This is exactly the problem. I recently mentioned on my own club's Facebook page that I felt it would benefit matches in the UK if we adopted the Polish system of two from each team going out to test the track prior to each match. That way, the away riders especially wouldn't be going out cold, but could confer and get their setups right . The response from one of the directors was astonishing. He said "just because the mighty Poland do it, doesn't mean we should..."

You nailed it. Our mentality here that everything we do is best, and that no other country could possibly be better than us is so sadly out of date these days it's embarrassing. If I had the time and the money to be able to head over to Poland every weekend, I would go in a heartbeat. If you compare it to UK speedway, it's light years ahead in every single department.

And if that happened, to enable them to keep Chugunov at no.8, he'd end up with very few rides too. He's much better, at this stage with him returning from that serious an injury, to stay with Rybnik. Let's also not forget that their help got him back on track much earlier than anticipated. A bit of a kick in the teeth to abandon them now.

First round of Italian championship, Saturday 13th April. Scary crash near the end! -
Well, it wasn't to be. After Bachelor broke the track record in heat 1 I couldn't have imagined they'd then be forced to abandon the meeting. Unfortunately I have almost come to expect these situations, having seen it all too often in the UK. Łódź riders simply didn't want to race. Tungate and Andersen, as well as the young reserve who did the track test were adamant it wasn't safe. Today I'm off to Leszno. With great weather forecast, I'm confident we will see great action there ...

Take that back. He appears to have decided to race on regardless of what I read a couple of weeks back.

He's not expected to be fit before July at the earliest.
