Why Do Speedway Bikes Run on Methanol?
KIRKYLANE replied to IainB's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Slightly off topic but… Belle Vue rode during the Second World War even though industrial methanol could not be used due to the war effort. Wood alcohol was produced for the meetings which was still methanol .. just not produced industrially. -
I always enjoyed the racing at Sheffield and rated the track in the top 3 British tracks. …….used to go 8 or 9 times a season. In recent years the quality of racing has taken a nose dive to the point where I rarely go as I have been so disappointed with the racing. Last night, I watched it on Eurosport and my mother who has watched Speedway since the 60s commented around heat 11 “ there hasn’t been much passing” would love to see Sheffield get back to having a good race track

Since this was the first no restrictions meeting, what was the crowd like compared to previous meetings.

Belle Vue -V- Wolves (Eurosport)
KIRKYLANE replied to Phil The Ace's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Compared with previous seasons the quality of racing at the NSS has taken a dip. Last night for the first part of the meeting the track was grippy everywhere and riders could not catch up distance wherever they were or wherever they rode. Lots of very fast times in a similar fashion to the Friday of the World cUp in 2016. Wolves gave the Aces a dominant display re the art of starting, getting to the first bend in many of the races. There was some good races in the latter part with Charles / Sam Masters heat 15 being the highlight. Hopefully we can get back to a good racing strip by preparing the track differently..as it used to be -

The forecast has plenty of time to change.. Yesterday it said thunderstorms… one forecast today says light rain. No doubt , it will be something different when I look in the morning. If Wolves ride to their ability, it will be close either way -
Good luck for you meetings in 2021

Assuming that the ref had the ability to view the Eurosport footage in heat 1, what a farcical decision to put all 4 back. Nicholls touched the tapes first and Worrall followed on. Fortunately , the non exclusion Of Nicholls did not alter the overall result. -
I still think there is hesitancy which will diminish with time. Covid will still be around after the 19th… but is up to the public to remain vigilant. with the number of double vaccined people getting to high levels the danger is being minimised as opposed to being removed

I have been to Belle Vue each meeting this year. there are a lot of missing faces.... but not necessarily due to lack of interest......there are fans that are very wary at the moment and will pick back up once the restrictions are eased. I expect crowds to pick up after July 19th......
-
Congratulations to Kent... essentially a 3 man team scored 45 points plus 3 bonus points... that does not happen very often. For most of the match riders were having difficulty catching up distance and the racing was processional... 2 or 3 good heats near the end Colts can only now regroup and move on

Expect uk speedway rules to be amended as and when it suits a certain promoter..... nothing changed here then

Lots of fond memories of meetings against Sheffield especially in the Hyde road days.... both teams rode each other’s track well and some great racing.. There was a traditional battle of the roses challenge meetings at the beginning of the season. Hope we see some good racing tonight

Witches v wolves 28th June, TV meeting
KIRKYLANE replied to Badge's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The greyhound track was completely different to Hyde road and the NSS. Small track , with wide tight bends. I have lots of converted dvds with good racing from the early days at the dog track. When John Perrin let stock cars in , then the track became very variable.... all dependant on how much track work had been done In the latter part of the dog track’s days , Colin Meredith was brought in to do the track and we went back to a well prepared track with good racing. There are quite a few British tracks that I rarely go to as they generally speaking are not conducive to giving good quality racing. -
Connor Bailey has A British passport .. his mother is British, father an Aussie Riding in the NL for the Colts , shows he is British and therefore can be a rising star.

When I started watching Belle Vue, it was 13 races for the league match , with 10 races in the second half... 4 with the seniors, 3 junior races and 3 novice races. Start 1900 hrs... all finished by 2100 hrs at the latest... with an interval of 10 mins

£20 may seem a lot.... but compared to a top football match I am sure it is relatively cheap..... I have no idea what the cheapest prices are for Premiership football

Great performance from Jordan...keep up the good work -
Bit of a give away..... this is my 59th season watching Belle Vue. Len is a good promoter.... I remember going to Hackney when the Aces ruled the roost for a few years.... on the microphone he said after introducing the riders “ if Belle Vue get 26 engine failures we might win !!!!! “....0nly 13 heats to a match in those days
