across as the Poole speedway spokesman and that does most of the Poole fans a disservice the Poole fans i have met are all decent chaps. The thing i could never get my head around was that he was once a Swindon fan then changed his mind and changed clubs if Swindon finished bottom every year they will always be my club. -
Condolences to all the all the family i did get to see Bob ride for Newport and Weymouth RIP Bob.

Shows your total lack of respect and certainly any knowledge of speedway, was Joe useless at Mildenall ? was he useless at Workington ? was he useless at Glasgow ? was he useless at Ipswich ? the answer is NO.Your club knows the numbers game better than anyone Newman bombed out Howarth bombed out Starke bombed out all Brits best you stick to selling your Steptoe/Son junk and comment on another sport.!!!! -
There has always been the link between Poole/Dudek since the Darcy meeting at Poole and wouldn't it be great to see him over here.Cant see it happening though to be honest, but if he did fit the UK into his commitments Poole would get him I believe this getting him this year though was total fantasy nonsense.

2018 Premiership Predictions
Sidney the robin replied to Gavan's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Belle Vue for me i like the look of that side, Cook hopefully is fit and well and can have a strong season..Tungate and Bewley to improve there averages and if Fricke can up his game it really is a good top four with Worrall also very capable.Drozdz is the key I think he will be fine at home away will be more difficult even Etheridge can do his job and average three. Poole to make play offs not totally convinced that this team is the Manchester City of British speedway but a certain top four place and i think Swindon and Leicester can also reach the last four.Swindon look it is not a sexy side but i believe we will be hard to beat at home with maybe a few defeats away from home but Ellis and Zach to improve and i believe Zach could be one of the big plusses for Swindon this year.As for the others if there are not any changes King's Lynn look set for bottom spot with loads of pressure on Lambert and Jorgensen. -
Ask the Abbey faithful A ORLOV, Steve,Grachan,Hagonshocker etc)if Leigh was just an inside line rider not in my memory he wasn't.Pinny is right that Crump was the better rider but there was not a huge gulf in class between the two riders.I was not a massive fan of Leigh mainly because he followed Crump (snr) who was an idol of mine but god i so admired Leigh he was so good for a long period i only felt like that after maybe when Darcy had the short spell. At Swindon we have been blessed with some real class acts Briggs,Ashby,Kilby,Crump(Snr) Leigh,Darcy ( horribly cut short) Doyley.
