  1. Belle Vue had the same problem re Monday nights when top riders would be in Poland on Sunday and Sweden on Tuesday and consequently did not want to race regularly on a Monday.... Thank goodness we will now be racing on Friday or Saturday in the new stadium. If Doyle is so adamant he wants away from Saturday Elite league then it has to be another night or no Doyle
  2. Of all the matches I have seen this year , the Belle Vue v Swindon , 1st leg play off , stood out among all the other meetings. It had everything ... good racing , plenty of passing , incidents , controversial decisions . a large crowd , tenseness and close scoring. Indeed , I do not think I have heard the Belle Vue crowd so vociferous in a long time . One of my mates said " I have never seen a meeting like it !!!! " What was your personal favourite and why ?
  3. Nobody wants to see a track close.....but it looks gloomy. I met a very disillusioned Arena fan at Peterborough last week and he was extremely pessimistic about it all
  4. Peterborough have an excellent track... so as long as they ensure the maximum number of racers rather than riders they will do alright. Obviously they will build a team that they will hope will at least reach the play offs... but plans do not always come off...
  5. Mr Cearms , the owner said at the start that his ambition was to have a team in the top league
  6. Nice to hear something positive, Hope it all goes through
  7. Sounds like two immovable stances here, Racing on Saturday will always make it more difficult to sign a GP rider. Good luck Jason wherever you end up
  8. Feel sorry for Plymouth re Fisher disappearing.. Glasgow clearly favourites now with a probable Glasgow/ Edinburgh final to look forward to
  9. Venturing to Peterborough tomorrow. Expecting a good crowd and as per normal great entertainment re standard of racing..... With Edinbugh as opponents hoping for an epic battle for supremacy......... all to play for on both sides
  10. I thought the promoters in the PL were still arguing about whether to use the Draft system
  11. With Somerset only 8 points up , then Edinburgh are clear favourites. Somerset have a chance but they will need to be on top form with nobody below par
  12. DH has already stated that he runs Speedway on Saturdays and that wili not change
  13. Janowski is young and a world class rider and should be their first sigining
  14. I am sure that if the goggles incident had been the other way round then Poole would have also lodged an appeal , At the end of the day , the rule was broken and has it's consequences. I must admit I did not know that rule existed... If the appeal is upheld it will put Speedway in an embarrassing position of the new score will be 90 - 90 ..... so what do we do now ??????? If Poole had not conceded a 5- 1 in heat 15 then it would not have mattered anyway
  15. There has been a lot of talented young English riders in recent years ... but many of them have fallen by the wayside and not developed into World Class riders as hoped. Often they have languished in the PL too long ... doubling up to increase income and settling for a comfy life style. They need to be kept grounded and strive to get to the top .... which nowadays means riding in Sweden and / or Poland. That in itself need to be timed right ..... in my opinion EL with Europe once you have gained all the experience in the PL with the doubling up. With regards to these riders , Parkinson Blackburn at the age of 15 is amazingly smooth on the bends and has a nice style and looks the best prospect. Many youngsters grapple with the bike on the bends. I hope that they all develop and become World class riders
  16. We reaped the benefits with the Colts in 68 and 69 and winning the triple in the following years. But it all started with the Dent Oliver and his belief in training our own riders commencing in 1967 ... it just took a while to reap the benefits
  17. The best way to increase a crowd is for the present attendees to bring a friend that they think might like it..... and I don't mean pay for them but cajole them into coming.... Personally , I think promoters should target family attendance with a really good permanent deal...... something like £ 20 for PL matches which is for Mum , Dad and the kids... The BSPA claim that we are a family sport .... but where are they ????? .. only small in number... so encourage them....
  18. Congratulations to Poole on winning the title. I went to both legs and it was great to see a huge crowd for Belle Vue's last meeting at the Greyhound track They did the damage in the first leg and it was great to see the Aces fight all the way after the disastrous start on Monday. I was proud of the team's performance and as you can imagine disappointed that we did not get the result that all Ace's fans wanted. Onward and upward , I say. Next year we move in to our new stadium and hopefully the beginnings of a new era. I well remember 1967 when Dent Oliver started the training schools again and we developed a shed full of talented British riders which produced a succession of strong teams based on our own young riders that came from the training schools. I will not object to some deja vu once we start on training schools again..... It won't be instantaneous success but will develop within a few years.
  19. I am not criticisnig Kyle Newman at all but I wonder if he knew that it was breaking the rules not wearing them,,,,,, The clock was ticking and he lined up in time ... just.... It is the referee that got it wrong once he knows goggles weren't worn... On my way to Poole today...... hoping for a good match and the right result for Belle Vue. We may now be considered the underdogs...... but I am sure that Belle Vue will fight all the way.
  20. That was only to point out factually that it was not the first time this ref had made a mistake that cost Belle Vue points ........ that is different from members on this forum going hammer and tongue at each other and trying to get the final word and a so called victory.
  21. one thing for sure ,it is avery attractive fixture. Peterborough rode well last Sunday and Simon Lambert rode better than I have seen for quite a while. A good crowd last Sunday and potentially even bigger on Sunday.
  22. I hope Swindon get a big crowd for the last meeting. It was great yesterday to see such a large crowd at Belle Vue last night at our last meeting.
  23. Let us just get on with the Speedway 2nd leg ... It starts at 1930 tomorrow......all this back biting and sniping between supporters from whichever side is a pain in the posteria . Just on a side note, the same referee excluded a rider in the first heat at Belle Vue, a few years ago. Essentially it cost us the meeting. He then stated after the meeting that he made a mistake and apologised for it... It still cost us the match
