  1. Didn't Monarchs and Tigers both used to run on a friday night? If a change is made in order of pref : Friday Thursday Saturday Wednesday Tue Mon I like it close to or on the weekend, it feels more like an event. Thursday would be OK though.
  2. Hopefully we see a bit better turn out next week (if we are still in the tie). It was the Great Scottish run in Glasgow today and I'm sure that impacted it. Possibly as well if you are short of cash you are thinking I'll go to the semi if we get through. Met Lawson and he seemed a very happy rider... great performance and enjoyed the donuts after heat 13. Speedway in Glasgow has been in decline for a while and it will take time - but it will be done. Thankyou Facennas and all involved,
  3. Well, that was unexpected (by me at least). Turned into a bit of a canter, largely due to Summers, revitalised Lawson, but also points across the board with some good performances from the WHOLE team. Great stuff. Subdued atmosphere after last week but enjoyable. Unfortunately had to leave before the northern juniors which I would like to have seen. Neiminen had a nasty fall and thought it might be collarbone again, but he walked away, thankfully.
  4. Need to drag myself away from MGS5 for this. Will sneak into the stadium and fulton extract the pies. Very much looking forward to it, nice day here. Still wide open. For those thinking if we do this we are favs for the final - not so sure.
  5. For those doing down speedway - I suspect this is how it was seen by the watching public. Get real. I told a friend to watch it (she had never seen speedway) and she loved it. It was a great advert for Speedway and only the likes of us are interested in the goggles.
  6. But then you could look at say, golf. You might replace your ball in the wrong place, causing you no advantage at all or whatever (any minor infraction really) and your card is voided. End of. Speedway is too far the other way imo. Agian, not blaming Newman, still think Poole would have won, but the authorities should look at the biggest meeting of the season, live on SKY, the shop window and they managed to miss a serious safety issue. Imagine Newman had caused an accident or worse, lost an eye? They need to get their act together. And they should be communicating as soon as it becomes clear we, the public, are concerned. Poor. #gogglegate
  7. Good to see another team up there and the league is far from a certainty for our chums in the east, but what a week Cook has had. Legend.
  8. Good result for Glasgow. Far from over. Lawson apparently poor again, but Summers and Morris looking like the two we rely on Well done James Sarjent, #Gateking
  9. wtf has happened at speedway updates - am I being dense? Can't find this meeting
  10. I believe there was some discussion about this lanyard thing earlier and come the race he had it on (that was my understanding anyway). This is why they are needed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Qtu8BiGIVA I like how the fat bloke in the red shirt stays ice cool, chomping his pie.
  11. The idea of having a tiny sky league with three or four teams is crazy. I want a competitive league in whatever sport and would sacrifice getting 'the best in the world' to have that - 100% Seriously, be careful what you wish for because small team football is a no hope shambles even given the numbers following the big guns. I don't think speedway would survive were the majority of teams forced to live of the scraps from the big boys table. I say that as a Glasgow fan as well, and all of a sudden we are one of the rich teams with big attendences. What's the point of hammering impoverished opposition week in week out, as the likes of Rangers did for years? Or a few big teams creaming all the TV cash? Pointless. It's speedway I love.
  12. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse. Newman wasn't a cheat but he was responsible for his ignorance of the rules and should have been excluded. However the referee was either unaware or incompetent. The start marshall is next to useless if he isn't required to know the rules. This needs to be addressed, and that shouldn't be difficult -otherwise you need a track start official. Would we trust some random off the street to start a race - no. I believe that Poole have fairly won in the circumstances. It isn't their fault that the ptb didn't enforce the rules. And they were worthy winners. Well done, great final. Belle Vue did fantastic. All good.
  13. Speedway has IMO necessary rules to stop teams running away with it (look at the example of Scottish Football and Rangers / Celtic). As long as Poole are within these parameters Matt Ford HAS to be an excellent asset to Poole. I'd also say British Speedway. Given the amount of clubs struggling, having these teams generating interest can only be of benefit to speedway as a whole.
  14. exited about this but not carried away. Will be a close run thing - or we'll get pumped at Plymouth.......
  15. Says it all that the Glasgow promoters made a trip to Poole / Ford to look at how things could /should be done. You only have to look at Poole - success, profitability, massive crowds, big names. Surely most clubs would love to be in that position - and for the good of speedway it's needed to bring clubs into the 21st century. I remember football - at all levels - getting a real kick in the right direction once sky became involved and clubs started to provide proper facilities and drag themselves out of the piss on the terraces era. The potential is there all over the place - watch Belle Vue and Glasgow go (for example).
  16. Just finished watching this, managed to avoid the result and watched the repeat. Another Awesome meeting, Incredible effort from Belle Vue and Poole over the two legs. Terrific entertainment, massive crowds, electric atmosphere, great Sky coverage. A total pleasure to watch. The seventies all over again as they say. Just brilliant. Many will moan but this is phenomenal. And Belle Vue have a great side and a fantastic manager with a state of the art stadium next year. ALL GOOD. Love it. Not to speak out of turn, but I'd think heat 15 is a bit of a write off - I don't think Middleditch would have wanted to take any chances after this years events at Falubaz.. Buzzing!
  17. Dorset golf club tweet their best wishes to Poole. There's a joke in there somewhere but I can't quite work it out.
  18. I'd like to put #gogglegate behind me. It's time to move on, accept mistakes have been made and look to the future with renewed optimism etc etc etc. I still think this is an incredibly exciting prospect. Poole the favourites but there will be some great racing with Cook, Holder, Zagar, Newman involved. Hopefully Nigel '5-1 out of the gate' Pearson doesn't have a heart attack and Simon Stead doesn't get too tongue tied.
  19. I don't think some people appreciate quite what a high risk sport Speedway is, tbh. Forget who's to blame - there must be action to stop this ever happening again. Thankfully no one was hurt but I was glad when the race was over, it could have been a disaster for Speedway had something happened and it was found out he'd been allowed to start without eye protection as required by the rules. Live on TV, rider injured because the sport failed to enforce it's own rules. And it was mentioned on here as soon as it happened and BEFORE Nigel and Kelvin had even realised it was illegal. Roll on tomorrow night, though. I have a hunch it might be closer than some think.
  20. Going to miss most of this live tomorrow, so my dilemma is whether to watch the end or wait until the repeat and get the whole shebang - pre match pontificating / bust ups included.
  21. pfffffffffffffft. I don't think Poole took their foot off the gas at all last night. They were not good enough to do so and would have been crazy to try. Their early dominance was down in a large part to Belle Vue's mistakes - the worst being in heat two. Steve Worral had a nightmare. The second half evened it up and Poole are guaranteed a huge crowd ANYWAY on Wednesday. Give Belle Vue the two points and have done with it. The Poole fans on here trying to argue the toss are not doing their team's reputation any favours - but they will probably win over the piece. Middleditch should come out and say that safety is a priority and this has been drummed into his team.
  22. I'm still on about the goggles.... the start marshall may not have to know the rules but they should be given a list of safety items to check. Helmet, goggles, no concealed weapons (lets face it, this was Manchester) and should have to make a specific sign to the ref above that it's all in place. In all honesty, speedway is dangerous enough without this kind of incident. Blame aside just make sure it can't happen again. Still looking forward to Wednesday, it will be a massive event again, and what a week for Speedway UK - huge premier league cup final, then this. I will enjoy it for what it is. Good times.
  23. haha. I'm just glad no one was badly hurt and as a neutral it was great fun. Incident from start to finish, total commitment, loads of overtaking and Craig Cooke looking like the class act he really is. Tremendous entertainment I thought and another massive crowd for speedway.
